First visit to Summit Grill today. Decided to do a late lunch early dinner and came in at 3:45. The place was already packed so we opted for the high top chairs. Very good ambience with a lot of people working here - very good service. We started with calamari. It was very delicious. We ate it so quick I didn't get a picture. Next up was the chophouse salad. It was very tasty. I remembered to take a photo when it was about half gone. My husband had the prime rib sandwich that came with fries and a side of horseradish sauce. He said it was very good. I had the chicken fried chicken. Wow it was so good! Was also very hearty and I could only eat half. Took the rest of it home. I highly recommend this dish. Total bill was $67. We will be back. Finally! I have lived in the Northland my whole life, and I am so excited to see an addition like Summit in the area. This local restaurant is full of great food on the menu. I went with my family yesterday. My Grandma got the Ruben, and she is quite particular, but she cleaned her plate! I got the Traditional Pot Roast. It was a decent portion size and very flavorful. I came during restaurant week for lunch and was not disappointed! I was seated right away in Abby's area. She was super knowledgeable about the menu and so very nice. She checked on me periodically and made sure I was enjoying my meal. I had the angus kc strip with smashed potatoes. It was cooked perfectly, not overly seasoned and a very generous portion. I truly enjoyed the meal and Abby's kind, calm demeanor made it even more enjoyable. I will absolutely return for dinner. read more

I love living in the Northland, but it is truly lacking in good creative restaurants. Not anymore. My wife mentioned The Summit Grill in Gladstone, and I said "Where's that?" All I can say is Holy Moly! Made a reservation for 5:30 that night thinking we'd beat the rush. When we arrived, it was packed. The happy hour is first come first served and there was a wait. I was thrilled that we were sat immediately. Our waiter Jake in a word was wonderful. My wife and I both got the French Onion soup which was cheesy in a great way. Really nice and friendly and knowledgeable about all the menu items . I tried the Farmhouse burger and it was perfectly made the over easy egg was perfect , I got the steak fries which were flavorful but not over seasoned . My Gf ordered the chicken fried chicken , nice portions and crispy goodness !! We love that summit grill offers a more upscale dining option in the northland. Their happy hour specials in the bar on drinks and snacks are also a good value. Favorite dishes are their Ahi tuna appetizer and the truffle fries. Any of their fried chicken options are also good (sandwiches or entrées) read more

Two visits in one month, so I owe Summit Grill a review. Overall, it's the best thing in the Northland as far as fine dining goes. We needed this. The decor is beautiful, the place itself is massive, there are little thoughtful touches throughout. Both times I received impeccable service, really the staff is fantastic. The only reason it's 4 and not 5 stars is because the food didn't knock me off my feet, like I expected. And maybe I'm in the minority here, but both dishes I had were just fine. I wanted it to be the best grilled chicken salad and the best French toast ever, but they were just ok. And maybe I need to order outside my comfort zone and try something different, but for these two pretty basic dishes, they were just that, basic. I'll go back again, I want to try more. Ok so the second visit was just as impressive as the first. We had Darrell to serve our meals to us. Very knowledgeable about all of the menu items. I had my craving for fish and chips. And it was very very good. But ya know what was really really good? The house made Cole slaw. It was really really good. It would have been better had it been served in a cold or chilled ramekin or plate. But the meal was awesome. Hippie Dippie Chic had the prime rib dip and she just gobbled it up. Pretty disappointed. Came for restaurant week and had high expectations based on what I'd heard about the original location in LS. I ordered my steak medium and it arrived well done. The server never asked how it was, so I didn't have an opportunity to ask to have it redone. With drinks and tip, our bill was $107. We could've had a much better meal for the same or less elsewhere. Waited for an hour and a half with children after they said it would only be 30 minutes. Several tables got cleared and we still did not get seated. After asking the host how much longer, she said you are next. Still waited 30 minutes. We went on Sunday with reservations. Had to go find someone to serve our table after sitting for 15 minutes with servers passing us but never stopping. Manager finally came and gave us our drinks and took our order. He assured us he would fix our wobbly table but that never happened. Food order was incorrect and my husband's food was a good 15 minutes later then the rest. Drinks were never filled unless we found someone to fill them. Overall one the worst dining experiences. I felt we should have been offered some type of discount as often we were our own wait staff. Manager acted put out when I asked. I'm not sure I will ever return to eat. We have been waiting for so long in the Northland to have an upscale dining experience and we are delighted that the Summit Grill has made their new home here. The restaurant is spacious and has plenty of seating opportunities. The lighting is also very inviting. We celebrated Restaurant Week today for lunch and it was delicious. Our table enjoyed the house salad, baked potato soup, shrimp risotto, 10 oz strip steak, chicken fried steak and peanut butter bar for dessert. Everything was scrumptious and beautifully prepared. Our server, Heidi, made the experience so enjoyable. She was so delightful, helpful and efficient. She provided such lively conversation that we will look to be in her area the next time we return. Thanksgiving and a house salad Thought I would give this place a try for thanksgiving. All started very good. Sean in outstanding. One person with us wanted a simple house salad. I was told no by a lady with minimal skills in hospitality. Perhaps a floor manager. No changes to the holiday menus. I asked since they had a wedge salad on menu that I would like it plain and to just cut it up. Again told no. I asked to order a plain wedge salad with the intent of just cutting it up like a house salad myself again told no. Now I'm no novice having worked every position in hospitality and upper management positions as well- yes I have had to tell a guest No but not over something as simple as iceberg lettuce, and some ranch dressing which was on the menu just not as a house salad. Wow! What a truly unbelievable experience. Better hospitality from the service folks at Freddie's Sean was great the chefs did a fine job but due to a $.60 house salad I will be very guarded in my recommendation of this place or my decision to return. Wow is all I can say. 35 yrs of dining out never thought a house salad would be what I judged a place like Summit Grill on. Be careful what you ask for. I love the decor here, it is hip and modern, and would be a great happy hour place. Parking is limited but they have complementary valet which is nice. We started with the fried shrimp and Caesar salad and both were food, the salad was large. We have the seafood Mac and it was good , not the best I've had. We also had the steak and it was great, better than some restaurants on the plaza. They have a lot of dessert options I loved the creme brûlée , and I loved my grapefruit shandy mixed drink. Stopped in for lunch today after hearing so much about Summit Grill and was so happy with our choice! Our server, I believe her name was Kendal, was so cute and so amazing and so sweet. She also paid a lot of attention to my kiddos and made them feel welcome which I feel like hardly any servers ever do. I will be asking for her as our server next time I come back. This was my first time coming here to Summit Grill! The food is PHENOMENAL. If he's working, you need to request Chris as your waiter! He is super upbeat and full of energy. He makes you feel very comfortable and ensures that you are fully taken care of. I will definitely be back the next time I visit Kansas City/Gladstone!
