I came to this salon out of desperation, I walked blocks to find a decent salon with good ratings, I intended to go to Le blac salon in the same area (around the corner). but they were permanently closed. So I ended up at Sun Nails, although my fellow Yelpers warned me of their bad experiences. My experience was just as bad as the others and look at my photos to support my experience. My tech seemed nervous and was not experienced with using the cuticle scissors or filing. With a Gel manicure the foundation counts, so I knew I was domed the first few minutes, I really debated leaving but I was exhausted from walking the mall earlier. I went today over my lunch hour, arrived at 12:15 wanting a biogel manicure with tips. The first issue was they ran out of glue so spent about ten minutes trying to find it. When they couldn't they decided to build gel tips. Clearly the tech is not skilled at this and ended up building clubbed shaped nails on my remaining 7 fingers. Then tried to drill them into shape during which they ended up breaking off two of the gel extensions for drilling too thin. I then stepped in and said cut them all short and apply colour. Which they did. The shape is terrible with hooks and sharp edges. The gel wasn't filed well so some of my nails still look clubbed. Many of my natural nails through the process were damaged or broke and there was little effort made to make them the same length, so some nails on the same hand are longer than others. I was also cut at the nail bed in several places by the drill. The process was over 2 hours to end up with a Shellac Manicure - and they still charged me 25$. read more

The lowest priced shellac in the downtown core (without a Groupon). The salon is located to the left of the escalators in the basement of the Aura building. They have 2 units as both are pretty small. I was able to walk in without an appointment at noon. After waiting 5 minutes I was seen by a young lady who didn't introduce herself who was polite but didn't speak a lot of English. She didn't wash her hands before starting with my manicure which was concerning. She wiped all the tools with acetone just as I asked if they were clean but the nail file that she used wasn't new. She asked if I wanted a rounded or square shape and I said rounded. What I didn't expect was when she proceeded to cut the sides of my nails to make the nails look rounder. Unfortunately she cut a little too deep and I was reminded for the next 2 days when I felt pain every time I grabbed something. The nails looked great when they were done but I wish she painted a bit closer to the cuticle. Two days later I already had 2 nails (middle and thumb) chipping and the most aggressive thing I didn't was open a box of batteries. I went back and they fixed it for me after a bit of negotiating. Again, my thumb was chipping the next day after getting fixed. I typically find I don't get any chips for at least a week so I was pretty disappointed that I had to go back a second time. The nails have lasted 1.5 weeks so far but due to the initial interactions, I would likely pay a little more for better quality somewhere else. read more

The first time getting UV gel done by Lisa wasn't bad so I went back a second time despite the fact that I had 5 of their nails break easily. One nail completely broke off with a light touch after my second time (a refill) and I had to go back for a repair a few days later. It was the same nail I had asked Lisa to remove and redo since it was already broken yet she proceeded to use the same broken nail and put the gel on top to seal it. The older woman (owner) charged me $6 for the repair of that one nail that was poorly done by her employee and I thought it was unfair considering that I was becoming a regular customer. Their high prices are not worth it for the low level of quality and service they provide. I would only recommend this place if you have lots of money to spend on continuous nail repairs. read more

I just had a Shellac Manicure done by Nina today, and I was pleasantly surprised. This salon is hidden away in the Aura building, and is quite small, as there are only 2 nail stations for manicures, and 2 for pedicures. They do have a larger salon with more chairs in the same building, but a few doors down (which I didn't quite understand). The manicure was great overall, and the technician was very pleasant and attentive. The downside is that it isn't the most 'hygienic' place as they reuse the buffers, nail files, clippers and cuticle instruments. There was a 'sterilizer' in the salon, which wasn't exactly an autoclave, but more of a toaster oven. The technician did use alcohol and cleansers for the instruments though. The nail polish used at this location was an unknown asian brand (ie not OPI, CND or the typical Shellac products), so I will have to see how it holds up. Overall, the service took about 45 mins, and I was pleased with the quality of the Shellac. I mentioned that my manicures typically chip quite quickly, and the technician told me that if it chipped or became damaged in any way, I could come back within 5 days for free repairs. For $25 (and no tax if you pay with cash), it's a pretty good deal! read more

I had a mixed first experience here, and would give this place maybe a 3.5 overall. I came around 4 PM on a Tuesday afternoon and luckily they had no other clients at the time, so I was attended to right away. The girl who did my nails was super super nice, very friendly and easy to talk to, as she spoke fluent English. I'll also say she was pretty patient, because removing my old shellac manicure took a lot of time. This salon has a large selection of colours for shellac, and they are able to do nail designs as well, for an extra $5 charge per nail. The quality of the manicure here is just average, if I have to be honest. I think I would have liked for the polish to come down closer to my cuticles. Although the gap isn't huge, I'd expect higher quality work given that I am paying for it. I also noticed a random dark spot on one of my nails, and also one side of my right thumb nail is now longer than the other, so the shape is off. While my nail technician was super sweet, she started to get a little bit distracted partway through our session, since it was past her shift and her husband started calling her and apparently she had to go pick up her baby. I'm not sure if that had an impact on the quality of her work, but earlier on we had talked about doing some nail designs, and later on she seemed to forget about it completely. I didn't have the heart to ask her for it given her situation, but I was still slightly disappointed given that I had gotten my expectations up and all. I just found the whole thing slightly unprofessional, from a customer's perspective. That being said, she was still super accomodating and tried really hard to do a good job. As we were about to finish and were waiting for my last hand to dry, she noticed that the polish on my right pinky was peeling slightly, and removed it entirely and redid that finger. I was impressed with that, given that she was in a rush to go home, so I did really appreciate that. For a downtown place, their prices are pretty low - shellac is only $25. That's not bad, but considering it's just a plain manicure I was slightly underwhelmed. Just got a pedicure and reflexology (30 minutes foot massage!). It was a real treat after more than a year without a pedi. It was great that my favourite pedicurist, Chen, still works there after the long COVID closure. He's awesome! All the staff at Sun Nails are friendly and professional. The place is clean and they have awesome massaging chairs too! I think the price is pretty good too, $55 for a pedicure and 30 minutes foot massage. I highly recommend this place. :-) read more

I get my nails done regularly - every 3 weeks on average. I look for a good mani/pedi but also need nail art. I typically visit Polish'd Nail Bar or Tips Nail Bar, but this place is very close to where I live and I figure I'd try it since the prices are much lower. 1. customer service and experience - not the strongest point. there is a moderate language barrier so sometimes you have to point at her pricelist. The owner and other techs kept yapping away with each other in Mandarin - I haaate that because it makes me tense not relaxed. nail art prices are per finger, but it seems that the owner will change the price if she perceived an increase in difficulty. 2. no credit card machine (was broken today) and no itemized receipts available for tax purposes 3. sanitation - Im pretty sure she used USED foil papers to wrap my fingers and toes to remove my shellac (it was already wrinkled rather than reflective like a mirror). This place is not the cleanest in that regard. 4. results and value - pretty spectacular. I attached a pic - red and light blue with white and red stripes and blue heart. shellac pedi $40 single colour, uv gel mani with designs on 2 fingers $40 (35+5). I will definitely return as long as they don't chip within at least 1.5weeks. If you are in the area (Marshalls!) and have some time - definitely worth giving it a try! Only $30 for a regular mani + pedi, which I think is the lowest price I've seen in this part of the city (for this type of nail salon)! Ask for Miley! I was lucky enough to have her do my nails the first time I was there and have only asked for her since (which actually might be why my experiences have been so good). She is very meticulous, great attention to detail and super friendly! They also have a stamp card that gets you some type of free add-on after your 5th or 6th visit. It's not a fancy place but I have nothing negative to say about the hygiene/ cleanliness or the selection of colours. I've been a few times now (regular and shellac) and was pleased with how long my nails lasted without chipping. The massage chairs are also great! There was one bottle of polish that seemed a bit old (i.e. thickening/ goopy). At this price point, I would definitely say it is one of the brighter, cleaner nail salons! Note that they operate out of two different "stalls" or "offices" in the P1 level of the Aura building. They are the same management, I believe; I've stopped at either one and they will just escort you to the one that has availability. read more

This place is the absolute worst nail salon in all of Ontario, if I could give negative stars I would. I've gone twice because I thought the first time maybe I just got a really bad tech and it was a fluke, it wasn't. Both times they completely butchered my nails and made me bleed. They also over charged me afterwards by more than $20 of the original price they told me and then also pushed for a tip. I live in aura so the first time I went was out of convenience and it was terrible. They were extremely rude and got my finger to where I started bleeding and continued to work over the cut making it worse. I asked her to stop and told her it hurt and she basically yelled at me and told me it was my fault for moving and grabbed my hands and forcefully put them back on the towel and continued. I told her I wanted to stop and she continued to grab my hands and hold them down. I sat there holding back tears out of embarrassment and I didn't know how to get out of the situation so I waited until they "finished" and paid and left and as I was walking out I could hear them speaking badly about me. They didn't even put a top coat on my nails or clean off the nail polish they got on my fingers, they left it shipped and the polish not even covering my entire nail. The second time my husband booked me an appointment as a surprise for my birthday and had prepaid over the phone with a credit card so I felt awful not going and went anyway. They were again extremely rude and aggressive and made me wait over 20 minutes to start even though the salon was empty and they were just playing on their phones and talking to each other. She didn't give me the colour or shape I asked for or a top coat, snagged my nail again and filed my actual nail so low it was almost none existent and extremely painful and again didn't even cover my entire nails with the polish. After they were done she proceeded to tell me I had to pay an extra $10 for a tip before they let me leave. I left crying again on my birthday feeling awful that my husband now felt awful. This is the first time I've ever walked out of a manicure. The place doesn't look very clean so I asked them if their tools were sterilized prior to using them. They seemed confused by this question, which was my first concern about going ahead with the manicure. The manicurist said she would soak the tools in rubbing alcohol prior to using them, so I agreed to go ahead with it- big mistake. I already had shellac on my nails which they had to take off, but rather than letting the nails soak in acetone, they began picking and filing my nails as if I were picking them off myself. Afterwards, the manicurist pulled out the cuticle cutter. I asked if she was going to soak my hands in warm water before cutting my cuticles. She said that wasn't part of the manicure so I told her not to cut my cuticles because my nails were extremely dried out from the alcohol. Although, my nails still had remnants of my last manicure, it seemed as though she was preparing to put color on already. I asked if she was going to finish taking off the rest of the old polish before putting a new coat on, she said it wouldn't matter once the new polish was on. At this point, I decided that I didnt want to go through with the manicure. I told her that and I was met with instant aggression by the owner who came over and demanded I pay for a full manicure. I told her that all I had done was have the polish removed. My nails weren't filed, cuticles weren't cut, hands not soaked, nor was polish put on, so I asked how she was justifying charging me for a manicure? She responded saying "fine pay $10 for polish removal. Don't ever come back here!" and I happily obliged. In short, if you're looking for a cheap manicure, I would NOT recommend coming here. read more

This is the absolute WORST nail salon I have ever been to ! I got the $55 gel nails, the lady was rude to me the entire time and kept brushing her sleeve against the gel nails while they were drying and proceeded to tell me angrily about 5 times to stop moving even though it was obviously her hitting my hand while doing my other one. I'm not stupid enough to brush my drying fingernails on 5 separate occasions during this manicure and mess up my nails. She then for 30 minutes was cutting me down to her other employees blatantly. I am a shy person and at that point felt so uncomfortable I wanted to just walk out with half done nails. I stayed and she didn't even finish the job. She didn't put a shine coat on after, just did the colour and told me I was done, not wanting to make a scene I didn't say anything. She then proceeded to charge me $75 for that unfinished nail job which on the wall says $55. I was so upset and so stupid that I just wanted to leave so I payed and just took off without even looking at the nails. Not only was it an awful experience and not even finished, the actual nail job is HORRID . They're deformed, uneven, unfinished colour, and all round sloppy . I showed a picture of black stiletto nails that i wanted...and came out with longer than I wanted..rounded...talons...I paid WAY too much money for this service ($57) to come home to clip them and round them off myself. My nails were not filled in all the way to the cuticle so much that I could probably wait a week and have to get them filled already.... I've went there twice in my life time and will never go back again. The first time i had both manicure and pedicure done. I had specially asked the owner before i agreed to do it whether they can do the same color/design as what i had on at the time for my gel nails, the owner had said yes and it was only near the end when they have to apply the color she had said they don't have the same color i wanted and tried to put on other stuff and said it looks better this way. Second time I went it was because my friend had wanted get express manicure done and that was the only place i knew located downtown. I had agreed to do a refill for my pedicure gel nails which was supposed to only cost $25 as advertised on their price list. At the end of the session she had tried to charge me $66!! she started adding all these random charges such as the color is additional to the refill (???) and she claimed she had spent time fixing my cuticles so that costs extra! during the session she had never asked me if i consent to these so-called extra services which by the way were bizarre to be extra in the first place (what kind of pedicure is done with no color for color to be extra on top). I had informed her last time she did not charge me anywhere near this much for both manicure and pedicure and she kept saying that's impossible and started arguing with me. In conclusion, don't go to this place unless you are sure they won't start making up random charges as they go. read more

I`ve been to this place twice. The first time everything went great, I did a shellac manicure and it lasted for 3 weeks! The girl was really friendly and overall quality of the manicure was good (this first experience is actually the reason why I gave it 2 stars instead of 1). However the second time was just a total disaster... The quality of the manicure itself was bad and on top of that the shellac color that I`ve selected was so sheer, that even after 5th(!!!) coat I still was able to see through it. After the manicure was done I said to the owner (couple times) that I`m not happy with the results, but she just completely ignored me.. And today is the 2nd day of the manicure and it completely went off!!! Never going back to this place again. I understand that it may have been the poor quality of the shellac that they`ve used, but unfortunately the quality of their customer service is not any better then the quality of the products they are using. read more
