Quick update to my first review. Owner never did anything to remediate all the issues. To summarize: 1. they were hours late from agreed upon time, 2. the jumper had a huge hole he apparently already knew about and still send it, 3. The popcorn machine arrived dirty. You renting a machine you hope arrives clean so I can start making popcorn. Not old grease and kernel left over from a previous party. 4. Hot dog machine was grimy and dirty. The kid who arrived mentioned it should have already been cleaned. He tried cleaning it a bit. I then still had to clean it. Pics attached so you can see (after apparently being cleaned twice). People are going to eat from these machines. Not sure what they are thinking. Apart from them being hours late. I had to spend another hour cleaning and setting things up. Waste of my time. People were waiting for their food and snacks. Never again. Avoid if possible. read more

We found this company on a Facebook Ad. Tom reached out to me almost immediately and answered all of my questions about his Carnival Special! He walked me through exactly what it came with, an exact price. Promptly sent over the contract and had great customer service. We ended up renting 4 canopies, 4 games, cotton candy machine, sno cone machine, and a hot dog cooker. It also came with the tables for the games, and they even brought their own extension cords and splitters. We scheduled to have them set up on Saturday, but asked if they could come a day early to set up. This was amazing, as it made our prep the day of stress free. His crew came and set everything up, showed us how to us the concessions. After the party, they came and packed everything up for us! We didn't even have to clean the concessions, that is included in their price and I am so thankful, I didn't have to do it :). I would say the only hiccup was our deposit was supposed to be $400 and the remaining balance was supposed to be due a week before the event. However, we were charge the full amount instead of the deposit amount. But, mistakes happen and our guests had a blast! His crew was respectful, professional and quick! Be careful what you purchase! My husband purchased a groupon for $90. We live in Whittier, so he called beforehand and asked about the extra charge for our location. We were told that we would only be charged an extra $10. When we finally decided to use our groupon we were quoted $54.00 extra for mileage. We spoke with Tom who denied all knowledge of this prior agreement and would not budge on price. In addition, our groupon was for four hours, but they only had availability for 3 hours. Tom would not even take this into consideration in lowering the mileage surcharge. We feel completely scammed as we would not have purchased this if the total cost was $145. We have decided to trash our groupon and eat the $90 cost. I'm sure the sumo ring is fun, but be prepared that this company does not have good customer service and get all your terms of agreement confirmed in writing beforehand. read more

The jumbo yard games are not JUMBO at all. The yard dice fit in one hand. Connect 4 can sit on a table top. Ladder ball and corn hole were no different than the ones you can buy for your own home use. Know what you are getting. They are advertized as Jumbo games, but they really are not. read more

I decided to rent the sumo suits from Tom and his wife for a 30th birthday party this past weekend. Tom was extremely helpful from the day that I called to place the order until the day after the party when they picked up the suits. We were able to set up the sumo suits and mat in our backyard. We rented the Sumo suits for my daughters graduation party and they were a blast. I took a chance & I prepaid via phone with Tom @ Sumo Mania approx. 2 weeks before our event....(I worry about doing this)... But in my case I got exactly what I was promised. I rate Sumo Mania, to be a professional and easy to work with operation - I would definitely recommend and use them again. *Note: their fuel surcharge is very fair, gas is not cheap and you do have the option of picking up the suits - in my case I chose to pay for the delivery and pick up service, at the end of the day, it saved me time and money. read more

Do not, I repeat, DO NOT trust this man. I work for a non-profit and we paid for the suits months in advance of our huge STEAMtopia event. Two days for the event -- I repeat, TWO DAYS before the event-- he decided to tell us that we had to put it on a grassy place, even though we planned to put it in a place with a lot of mats. I told him that we would look for a place that would meet these new qualifications, and his response was, "I feel uncomfortable so I am pulling out of this." I explained that we had the mats and we had already advertised sumo suits to hundreds of people, but he DID NOT CARE. DO NOT TRUST THIS MAN. Now we have to scramble to find some way to get last minute sumo suits, AND he still hasn't refunded our money. On top of that, he was incredibly rude on the phone and insisted he had told me to put the suits on the glass, which I can swear on everything I hold dear that he had not. My non-profit organization is now in a huge bind. The reviews tell the story. I would bet money that the 5 star reviews are friends of Tom's. Note that most of them have very few friends or reviews. Viewers Beware! Poor customer service, bad attitude, and false advertising regarding their Living Social deal. I first called them to verify if they could drive out to Signal Hill. Tom on the phone said it was fine and I didn't have to pay any extra fees and then to call back when I purchased the deal. I called after I purchased the deal and he told me that I would have pay extra fees for being "out of his servicing area". What?!?! I talked to him some more about dates and he said on multiple occasions he was booked. He said to call back in June. I called back in June and he said he was booked and to call back in August. I called back in August and he said he was booked for the rest of the year and it was my fault for not contacting him ahead of time. OMG!! This must be a joke. Then he told me to call back at first of each month and check availability. I called back at the beginning of October and he told me there is nothing available and to call back in November. I finally called back in November, just this week, and he gave me the runaround about his availability which to add my friend called back and he was available but he quickly changed his story his living social deal. Point is, he is dishonest about his availability and doesn't want you to use the Living Social deal. It's merely a way to get word out about his business. read more

He assured us on the phone that he "got it down!" So we call him on the day of the party and he doesn't have any knowledge of our reservation. After a bunch of argument over the phone he says he is going to try to get it here, possibly late because its booked somewhere else. I'll add more if it ever arrives.. The WORST customer service EVER! I wish I could give this place zero stars, but it doesn't allow me to do so. I made a Yelp account, just so I could complain about this place! I bought a LivingSocial coupon for this place, and made a reservation one month prior to our event at a childcare facility. I was told by the manager Tom that our reservation was set, and received confirmation that he would be arriving on the day of our event. I called again on the morning of our event to make sure that he would be there, but nobody answered the phone. I called multiple times, and got no answer. Tom finally called back about 15 minutes before our event to let us know that he has no record of our reservation. Not only did he not record our reservation, but he was also EXTREMELY RUDE about the situation. Additonally, I asked if we could get a refund, but he was not helpful and shifted blame to LivingSocial, who I have never had a problem with in the past. He then hung up on us in the middle of our conversation!!! I have NEVER experienced such TERRIBLE and RUDE customer service from anybody. We now have 50 very disappoint children on their last day of school party and no apology from Tom. We will NEVER be booking through Sumo Mania again, and I hope that no one will ever have to deal with their rude customer service. read more

We contacted Tom about renting a sumo suit wrestling kit for our big event. I am with a nonprofit organization that works with schools, and we wanted sumo suit wrestling for a summer carnival for the community. Thanks to Tom's friendly customer service, we were able to secure a sumo suit, popcorn machine AND raspado machine for a great price. Everything was delivered when they said it would be, including some extra tables for the raspado machine, and it was also picked-up in the time frame indicated, even though our event was fairly far from their headquarters. Rented tables and chairs from Tom/Sumo for our wedding. He was very friendly over the phone when originally booking. We were told to confirm final numbers at least 30 days prior to the event. Since our count went down we informed Sumo but were then told we could not change our numbers. Delivery was on time for the most part, the driver was a little turned around on the dirt roads which can be expected. We paid for delivery and set-up but had to do the majority of set-up ourselves, only two workers come at a time. Pick-up was on time as well but they forgot a table. On a whim, I thought it would be fun to rent some Sumo suits for a friend's birthday. Tom was so knowledgeable and helpful. He arranged everything, and he and his sweet wife made everything so easy. We showed up at a beautiful park in Costa Mesa, and we were all set up with the mat and 2 suits under the shade of a tree. We had a nice picnic and alternated Sumo matches. I recommend you use another party rental company, but If you decide to rent from this place, make sure to get everything in writing, completely detailing each charge!! I rented the sumo suits and Tom overcharged my credit card $50.00. When I spoke to Tom about the charges, he tried to convince me that the extra charge was for delivery. The owner of this business, Tom, was a food vendor at a fundraiser for a local charity that raises money for kids' music programs. When he didn't make what he considered enough profit he wrote a letter threatening to sue the organization for the amount of his entry fee ($75). He was reminded that this was a charity event, but he didn't care. It makes me sad when I run into people like Tom. My husband and I decided to do something different to celebrate our birthdays. I first discovered Sumo Mania from a Groupon offer. Groupon offered a 4 hour deal but we chose their 3 hour deal listed on their website. What a BLAST!! Everyone had such an amazing time! Our Ref Jack was THE BEST. He arrived on time, set up the sumo gear, then introduced himself to all of our guests. He was so incredibly personable and professional. We will most definitely do this again!!!!!!! read more

My 12 year old daughter had her birthday party last 02/11/12. We had Jack as the referee. Jack was quite wonderful, he set up on time, waseasy to get along with, easy going, yet very professional. He kept the party going, we had 15 girls from the ages of 11-12. The girls were very entertained and felt safe. I will hire this company again. I absolutely loved renting sumo suits from Sumo Mania. I was looking for suits for my birthday party and they were the most affordable. I paid $190 for a 3 hour rental that included delivery and set-up. The employee who delivered the suits was on time, set it up for us, had us put on the suits for a demo before he left, came back on time, and packed it all up himself. He was extremely polite and was quick with doing the job. My entire family loved the sumo suits. Who would have thought that 55 year old Middle Eastern men and women would (1) actually get into a suit, (2) laugh so hard their stomachs hurt, and (3) want to battle each other multiple times? All of my family and friends from ages 22 to 55 had the most fun they'd had in a long time. I highly recommend renting sumo suits from Sumo Mania. The fun was worth every penny. read more
