Can't believe I haven't written a Summit Store review yet! This store is awesome! The deli/prepared food selection is pretty expansive and has something for everyone. They have reasonable prices for the grocery items, which isn't to be expected from a small independent store in the mountains, but I've found a number of items that are cheaper here than at Safeway. And serve is always friendly. The prepared food can be hit or miss, the sandwiches are usually pretty great (especially if you can get them made to order), I'm not a big fan of the burritos and didn't like my most recent wrap, but sandwiches and hot food are almost always a hit. I haven't personally tried the sushi, but I always see people eating it saying how good it is, and on my last visit, it was almost all sold out. read more

It had been so long since I've been here and I was happy to not only come back, but to introduce my wife to a store that I have visited almost every year for close to 40 years. There were a few changes but I love that everything still has that home feeling to it. All the products here are high-quality and there's something that could be found for everyone. I walked out with a good amount of snacks for the drive home along with some deviled eggs. My wife and I also found a rack of hats and we walked away with a couple of those as well. The food tasted great, the service was amazing. While we were eating lunch in our car in the parking lot of the store, one of the employees who was helping another patron to their car, stopped by briefly and checked in to see that we enjoyed everything we bought. I love that - you don't get to see that at stores often. It is sad that I don't get to come by the store as often as I used to but I'm happy that we were able to stop by this one time that we were in town. read more

I love the hot entree bar and the sandwiches! You can also order ahead because sometimes it gets really busy, especially on weekends and lunch time. It is a great place to get lunch while biking or wine tasting in the Santa Cruz mountains! There is an also a good beer selection, and you can enjoy a cold beer with your lunch at one of the tables outside. read more

Beautiful store in the mountains with a wide array of fresh produce at a great price point. There are also ready to eat items like hot beef chili and tiramisu. This is where you want to make that pit stop and refuel if you're driving through the mountains (I was coming back from some mushroom foraging with a friend). Was very impressed and am sad that they are not closer to South Bay because their products are excellent quality!!! read more

Don't come here hungry... I was first introduced to this place by a friend that was raving about their marinaded meat section. It was delicious. Great for BBQs or just a weeknight dinner. THEN, I started purchasing my produce here, which I think they have a vibrant selection of fruits and vegetables at a reasonable price. THEN, one day I came here on and empty stomach, bought all of the above, ended up with a Christmas prime rib, and a hot sandwich because I was starving. To top it all off, all the staff is super knowledgeable and friendly. I should go back sometime soon. read more

Nice grocery store with a great meat, wine & spirits selection. Staff are friendly and helpful at this family owned grocery store. My friends and I always stop by here on our way to Santa Cruz. Perfect pit stop before or after some local wine tasting. I stopped here after a full day of wine tasting and needed some lunch. I decided to go with a deli sandwich, a large bag of chips, a bubbly water, and I could not pass up a dessert. Prices are fair and service is quick. There are plenty of hot items in the food bar that you can grab and go. There are a decent amount of seats outside, however, it got fairly packed when I was visiting. read more

Should have reviewed this place a long time ago!!!! The staff here is always very friendly and helpful they make it a pleasure to shop. They always have wonderful and fresh fruit and vegetables. My favorite thing is their deli and meat counter, if you haven't tried the Russian rubann yet it is a must. So if you live on the summit or are just up for a weekend drive or bike ride you should definitely stop in for lunch or their great meat selection. Almost forgot!! Wow !!!!! Now this is a Country Store On Steroids!!! There is a Full Service Sandwich Bar , Pizza Place , Coffee Bar , Full Service Butcher and a Sushi Bar located in Store!!!! They have a Full Service Wine Section!!!! I wish I had a Summit Store in my Neighborhood!!! I bought a Tomahawk Steak , Roast Beef Sandwich and a California Roll!!! On this Visit. Do not purchase sandwiches at this place! They use disgusting (in sandwiches) Romaine lettuce instead of iceberg, but that just one of the problems with their sandwiches. I was in a rush to grab some sandwiches for myself and some family members. I made the mistake of buying the pre-made sandwiches, because they looked very good: plenty of lettuce (turns out it was essentially a lettuce sandwich), loaded with avocado (avo looked great, but it tasted gross and had the texture of a super-thick pudding), lastly the sandwich had two piddly slices of turkey. Oh and each sandwich was $14 - the cost of two pre-made Safeway sandwiches, which are at least edible, if not downright delicious by comparison! To be fair I must admit, however, that the ribs I bought from the hot food bar were very good. The capper to the crap experience at the SS was the shite customer service I received. When I greeted the old wretch clerk who rang me up he ignored me. Time for someone to start collecting SS or get a job that doesn't involve contact with people! Get a clue SS!! read more

The Summit Store is always fully stocked and faced, clean, it offers an impressive variety of merchandise, the produce is always fresh, it has an amazing meat selection at the butcher's counter, there's a cafe and a large self-service hot food section, and it has the best indicator of a business that deserves your patronage and respect possible: the employees seem sincerely comfortable, productive, pleasant, helpful, and healthy. I took the time to leave this review on account of my experience with the early morning staff, and in particular an employee named Israel. The floor staff asked around if anyone had a set of cables to assist me with a jump start, and Israel not only took the time to help me out, he handed me a spare set of cables and refused to accept a single cent in return for his effort and generosity. Not many places to get something quick in this area. But when my real estate agent had me stop over here because I told her I wanted a quick bite to eat, I was skeptical. However, this was a great place. Their sandwiches all looked amazing. I got some sort of tri tip sandwich and it was delicious. I will definitely come back because eventually I'll be moving to the area. The rest of the market looked clean, the services was friendly, and I love that it looks family owned. read more

I didn't know what to expect from this store after moving in the area but I'm glad I finally went. I heard great things about their sandwiches and decided to try them. The woman who helped me with my order was very helpful and very nice. As she made my meal I had a chance to walk through the store. Came across a few other employees who were also very nice. I ended up with a meatloaf sandwich and a container of what they called Chinese chicken. I thought the meatloaf was okay but the chicken was so tasty and delicious. I'm going back for more sandwiches and will try the other ones over time. I'm not going to leave without the Chinese chicken. Bottom line in my opinion is that the service is great and I will be returning. Worth the time and effort to go there read more

I wish I lived closer! This place is great. Not only do they carry an amazing selection of wine, produce, premade foods, etc, etc, etc, the employees are awesome! The other night, a friend and I made an emergency stop there when we both realized that we managed to not bring our wallets. It was 5 minutes to closing yet they let my friend head home to get her wallet while I hung out with the employees who were friendly, accommodating, and very understanding. About 40+ years ago, this place saved my life. Ok, maybe a bit of an exaggeration, but I had left Santa Clara on my new (to me) bicycle, heading towards Lexington reservoir. That was a good ride, but I had more in me, and kept going. I made my way past the lake and onto Old Santa Cruz Hwy and kept climbing up. Maybe I'd forgotten to eat beforehand, but in any case, I was gassing out. Eventually, weaving and dizzy, I pulled up to the Summit Store. I stumbled inside, grabbed a Gatorade and a sandwich and proceeded to inhale it while sitting up against the wall outside. Next thing I remembered was the guy running the store nudging me with his foot. "Son, you might wanna get headed back down, if you wanna get home before dark". I had been OUT for about an hour!! I thanked him, and jumped back on the bike and headed back DOWNHILL towards home. Now as an old dude, I sometimes take the slower route over the hill to avoid the nuts. I often stop in, and although it's grown and changed, it's still a great place to grab a sandwich (awesome deli) or grab a tri-tip to grill later. read more

I called several times to confirm my large catering order and even called a few days before to confirm again. When I arrived for pickup, NONE of the food was available. They had mixed up the date and thought it was for the next day even though they wrote down the correct date. Fortunately, they were able to scramble together the order within 30 minutes however I don't think the quality of our sandwich platter was great. The bread was hard and kind of stale which was unfortunate. The mezze platter had very stale and dry falafels so it just wasn't that tasty. Our berry salads were excellent thankfully. We got a good discount due to their catering mix-up and they threw in another berry salad for free. I am not sure if the food would have been prepared better if they prepared it appropriately on time but eh. Not sure I would drive out of my way again to come to Summit Store but maybe if I just happened to be in the woods I could give it another try. read more

Everytime I walk into Summit store I feel like royality, yes the only customer in the house; maybe it's because when I go it's 6AM. Just before my morning bike ride, I grab myself an espresso, lift my pinkee which holds the cup I daintly sip from and enjoy the quite of it all before the hussle and bussle of the morning commuters on Summit road. However, if you go for the meats, vegetables, hot bar, sandwiches, eyecandy and/or cold brewski located in the rear of the store, you've hit the sweet spot. Can't say enough good things about the quality of the goods, variety, and the friendly people. Definitely an anchor location in this neck of the woods not to be missed. read more

This store is amazing. In a small space they carry almost everything that we can get at Safeway down in Los Gatos town center, and it is wonderful to have it close by for those of us who live in the Summit area of the Santa Cruz Mountains. Their merchandising selection is first rate, and if there is something they don't have , they are eager to please and often will add it. For instance, they carry Ben & Jerry Ice Cream but not vanilla, and after I pointed out that the Washington Post selected that as the best vanilla ice cream, within weeks they began carrying it. The quality of their meat is first-rate, and the produce is always fresh and tasty. The people were very friendly and helpful. Highly recommended. read more

It's a good grocery store. Considering it's the only place around to get food before heading up the hill to your AirBnB, it's a great grocery store. Prices for sundries are pretty good, not crazy priced as you would expect from a small spot like this. At 5pm on a weekday, the hot foods bar is looking a little crusty, but thankfully you can grab a fresh sandwich instead which is the way we went. Deli sandwiches were great, though super small for the prices. Steer clear of the ready made desserts, they're all dry and flavorless. read more

My son was served a completely RAW fried chicken sandwich yesterday. I was shocked how this could possibly happen but so angry with the response from management we got. Store owner wouldn't even talk to me. They refunded the cost of the sandwich. Unfortunately, the sandwich was 1/2 eaten before noticing. With the lettuce, tomato, mayo and bun it wasn't obvious because it really doesn't taste weird, its the texture. He was really hungry and just took 2-3 big bites before he set it down and I looked at it. It's just not something you expect to happen. Should this be reported to the health department? I'm not seeking any compensation from them at this time, but a sincere apology would have been nice. If their chicken had salmonella bacteria in it and he gets sick, they will definitely be hearing from me again. Needless to say, after he threw up, he felt nauseous the rest of the day into the evening. read more
