As a first time home buyer I knew nothing about who to go to and what to do so I rely on the realtor for recommendations. The first realtor I used before I let him go referred me to Jon Dobbel and I stuck with him for the second house after the first house didn't go through due to a pest report. I stuck with him because... why?.... I don't know, because I didn't know who else to go to. When I went into contract on a Thursday I received a call from his colleague to congratulate me because he was gone on vacation and didn't go back to work until the following Monday and didn't get to my file until Tuesday. During this time I was shopping around and found a better deal with a lower APR, lower interest rate and a credit of $1500 towards closing costs. Jon didnt offer me a credit of any kind, but assumed that I wanted to pay points for a lower interest rate without asking which choice I would like. I asked if he could give me a credit for something that I didn't have to pay for- meaning a higher interest rate because I never stated I wanted to pay points for a lower interest rate. And the Bank was offering me something way better. He tried to make it sound better by saying that they are paying for more than half the points to get me that interest rate. That I never asked to pay for! He is saying it like he is doing so much for me. He didn't budge until I seriously was going to just stress and go with the better deal even though I was already 6 days wasted getting closer to closing due date. He then said he could give me a credit if 858. And my written estimate stated 858 clearly. But when I signed my closing disclosures I noticed that the numbers changed to 658. Thinking I didn't notice. Oh I did. But it's like pulling teeth with him. I didn't want to bother arguing more. So instead I do a review. Lesson learned!!! Shop around even if you don't know what you are doing!! Because you will figure it out. Go with your gut feelings. I should have gone with mine. It's worth the stress to go with people who actually care. read more

It would be a hard no. I would never recommend Summit Funding to any of my friends and family. Also, if you are your family is of color, run for the hills. I personally did not receive the care that my family and I deserved. During the process we were strung a long. Therefore I wasted a lot of time. I had the unfortunate experience of meeting Jon Dobbel of Summit funding when the agent who listed the house I bought recommended him to me. Jon was very pleasant and professional when we talked and we reviewed the loan I wanted to use to purchase the home we had decided on. Jon then quoted me a rate for the loan along with the points on the loan and the rebate from the lender as it was a FHA loan. I got off the phone with him and thought it seemed a bit higher than I was seeing on other websites but he had said it was the best rate possible I could find anywhere. The next morning I decided to try one other lender before moving forward with Jon...I choose Quicken Loans and their offer was way way lower than the rate quoted by JON...the Points I had to pay were way less and the rebate I would get back from them was almost 4 times more cash in my pocket!! I called Jon back and said I had found a much better rate and could he come close to matching it so we could do business...his reply was he was offended and he didn't know I was going to go shopping for other rates and sounded very unhappy with me....he said he would get back to me with his better rates and hung up...the next day I got a message on my voice mail from him saying he said he does not to do business with people like me that shop around for a better rate!!! The deal I got from Quicken Loans saved me almost $10,000 in additional rebates and points over Summits offer and another $10,000 savings on the interest rate differences over the course of the loan. So on a simple $387,000 loan I saved almost $20.000 over the rate and fee's Jon Dobbel quoted me and said that was his best deal and a great rate!!! I found Jon to be dishonest and rude and quite unprofessional once I questioned his rates and fee's. WARNING SHOP THIS COMPANY'S RATES AND FEE'S BEFORE YOU DO BUSINESS WITH THEM AND ESPECIALLY JON!! read more

Beware. Don't be fooled by the marketing and feel good tactics. A loan is about one thing, getting the lowest rate possible with the least amount of fees possible. Use summit and that will not happen. You will pay excessive fees. They are nice at first but after they hook you in service drops dramatically. There are a lot of complexities and traps in this industry and summit (as well as a lot of other brokers) take advantage of this. Your probably better of going to a traditional bank or mortgage banker. Learn from my mistake and stay away. read more

Hands down Greg Stillwell is the best you can get, he even came to my signing and I am all the way in Vacaville. The title company said in all her 23 years only one time did she see the Lender show up. My closing fees were next to nothing, my realtor was shocked and thought he was kidding! He took all my calls, even on the weekends and helped me understand my debt ratio, ways to save on the lifetime of my loan, how to repair my credit and so on. I would advertise for this man for free whatever company he is with. I am not crediting Summit although I hear they are great, I am crediting Greg. I just successfully closed my first loan with Summit and could not be more impressed. Right from the outset Greg Stillwell was highly professional, knowledgeable, transparent and extremely responsive which I appreciated as that's not always the case these days where everyone are so busy.
