One Star - Concerns Regarding Communication, Professionalism, and Patient Experience I am a healthcare professional with over 39 years of experience, and it is very uncommon for me to write a negative public review. However, based on multiple firsthand experiences, I feel it is important to share my concerns regarding this practice. I have been a patient of Dr. Thomas Cioce for several years and typically only see him for routine care. Approximately two months ago, I scheduled an appointment for medical clearance for surgery. During that visit, Dr. Cioce questioned why I was seeing him rather than a nurse practitioner. After I explained that I required physician clearance, the visit felt rushed and dismissive and lasted only a few minutes. On December 29, 2025, my 74-year-old husband developed a fever and cough. I contacted the office to schedule an appointment and spoke with Ellen, a member of the front office staff. I was advised to take my husband to the emergency room. I explained that this was not a life-threatening emergency and that we were seeking evaluation through his primary care provider. An appointment was eventually scheduled, and my husband tested positive for COVID-19 and received treatment. Later that same day, after I developed similar symptoms, I contacted the office seeking guidance. I was informed that no appointments were available and was advised to seek care elsewhere. When I attempted to explain my symptoms and recent exposure, the call was ended by the staff member. I called back on two additional occasions and was hung up on each time after being told no appointments were available. Being repeatedly hung up on while ill and seeking guidance from one's primary care office is unacceptable. As a result, I was forced to seek care at an urgent care center, where I waited four hours to be seen. Notably, the first question I was asked upon arrival was, "Why didn't your primary care doctor see you?" This situation was entirely preventable and reflects poorly on the coordination and accessibility of care at this practice. The only reason I have continued care at this practice is due to Amber, the nurse practitioner, who has consistently demonstrated professionalism, compassion, and thorough care. My concerns do not reflect her performance. I strongly recommend that Dr. Cioce and the front office staff receive customer service and patient-communication training. If individuals are unable or unwilling to treat patients with basic courtesy and professionalism, they should reconsider working in a patient-facing healthcare role. I also attempted to escalate these concerns within the organization but was unable to obtain clear information regarding corporate leadership or the corporate office. I encourage anyone reading this review to contact the office directly to understand the communication challenges firsthand. Since the company was acquired in 2023 the experience has been nothing short of disappointing. I had been a patient for over 15 years and was always satisfied with both the doctors and the administration. Unfortunately that level of professionalism and reliability has completely disappeared. Appointments are now nearly impossible to make. The system constantly sends confirmations for appointments that were never scheduled, creating confusion and frustration. Longstanding experienced doctors have left and they are being replaced with new graduates who clearly lack the expertise and continuity that patients expect. The quality of service in every aspect including administration, medical care and overall patient experience has deteriorated dramatically since the acquisition. I had a liver biopsy performed by the interventional radiology department and everyone I dealt with was professional and curteous. All the nurses were helpful and kind and supportive. The doctors came to see me before and explained all the steps before and what to do after when I went home. I even received a phone call from one of the nurses, Veronica, to check on how I was doing. My daughter came in at 9am and several non urgent cases went in ahead of her. They tried to give me some excuse about triaging patients. There was a elderly gentleman with a very serious issue who was made to wait. I am told it takes 1 to 3 days for results for a bio, going on a week. Tells me they get a kick out of you suffering. When and if you get a call its from some child like no nothing reading a play book. Ask a question never an answer. This is not a care center lets just make this clear its a business and nothing more. I will be leaving this place asap. Had an appointment with Dr Sabnani-Nagella for December and office canceled it without telling me. When I found out just now (October), they said they left me a voicemail in June. I never got any voicemails and when I tried to reschedule I was told my number/information was not in the system. I've been a patient of Summit Medical for many years. This screed is about my attempt to get mammography records sent from Summit to my new doctor at Barnabas. The Summit website provided a phone number for Radiology/records at #375 in Livingston. I called 3 days in a row and no one answered the phone. I eventually figured out from somewhere on the web that Radiology had moved. I finally found a phone # for records requests that was answered but the totally automated announcement refused to help unless I had already submitted a request online. I had hoped to avoid that process. I'm 81 years old and I was furious about how difficult this process was. I finally managed to find and complete the process online & I was thrilled to know that I am no longer in the Summit system after the ordeal I endured! Patient satisfaction failures at every step of the way! The final insult was that after checking the box that said I didn't find the tool easy to use, the review refused to "go." The tool itself was really not bad; the total experience was. I later wrote to Summit Patient Experience (or something like that) and all I got was "sorry it was so difficult." A Summit Health doctor caused a physical injury during a routine exam and then gave me incorrect and delayed guidance on how to address the injury. After it became necessary for me to seek medical care from an outside specialist to treat the injury, Summit Health refused to assist with the cost of that treatment indicating they considered the injury to be a "known risk" of the exam performed by their doctor. Neither the doctor, nor Summit Health, ever discussed any potential exam risks with me prior to the exam, and the specialist from whom I ended up seeking treatment indicated the injury I sustained was the result of an incorrectly performed exam. So today is Wednesday, December 11, 2024 and I have an appointment to get bloodwork before seeing my oncologist. By the way I have the best oncologist ever. I got to the facility early due to the rain and traffic and I went in early to use the restroom. It was 7:38. Am and I went to the desk to ask a simple questions where you do bloodwork. The lady told me she was not open. That was fine I wanted to ask a quick question and she told me no I can't ask her any question and I will have to wait 2 mins for her to clock in. She was very dismissive and her attitude does not fit being in health care where so many people are sick, going through and some are scared to go through Docters and now you have this rude human being with no bit of compassion being nice at all. An Outstanding Team of Doctors and Nurses here at this Summit Medical Center location. Although office personnel who are employed here are usually Rude and unwilling to help anyone, the Quality of Doctors and Nurses outweighs this. Comfortable roomy waiting areas with plenty of T.V.s and clean bathrooms. Nice Cafe downstairs on the right as you first enter the main building. There is an on site laboratory located downstairs for same visit bloodwork analysis. Lab hours are 9 am to 4 pm weekdays and they usually move pretty quickly so you can be in & out & on your way. On the left side of this facility is an Urgent Care Center for minor injuries and illnesses. Anything life threatening or major should definitely be handled by one of the larger local Hospitals. read more

Horrible experience. Arrived for a 4pm appointment and no receptionist. I knocked on door to lab, per the sign taped to the door. No answer. Waited 5 minutes, knocked again...still no answer. Waited another 5 minutes, knocked again and finally someone sauntered to the door. No other patients inside, just 2 lab techs sitting and chatting. My son was very nervous about his blood draw and they rolled their eyes and said they close in 10 minutes (after I just waited 10 minutes for them to finish their conversation). My son flinched on the first attempt to draw blood and the phlebotomist walked away and said she couldn't do it. One attempt with a nervous pediatric patient and she refused to try again. The lack of kindness and care to a scared child was completely unprofessional. We walked out and they got to clock out by 4:20pm. Never again. If you have any choice of labs, do NOT choose this one unless you enjoy dismissive, unprofessional treatment. These women should not be in healthcare. read more

The doctors are very good when you actually get to see them. The vibe this place gives off, though, is that it's all about making money and not patient care. For example, after insurance, I owed a co-pay of $19 and received dozens of text messages remaindering me to pay but not a single message asking "are you feeling better?" Went for my annual physical who's practices under Summit Medical Group. Summit charged me additional office visit ($188), not covered by my insurance co. nor was I told they would be charging me. As much as I love my gynocologist and her exceptional care, I will never come back to Summit Medical. I had an awful situation yesterday regarding my mammogram and ultrasound. There was a confusion with my appointment time and I was 10 minutes late.I thought both of my Tests were at 3:30, I arrived at 3:10. Only to find out that one was scheduled for 3:00 and the other was 3:30 In the past I have waited up to an hour to see my doctor and was compliant. I was told that forfeiting both of my appointments and had to reschedule. I took time off of work yesterday to have my annual exam, only to be turned away by an incredibly unprofessional, insensitive staff member. I was also told that the facility ( 75 E.Northfield Ave, Livingston) only had one technician to perform a mammogram. I find that deplorable as well.
