SUN is a great place to work! The compassionate employees really care about helping others.

My father was taken there after a suicide attempt. For some unfathomable reason St. E Hospitals are teaming with these people. I was assured they had a close relationship, and it's preposterous. It took me probably 10 calls to get access to my father, and after they took away his cell phone, would let me talk to him, even though it was supposedly a seamless link to the 10 billion HIPAA authorizations I had to coordinate my father's care for over 10 years. It was absolutely disheartening. If he had not been 91 years old, I'd have thought cartels had sucked him into some kind of human trafficking scene. It took 10 phone calls just to gather enough information even to TALK to him. St E assured me they had a great interface, BUT THEY DID NOT EVEN HAVE ACCESS TO HIS RECORDS ON MYCHART. NOR TO THE MULTIPLE HIPAA AUTHORIZATIONS GRANTING MY ACCESS. This is evidence of an organization with absolute focus, not on patients, but on their focus on avoiding lawsuits, at their employees' expense. These employees were so terrified of the management they weren't about to do one think to link me up with my father on the day I'd spent 7 hours in St E Fort Thomas' emergency room. St E is outsourcing too much to substandard specialists. Both organizations are going way to cheap with no benefit to patients or the public. read more

DO NOT EVER GO THERE... THEY WILL MAKE YOU FEEL WORSE THAN YOU CAME IN. I was personally in that terrible facility... I was practically left alone and couldn't even go outside if I didn't smoke... the "caretakers" really didn't treat any of us feel like we even matter, like we weren't people. the miscommunication was absolutely terrible and there was so much of it that people legit went nuts on there... the care sucked... they had groups and they never even asked why we were there... they just ignored it... they don't care what medical problems you have... because they won't give you medicine for them. Zero communication with family. Kept me an extra day for no reason. read more

Terrible, I've had family sent to this facility and there employees are rude and do not care about patients at all.

Employees from word of mouth are awful. Don't pull their own weight and half the time don't even show up for work. It's been seen from some employees they'd prefer some patients be drugged up more than listening to them talk about their issues so they don't have to care for them. And some techs need anger management classes due to insisting on meeting outside the premises to fight because they got called out for overstepping boundaries speaking to spouses. So not sure I'd ever want to send a family member here because it seems like all patients get a poor quality of care and you never know if a patient will anger an employee to the point of harm. read more

I have her trying for a year and a half to either receive a jacket and shoes that were not returned to us, when my granddaughter was an inpatient there. I have received the run around from their social services personnel and their upper management staff. a jacket that cost $29 and a pair of Mary Jane boots at the time cost between $59 to $65 were never returned to us. I was told by one social worker that no items went with my granddaughter who was transferred there from Kings Daughters Medical Center. On the day of discharged? I went and picked up my granddaughter and was given a card with a social workers name and have contacted her on numerous times and still no jacket or boots nor was compensated for the items. Have tried for a year and a half and left multiple messages and never received any response. As a registerer nurse of over 30 years I know they are hoping that we just give up and let it go, but, I had to replace the items. Sun Behavioral so a poor excuse of a what is supposed to be a professional staff facility. They do not care about the emotional distress that having your personal items taken by someone there, when you went there due to an crisis. They will not post my statemen without me having to post a star. So pathetic. read more

My 14 year old daughter was admitted here after self harming and running away from home. It was the only place with a bed open. I waited two days and no one reached out to update me on my child. When I called they said we weren't permitted to speak to our child's doctor but they would read any notes he left regarding her treatment. When I asked what he'd written in his notes, all he wrote was "pending discharge Monday". Nothing about medication management, therapy, diagnoses, nothing. This was the same the whole week she was there. Zero communication and I felt strongly that all they cared about was billing our insurance and not helping our child. Never again. read more

I'm only giving 2 stars because a few of the nurses were extremely nice. I went here to try to get into an intensive out patient program. I was in intake for 6 hours, didn't get a tampon like I needed so I bled through my underwear, and wasn't told anything the entire time. 4 people can in after me and we're taken back before with no explanation My main problem is after 5 hours I was told I was being admitted on a hold and could not leave. I had no choice in the matter even though I wasn't a harm to myself or others and was actively looking for help. I was taken up, didn't revive my meds for over 24 hours, had no pillow, and had to deal with weird men on the same ward coming into my room all night because they weren't in their right mind. The next day after hours of telling the staff I needed my meds and that I wanted to talk to a doctor I finally did. This doctor told me I wasn't on a hold, and I never should have been admitted. He also didn't know why I was not given my medication. I told him I have no insurance I would not be paying the $800 since I wasn't allowed to leave even though legally it seems I should have. I wasn't given my meds and I wasn't even given sanitary products. This was the worst experience I've had with a mental health facility. I wasn't feeling too bad when I arrived at SUN, I was looking for help and open to help. When I was locked in the facility I was depressed, suicidal, and scared. I would never recommend this place ever ever ever read more

In regards to the social work assistance at Sun Behavioral Health saying to me as I inquired about my financial situation... She stated, and I'm paraphrasing... why do you care about your credit or finances its just 10,000.00. Let it go on your credit score who cares? I cannot help but think what dire straits I would be in if I had followed her advice. I am barely making it now. Add on another 10 grand??? Good Lord! Fantastic advice for someone who is struggling to stay alive. If a client comes in with fantastic credit and a stable income my advice to your business is to help them keep that! Not to destroy it! Just saying??? Going into debt and destroying someone's credit when they are already feeling like they are bottomed out is not helping the situation. read more

My ex has been transferred here several times from St. E. The last couple times he claimed he really wanted help. He claims all he gets here is a room and group therapy he hates. I called to speak with a counselor once he was admittedly the last time. I've known him for over 40 years. I asked to be able to send them information about his condition. I was asked for a code. I explained I had no code since he was just admitted. I offered proof that would help a psychiatrist at least diagnose him and offer him the help he needs. I was literally hung up on after she hatefully said without a code I could not speak to anyone. He desperately needs psychiatric help and sadly he keeps being sent here. This place is a money drop. They have no empathy or resources. My ex is proof. This is his 4th trip here. He leaves asap every time. They do not care. 4 trips and he laughs unfortunately and says it's basically a hotel. read more

Son went in for detox. Said he was admitted by a doctor although he never saw a doctor. Told us he would receive comfort meds. All they could provide was Tylenol or Motrin. When he had a toothache the first night he couldn't use his sealed unopened orajel. they said the doctor would have to examine him. they don't have dentist and the regular doctor wouldn't be in until sometime the next morning. We were also told he might not be able to sign himself out. Staff was rude and uncaring to both him and myself when I called. Worst detox place he has ever been to. don't waste your time. read more

No stars. Initially went as last ditch effort for mental health care as my G.P. would not raise my M.G. from 100 to 150 on serotonin boost. I saw all the signs of a dysfunctional organization and didn't put it together until weeks of wasted time and my Insurance's money. After a variety of incorrect information, long calls, fouled up pharmacy information, etc., I got to see a doctor for about 20", and only if I would agree to out patient group for 18 sessions, (3) hours each. What could it hurt, other than the gas I was spending as there was no transportation provided to my temporary residence in far east Cincinnati. One of the first comments that was used to blow me off was some political comment by the person that oversees Insurance. Clearly right wing. From what I can see on various websites this place functions as a "cash cow"! They run the cattle through the chute dust and brand them and move to the next herd. The sessions started out o.k., or fair and I truly liked the admitted intern that we received. Most people were there for PTSD, addiction, post inpatient treatment, sexual abuse, or had lost their children to the state. There were one or two there for basic depression or life changing difficulties. Basically the rules were applied when convenient to staff. The snacks provided as part of the service were rarely anything healthy and there were many there with "larger" health issues. The sessions were to be held down to (10) people per group, which the first eight or so were. Most of what you were suppose to be doing was not explained and often another patient would have to pick up the slack and inform someone who wasn't up to date. When intern left we were given a person who does not work in out-patient pulled from her duties with mostly children. There were more than (10) people in sessions multiple times, up to (20) never enough chairs, tables, pens, pencils, etc. All sessions were constantly interrupted by other staff looking for someone for an evaluation, to discuss finances and other varied reasons. The familiar status forms patients had to fill out each session changed mid-way and then back again to original. The new person that was pulled from separate facility said that she would be in place for a full (8) weeks. Then next session she said she would be off on Wed. The bulk of the group didn't know each other, their stories or encouragements which is part of the whole group premise. There was a general dissent and some people just left. They had lumped in every imaginable mental condition/diagnoses into one room and it was beyond disruptive. After (4) sessions with this new person I was starting to warm up and appreciate not only the spot that this therapist was in but her great calm in adapting to her position. The following week when I returned I ran into her in the hall, and she said she was no longer doing our sessions. She was the only person that addressed the levels of education between different doctors, and therapists based on their BA, Masters and Doctorate. So once again we were all divided up and I received the most unprofessional new assigned therapist. She has been their for awhile and I didn't know who she was. My first encounter with this person was she was acting like a hall monitor in a high school. I had brought my own healthy snack and needed a spoon, and once before a another staff member had retrieved a disposable one for me. But all were tied up so I offered to walk over and get. This woman, in a tone only reserved for grade school, admonished me for being in the Cafeteria and for not wearing a name tag or sticker that tells everyone where they should be. If, I had been told I would have worn one. As it was, I went back to the room after getting spoon and observed that no one was wearing a tag. Upon realizing that I did not want this person as my group leader, I went on our break and requested a different person. The one I was thinking of seemed to have a good demeanor and happened to be standing at front desk. I asked about his group and he told me that he only had substance abuse patients in his group. I know for a fact that was not so as I saw the people that entered the room and they were in the initial group that I started with. The icing on the cake was when the this old school woman, passed over person in any positive comments, an elderly new client fresh from a suicide attempt. At the best it was heartless! Then for her final exercise of the day she had us write down a story demonstrating the point of exercise. She took over (20) minutes time in what was a rant about her son and didn't seem to ever come to the point. It was personal and not appropriate at all for a professional. Lastly, she only acknowledged in comments to the people in her group from the beginning. That was it for me and another person. I never went back and no one ever called to ask where I was. read more

If I could rate lower I would. The staff are Rude, they do not provide any information to the family even after the consent is given. The nurses are incompetent and the Doctor refuses to speak to the family of patients while holding them in there for as long as possible. 0/10 read more

I never thought I would have such a horrible experience with the ppl caring for my husband after his mental health crisis but they made this whole thing so much worse. The difference in what they say to patients and their families is alarming as well and the blatant lies they told me was even more alarming. If you have private insurance they will drag your stay out as long as possible, if your on state insurance your good but they won't be professional either way. His 72 hr hold lasted five days and the reasons they gave were ridiculous. If you have someone there please write down everything they tell you and who your speaking with. Read everything you sign, these people are NOT your friends. Don't expect to be able to even leave the psychiatrist a voicemail, they told me they don't do that. They wouldn't even let me speak to someone in charge after calling them out on the outright lies they speak. It's sad how many people know about this yet it's still allowed to happen? It's sad that I have to write this review, I don't write reviews normally but I feel like people should be warned about this place. read more

The place is a joke. All I was trying to do was get a form that has my information on it with their address. Well let me tell you it took 2 1/2 weeks. They will direct your call 3 times, saying they can't do it.. finally I was told to come up to the location and when I get there the only person who is able to help me went to lunch. Even though she told me that she was going 2 hours earlier. So just sitting here waiting for her to get back, so unorganized. Get your evaluation completed somewhere else. Update: 50 minutes later. STILL WAITING FOR THIS, all i need is a damn piece of paper to be printed out of their system. These people are incompetent and need to go work somewhere else. Firstly don't tell me to come up at a certain time and then not be here, or be ready. Your not a doctors office even though you try and act like one read more

Shay at the front reception is a warm, caring staff member that makes parents feel heard. Nurse Teedi always took the time to talk to us and give us an update on our child. I appreciate them so much. My experience with the rest of the staff members was cold, rushed and unwilling to address our concerns. They showed us a lack of empathy. Some staff members denied giving us their name, rushed out of the room and/or ignored us. Dr. Starbranch, never called us to address a treatment plan, perhaps if she did, things would have been different. I believe that as parents, we have the right to speak to Dr. Starbranch. The facility lacks communication that is much needed when it comes to first time parents experiencing treatment for a child. From the time of admission, the staff member, Mr. Peter, did not sit with us to go over the procedures and/or process of treatment. We were given the packet to review on our own, with no explanations. He rushed us out, left us in the lobby alone. Unless communication is improved, I do not recommend this place. read more

The positive: The staff that we had contact with were friendly. The negative: Even though they admitted to never spending any one-on-one time with my son, they disagreed with the diagnosis of his doctor and psychologist who spent months with him and did extensive testing and we were not allowed to even speak to the "doctor" on staff. They completely ignored clear instructions from us about our son's medication, which set us back. They told us that he would be released around dinnertime, but that they would call ahead and let us know the specific time. We called back around 7:00 to check on the status only to be told that he was already released and had been waiting for us to pick him up. Our son came home worse off and it took weeks to get back to where we were before. The conclusion: The staff is nice but does not communicate well with each other. Maybe it's a helpful place for addiction, I don't know, but I would stay far away if you're dealing with mental health issues. read more

this is the worse place to place a loved one. my 72 yr old husband was left without his medication for over 20 hrs. It took 3 phone calls and 10 hrs just to get him the clothing that was left for him. it's run like a detention center. patients outside smoking, and while we were retrieving my husband, one asked us if we were going to cincinnati. THIS IS NOT A WELL RAN FACILITY. I saw one employee with exposed tattoos, wearing knee high biker boots and tacky clothing. I know she was an employee because she let herself into a locked room and she was acknowledged as one. I wouldn't place my dog in here. When we asked to allow a transfer, they didn't want to cooperate. DO NOT PARTICIPATE WITH THEIR PROGRAM. they need to be shut down. After all, don't they have a law suit going on because they killed a patient??? read more

This place did nothing but make me worse. The doctor aka Dr.Vita is backhanded and doesn't seem to care about how you are actually doing. Anytime I talked to Dr.Vita he would be on his phone, interrupted me while I was talking to him, or barely listening. Others would also mention how they had the same experience with him and how much of a jerk he was. Dr.Vita lied and said I was refusing to take my medication but was told they did not carry my medication by a nurse and it had to be ordered. I did not have it for 2 days. Then they put it off on me like I completely refused it. Dr.Vita also did not allow me to have my rescue inhaler. My friend was talking to a tech at one point and he told her I was there voluntarily and no sooner than he did someone changed it in the system to involuntary. I also witnessed a girl have an allergic reaction because the kitchen staff were lazy and ignored her allergy to gluten. They were also very slow at getting her help and had to get approved by the doctor to give her Benadryl which took to much time. Thank goodness she was ok and he throat didn't close all the way. I also witness another girl pass out multiple times on multiple days and no one did anything to help her. Didn't call an ambulance or anything for this poor woman. Watching 2 people almost die was pretty traumatic in itself. Dr.Vita is not good at all and is the one who makes or breaks your stay. Dr.Vita ended up transferring me to a different facility and the doctors there were pretty upset because 1. The doctors at sun made me seem way worse off than I was. When they talked to me they were shocked at how GOOD I was doing and 2. The doctor put me on a medication I should not have been on. The doctor at the other facility said it was for someone who was psychotic and I was nowhere close to being psychotic. Thankfully they only kept me 2 days because I was perfectly fine to go home. Also, they do not check on you like they are supposed to. They halfway check on you. They also did not communicate with my therapist and she had no idea why I was there. They barely even talked to her about what was going on. There was mold in the bread. The nurses were absolutely amazing and if I could give them 5 stars I would. Meredith was by far the best nurses and you can tell she loves her job. The MHTs were ok. One just yells and seems to always be in a bad mood. Megan, Joseph, and Ryan were amazing MHTS and also seemed to love their job. read more

This Review is for the customer service rep that was so rude and totally unprofessional . We have received multiple bills addressed to our business for one of their behavior health patients, whom we do not know. I called in a couple of times to let them know that they are mailing these bills to the wrong person. I called in to let the customer service know as a courtesy that we keep getting bills for this person and I have put them back in the box 3 times with wrong address. The young woman on the phone proceeds to tell me that the billing address was changed in January. I told her this bill date had a February date. She went into a tangent about me committing mail fraud and began to threaten me that if I called back in with another request she would turn me in to the post office and I would be arrested! I asked to speak to a supervisor and she put me on hold. It finally went to a voice mailbox. I know the struggles employers are facing trying to find good help. This person should not be answering the phones for Erlanger Behavior Health or work in any type of customer service job. This is a trend that I'm seeing with customer service as a whole. You get people working from home who feel they are not being managed or watched and they can treat people horribly. Sadly this is bad for the business. read more

RUN! don't walk away from Sun. It's a shame yelp won't allow you to give negative stars. I wouldn't treat a rabid dog as poorly as I was treated. A manufactured "crisis" at intake (coincidentally, I have excellent health insurance) in order to put a 72 hour hold on me (oh but weekends and holidays don't count, so a 72 hour hold was going to turn into 5 days), then manhandled at intake (massive bruising on both arms from the elbows [both completely purple] to the shoulders, a suspected cracked rib in the process), hauled like a sack of potatoes, and dropped on the floor, then dumped into an isolation room for hours with no bathroom facility, ignored pleas to be let out with smirk from the aide monitoring from outside the locked door, and that's just the beginning. The staff hides behind their masks and the desk and with the exception of one or two, cringe from interaction with the patients. RUDE med nurse, who put me off for hours asking for a pain reliever for the aforementioned injuries inflicted on me, and when she finally gave me some low dose ibuprofen (everything they give you is half dose) and I thanked her, she replied with "You're not exactly welcome." WTF?? Completely inappropriate response at any time, but especially in what is supposed to be a therapeutic environment. There was NO counseling, NO treatment, just left to stare at the wall for days. I requested x-rays to rule out fractures, and the staff lied to me that the order had been fulfilled, when the x-rays hadn't even been taken yet. The only "treatment" was chatting with the other inmates, because that's what Sun is - a holding cell posing as a treatment center. I had to ask repeatedly to be released, while other inmates who admitted they were not ready to go home were asked if they wanted out (they didn't have as good insurance as I do). It was apparent they were clearing out beds for the next round of inmates. The food was not only always cold, but not nutritious - very heavy in carbs and processed foods. The ONLY thing that was regularly scheduled were cigarette breaks. Only decaf coffee because "caffeine is an addictive substance", but cigarettes were okey-dokey? This place should have it's license revoked. I admitted myself voluntarily but had to beg to be let out, and was treated like sh*t the entire time. So much for trying to get help. I enjoyed my time here (briefly) and most of the nurses and therapists were very nice and helpful. However a nurse got upset with me for calling her unprofessional for mistreating an older gentleman struggling with alcoholic tremors. I was even polite about it but I said she was being rude. I was almost immediately discharged I think because she was offended that I called her out on her unprofessionalism towards a man in dire need of help. Her name is Nurse Tammy. There was also a man there in charge of helping me with my long term recovery in which he was absolutely useless in helping me, as I did not have access to a computer, otherwise I could have had it done in a day myself. His name is Adam. Upon my abrupt discharge I immediately felt like relapsing. Nurse Tammy said I had "zero comprehension" about my abrupt discharge. It was absolutely humiliating and complete unnecessary simply because I told her the truth about her behavior. I would suggest finding a place that treats their patients with a kinder heart and more help with long term recovery. read more

i told dr.toro that my medicine was fucking with me really bad and instead of giving me someone i asked i think would help me he gave me exactly what i didn't want. they upped my dosage and ever since i got there i felt like none of them would listen to me and they would act like they had stuff to do but a lot of them had enough time to browse through new places they were looking for or were purchasing. theres no respect on their end and they expect you to treat them like royalty. it's like if you have mental illness you are being sent here to be punished they are stupider to help us feel better not make us feel like shit. i've met one dude there apart of the staff that's cool. even the janitors and people who bring down food act like they don't wanna talk to you unless you are complimenting them in some way. it's also weird that if you need a ride to get out of there they make you walk to the bus stop (mind you half of the medicine they give us make us sleepy and don't know what you're doing) but no one we meet here can help us out with a ride to get out because it is "dangerous". this place needs to be shut down asap or hire people that actually wanna hear ur hurt no people that just run past it and only care about their money they are getting. the most healing i got out of this experience was out of this man i met that could palm read and was educated about spirituality and the others i met. none of the staff were for us they were against all of us and talk shit about people as if it's like highschool and text each other about what happened with this patient this day when they act out. this place makes me SICK. you should see the options for bodywash hair soap and tooth paste if no one can bring you any. there's only good looks on the outpatient paperwork bc we be fucked up on our meds there. no one should be disciplined with a shot. read more
