- A lot of healing comes just from being understood. We are all important, even if we don’t always feel that way. So being seen, accepted for who we are, can create the space for us to get clarity, understand, accept, and make choices that lead us to a better path.
- For many of us this isn’t quite enough. We need a better, more in depth way of healing that gets to deeper roots - that changes the impact on us of our past, sometimes traumatic experiences.
- Enter EMDR therapy. It’s an approach to seeing how we get stuck with negative views about ourselves or the world (I’m not safe. I’m not good enough, and so on). And it’s a way of helping our own brain process past experiences in such a way that they no longer affect us. We use it for trauma and PTSD, but I find it invaluable for a variety of problems, ranging from anxiety to low self-esteem.
- Couples Therapy: As a therapist, I help you really listen to each other and feel heard by each other, while also accessing the loving feelings and appreciation that brought you together in the first place. Once we get that going for you in our meetings, I’ll invite you to try it at home, increasingly, ‘till we all know you’ve got this. My goal, like any good therapist, is to get myself out of a job as quickly, but as solidly as possible, so when we’re done it’ll be a happy, successful good-bye.
