Dr. Armand is another wonderful doctor on the team, and he offers holistic-style treatment options that are absolutely worth exploring. The front staff, Lina and Alicia, are absolute gems. There's plenty of room outside to walk your dogs after their visit, and the area feels safe and comfortable. Whenever I can surrender enough to completely hand over the assessment and decision making to Dr. Rettig, we always get a good outcome. On more than one occasion, we have seen resolution of an acute issue within 24 hours of our treatment session. It's been truly remarkable. Dr. Rettig is an expert in holistic animal care, but on the few occasions that Jojo has needed specialty help from a traditional vet, Dr. Rettig communicated that to us immediately and supplied us with wonderful referrals. My dog had an ongoing skin infection and after trying various creams and antibiotics, nothing was working. I waited quite a while to get an appointment, but I had high hopes (in spite of the negative reviews here on yelp). First thing I noticed was the attitude of the staff. There was no warm welcome, and their main concern seemed to be whether I had the means to pay for the vet services. The dermatologist seemed concerned, and professional, so I placed my dog in her care. After two more appointments, and almost $1000 in fees, I was back where I started. No changes in my dogs skin problem. The vet said she couldn't quite figure out what was causing the problem, and yes, I should book yet another appointment and come back again. (Each of these appointments costs a small fortune). I eventually gave up, and took my dog to a local vet in Lafayette. For a fraction of the cost, my local vet quickly diagnosed the issue, which turned out to be an infection that requires a specific antibiotic. My dog took the meds for 30 days, and the infection was gone! It was that simple. Don't fall for the hype.....chances are your pet will do just fine with a competent vet and you don't need this over-priced "dermatologist."

Trying to find an animal dermatologist who is experienced is like trying to find a needle in a haystack, this doctor is one of the few board certified animal dermatologists in California, I figured it wouldn't get any better than that for my fur kid. Bad decision, let me start by saying this is not her full time practice, she only has a clinic here a few times a week. Her actual practice is in San Ramon. The staff here are sub-optimal, I arrived 15 minutes early to my appointment and still had to wait over 30 minutes to check-in. There was a woman at the front desk the whole time but she refused to help me because she was not Dr. Codner's person. So when the appropriate assistant showed up, we finally got checked in. Then we got roomed, sat and waited for our dog to get his vitals recorded. The assistant was unable to weigh my dog, apparently he lunged at her, I say apparently because the dog got taken away and I didn't see it actually happen. I know the dog is an APBT but that doesn't mean he is aggressive. The dog is a teddy bear. The assistant came back, handed me the leash and left. We sat and waited some more. Finally Dr. Codner walks in, she is visibly upset. She begins our interaction by saying and I quote " If your dog bites me you are responsible, if your dog has ever bitten a person and you are withholding that information from me, you will be held liable. Am I clear?" To this, I am extremely offended. My mother who came with me was offended. Neither of us knew what to say. I agreed and said my dog has NEVER bit a human. NOT even tried to do so. The Vet proceeded to tell me that he had lunged at his assistant and bared his teeth. Again, my dog has never done that. Anyway, I take the dog to get weighed. No problems. He was extremely anxious and nervous at this point. The vet looked like she didn't even want to touch him. It was horrible. The woman has ZERO social skills. She did cytology and concluded that he didnt have any infections. Then she proceeded to tell me that I need to start my dog on lifetime allergy protocols...steroids, injections, etc. NO thanks. I had a medicated shampoo prescribed and I took that with me. Her recommendation was that I go to her actual practice in San Ramon to see her in the future where there are more 'experienced staff' available. I didn't want to see her staff or her again. I did not book any recurring appointments. I will NEVER recommend this person to anybody. How can she be a vet if she doesn't even like dogs... ? I walked away $200 poorer and with little further knowledge than what I walked in with. What a waste. TLDR: Do NOT go here, the woman has no social skills and no actual skills with a dog. She does not even try to get along with your pet. She may be board certified but my suggestion is to go elsewhere.

I've also been referred for way more expensive procedures that I didn't think were necessary. Finally, we were referred to Dr. Richter. He listened to my dog's history, understood my thinking, told me it made sense, and told me he understood the pathway I wanted to take. For once, I wasn't automatically crazy or a "helicopter" pup parent. He really gets it. Dr. Richter had a very reasonable grasp on my dog's history and the reasons for his issues. I am so looking forward to continuing treatment with him in the coming months, focusing on the gut and on my dog's past mold exposure. I can't say enough about what it means to be truly heard and understood by a vet, and have them speak to you on a well-informed level. Dr. Richter is not only brilliant, he also has excellent people skills. Most vets try to talk down to me or put me in my place when I come with as much info as I do, and that gets me nowhere, just burning my bank account and morale. That said, my experience with this facility has lead me to believe that their primary motivation is financial. Every working person's motivation is financial, that's not news. What's different with this facility is their blatant, financially-predatory, means of running their practice. Pacific staff are trained to consciously and purposely use the emotional distraught of pet patients' parents to fleece them financially. I believe that even tho the medical staff know that a case is terminal, they give false hope to the parents in order to authorize expensive treatments. And they go through the motions, knowing full well it is futile. They will skirt the line of full blown lies with 'yes there is a chance they'll fully recover'...but when confronted, they can say "well 5 %, isn't zero so technically, we didn't lie to you. I have had dogs all my life, been to many vets, said goodbye to many fur babies in my 50 plus years. In all my many other experiences at pet hospitals, I've never experienced such blatant greed. It was an emergency, my primary vet chose this place because of the hour and staff availability at that time. I would NOT RECOMMEND this place. They have the bedside manner of rabid jackals-especially the administrative staff. Maybe don't harass a grieving parent over the phone at 2 am demanding payment literally moments after they had to say goodbye to their fur baby. You have multiple credit cards on file, one from me one from my spouse, you have our child's corpse, and yet you're treating us like we're shoplifters who were caught. When our cat passed at their facility it was very respectful and we had time to let go in a calm environment. Our dog is currently healing from a tooth extraction and we're glad they were able to get her in for the procedure in a reasonable amount of time, she wasn't in any pain and we didn't want her to be. Our dog gets nervous but the staff were able to see her sweet side which means she trusted them. It's also very helpful to have the option of a payment arrangement, it definitely takes some of the stress out of an already stressful situation. We will continue to come to Creature Comfort with our old and new pets as long as they're open and we're in the area!

I was looking for holistic care options for my pup and what I was told by the receptionist is the initial appointment would be 30 minutes and somewhere in the $150 range (I can't remember the exact cost) to be evaluated for chiropractic services only, or there was an hour long appointment for $300 to be evaluated for all services offered, including chiropractic. I chose the latter option because I didn't want to limit myself....but I chose wrong and I was scammed out of $300. My appointment was at 9:30 which I arrived promptly for, if not a few minutes early. I was led into the room right away which was great, but then the Dr didn't enter the room until 9:55, and had no explanation for apologies for being late. I sat there for 25 minutes with no contact...except for the technician that came in to perform a nail trim on my dog which was obviously not what I was there for and she realized she mistakenly came into the wrong room. By this point I was already frustrated having been left there for nearly half of what I had expected the full appointment time to be, but I figured maybe they were running late and the hour appointment would be extended to account for the tardiness. I talked with the Dr and explained my pet's issues, to which she completed about 10 minutes of acupuncture, and then promptly returned to the room at 10:30 when the appointment would have initially been completed and basically said okay we're done here. When I asked about the other services that I was there to get evaluated for and the additional time to make up for her tardiness, I was told that my pet could possibly benefit from chiropractic as well but I would have to see another Dr for that, which confused me because I thought that was the reason I was currently there and that would have been determined at this initial appointment especially since my pet was only seen for about 30 minutes at this point. The Dr then just walked out of the room with no real comment or clarification about the process, nor even a simple goodbye. As I checked out I expressed my frustration to the front desk with what I experienced and decided not to book a follow up appointment at this time based on that experience. I was really excited coming into my appointment at the possibility that I might finally be able to treat my pet's ongoing issue and unfortunately I left completely upset and disappointed by the whole thing and wasted $300 for nothing!! I sent an email to the clinic expressing my frustrations and still have yet to hear back. DO NOT GIVE THESE PEOPLE YOUR MONEY!!
