Horrible horrible and very unprofessional people!

I was told of my rent increase on 6/28- 1 week and 1 day before 7/6. I am an excellent tenant: have rented with them since they very unfortunately took over as property management when the owner retired, have never been late on rent, haven't had any complaints by my neighbors, am quiet, respectful, have been vigilant and care about the property. I also let them know that I am a public servant and that my income will only be raised by like 3% this year if that. Raising my rent by the maximum allowed by law (as they have done Every year) is perfectly legal but it is wrong on so many other levels and people should be wary of their predatory ways. They are just another company who puts profits before people.

We tried working with a Berkshire agent recently, and it was the least professional real estate…read moreexperience I can remember. We dealt with Berkshire agent Frank Sanford on a $3,600 home rental, while also searching for a home in Lake Oswego in the $4m range. An "uncomfortable experience" in many ways, especially for my wife. Throughout, Mr Sanford was unprepared, and frequently suggested options which demonstrated a lack of ethics and integrity on his part. Not someone I want to do business with, or have represent our family. There's plenty of professional agents in the marketplace, and we'll work with BH managers to identify a more suitable Berkshire representative (or find a new realtor).

I contacted the office to make sure it was received and the receptionist was very rude and told me everything was on the website (understood) I just anticipated a response of some kind. I did receive one shortly after. When I came to the office to bring my docs and application fee I realized they only take cashiers checks not personal checks but I gave everything else and said I would run and get a cashiers check. I did, when I came back the receptionist pulled out a calculator and said we dont accept applicants who make less than 3x the rent. Aside from the fact that this doesnt account for my bills and whether I can afford it or not-obviously as an adult with 20 years of impeccable rental history Im qualified to determine what I can afford but I also found it unprofessional to do that in front of me, the client, and everyone else in the office waiting to be helped. This couldve been listed in the application, or when I submitted my application before my trips to the office or even on my 2nd trip. I also now see on the website a co-signer can assist, this option wasnt offered to me and I have one! In addition to rental references accounting for the last 13 years of my rental history. They also expect you to list and potentially pay a pet fee for goldfish.

I highly recommend Melina, who helped me buy my first home. As a single, 30-something woman,…read moreMelina was exactly the agent that I needed to help me feel confident about my home search and purchase. My search took months because of my own narrow criteria and budget. During that time, Melina met me at every house I wanted to see and gave me her candid assessment of each property. She steered me away from many houses that would've been a bad fit for me, and she never pressured me to settle for the wrong house. And once we found the right one, she shepherded me through the transaction with her trademark steadiness and practicality. The purchasing process had plenty of stressful moments, but it was reassuring to have Melina and her years of experience on my side. And her support didn't end on closing day either--when I had to go out of town right after closing, she fed my newly-acquired koi and got rid of a few unwanted items the seller left behind. I'm grateful that I got to work with Melina to purchase a house that I love.

HORRIBLE TRAUMATIC EXPERIENCE My amazing father has dementia…read moreand my family is dealing with the many challenges that come with this disease including the loss of his drivers license and the decision that he can no longer care for himself. It was time to sell his home and he would move to a place where meals are provided and other care that he needs is available. Mind you my parents have only purchased 2 homes in their lifetime and still reside in my childhood home. They are not savvy or knowledgeable about anything related to selling a house. I was ultimately referred to the realtor's broker Melina who contacted me about my requests for fliers and/or a QR code and using social media to promote the house and specifically that in the walkable neighborhood of Englewood where my dad's house is located is a great way to inform people about my dad's remodeled and quaint home. I was told that fliers, social media and other suggestions for advertising were NOT within the advertising agreement that my dad signed with my mom present. They are responsible for signing the agreement but they also didn't know that for the agent/broker commission that all they would essentially receive is staging for a tiny 2 bed 1 bath home, pictures of the property and an open house (neighbors by invitation) the open house was self serving as a way to meet new potential clients and let looky Lou's snoop around the house. I was appalled and shocked no hustle, no strategy whatsoever to make this house move quickly. I believe the house had been on the market for not even 2 weeks and when Melina the owner of this company spoke with me she was a NIGHTMARE think Devil Wears Prada Linda Wintour kind of pompous, rude and condescending. I was hurt, felt disrespected and very upset by her actions and how she treated me. It led to a total breakdown in trust and confidence in her and her agent. I'm not sure if she had even the slightest twinge of care about my family and caregivers fatigue from caring for a family member. Selling his house included the dismantling of my dads home, belongings and it's a painful experience for him and our family. Hiring a realtor and a broker is supposed to take the responsibility and stress away from the family turning it over to "professionals" who happily collect commission and that is when we decided this was not a safe or honorable place to place our trust. The worst part is that I informed Melina owner/broker that my dad didn't have a copy of his signed contract nor did my mother. The broker said that it must be in a box from his move....ummm....No. Electronic email is standard for sending a contract. I did speak to Melina/owner-broker again and I was hoping for a chance to move forward and unfortunately I was again met with a communication style that was abrupt, harsh and her goal is about winning and being right instead of seeking to understand and find common ground. On the complete opposite spectrum our agent remained positive, kind, caring and compassionate. I highly recommend her and hope she's able to find a brokerage firm that matches her energy and professionalism. We appreciate her dedication to our family.

Referrals are Gold: I was looking for a solid referral,…read moreregarding selling my home in Mexico. I called the Realtor's Association in Salem Oregon. A friendly voice greeted me. I inquired if any Realtor's were licensed in Oregon to take on my quest and had experience with both US and Mexico. The friendly voice recommended TU CASA Real Estate in Salem, Jose Gonzalez Principal Broker. I had a conversation with Mr. Gonzalez, with a followup appointment at his office in Salem. You could not help but notice a huge picture pined too the front of his desk. Asking what is the story of it, Mr. Gonzalez went on to say it was taken in Zacatecas Mexico, A group of Realtor's from around the US meet in Zacatecas help, guide and form a governing body over Realtor's. Much like we have in US. Success with the convention, The association was formed, with advice and leadership from the group from US. A.M.P.I. Is a Non-Governmental organization(NGO) My visit with Mr. Gonzalez was exceptional, he and his partner has/had much experience with selling homes in Mexico A gold mine for me! I left documentation with him and with a followup in the future. I left with the understanding the sales of the homes in Mexico was little to none at the moment. The office in Salem was generating overwhelming business, Mexico sales took a back seat. I meet with Mr. Gonzalez in Salem, it was a lunch meeting, he explained what course he was going to take. Excited from this outline. My disappointment started with lack of communication, I sent a thank you card to his office after my first visit and e-mails of gratitude along with $100.00 thank you for his time. I offered payment of any amount to get the ball started. Not needed at this time. The lack of communication continued, I reached out through text, e-mails and messages at his office. What is the problem I thought! My over communication, really! Not sure. My review is positive and also meant to buyer/seller beware do your home work, even if you think the referral was strong. Mr. Gonzalez cost me 7-8 weeks of time from moving forward. Pick up the phone Mr. Gonzalez and act like a professional and say something. If your not interested then let it be known. Your wasted my time.
