Overall I'd say great value. My experience using this shop had some hurdles, but it was handled well. There was a strange noise that appeared after the repair, and when I returned without an appointment to address it, it was fixed within 30 minutes at no additional cost. These situations showed me that Derek's automotive takes responsibility where other shops don't. Props to Austin at the desk for being very knowledgeable and taking care of me. As customers began to realize the value, expertise and commitment to employing the highest-trained technicians, Sallas Auto Repair began to grow. Nick's wife, Carla, joined the team in 1998 and helped bridge the gaps of administration and production, which helped boom the business. Between management classes, adding Carla, and loyal and committed customers, Sallas Auto Repair grew. Today, what started as a two-bay shop has grown into a repair shop in Kansas City with 14 service bays, in 2005 we added the Overland Park store that has 10 bays, and in 2025 we added Lee Summit store with 4 bays. Of course, there's a charge for that "service." Instead, we asked for specific repairs and they charged for "taking a look" to confirm in addition to cost of repair. They also said they had to run codes, charged to run codes, then quoted a repair that had already been done. The communication from the "front office" to techs is ineffective resulting in wasted time and unnecessary repairs being made and quoted. If your car problem is not cookie cutter, they are not equipped or able to diagnose. Their service is mostly consuming time and charging for it.
