Ice cream bar was super yummy!

While we were exploring Torvehallerne in Copenhagen, Denmark we came upon Summerbird. Apparently, this place specializes in chocolate. I am not a big chocolate fan, but my wife wanted to try their goods. She was especially intrigued because they advertised that everything was organic. Organic chocolate does sound intriguing. I was given one of their chocolates to sample. Wow, it was rich! I was a bit overwhelmed by the chocolate taste. I am certain a real chocolate expert can appreciate the difference. My wife loved her Vanilla ice cream bar dipped in their delicious chocolate. I had a bite of it, and I liked it also. Summerbird makes worthy chocolates. So if you want to try yummy chocolate from Denmark, then try Summerbird! They are organic too!

I had to try a flødboller while in Copenhagen and Summerbird fit the bill for where I would try my first one and this location was right by were I was staying. From what I understand, what makes a good flødboller is combination of the appearance, the chocolate, the cream, the base, and how all these components work together. I went with their basic one as a point of reference to start with. Aside from the shape (you know what it looks like), the appearance was clean, smooth, and elegant. The chocolate was good, the cream was light and fluffy, but the base was too thin and I was hoping for some kind of crispness to balance with the softness of the chocolate and cream, but it wasn't there. Overall, the flavor was not my favorite, but I would try other varieties in the future. Service was nice and the location is great within the Torvehallerne market. It is worth a visit.

I LOVE chocolates...so I always love trying different types of chocolates from other countries and seeing how they differ in taste, texture, and design. I was introduced to Summerbird by the food walking tour I did while visiting Copenhagen. While I don't think of Denmark as a country that produces amazing chocolates, I was certainly keen to try. This place uses organic chocolates in combination with different flavours. They sell items such as chocolate covered almonds with various flavours such as coffee, toffee, mango, passion fruit, raspberry, and lemon grass. You can also find Truffles filled with different ganache and marzipan. They also sell the famous chokokisses which is basically a chocolate filled with a very delicate filling quite similar to marshmallow. I wouldn't say this is as marshmallow covered chocolate because it's delicate and much more complex than a marshmallow. It comes in various flavours including passion fruit and liquorice...Danish folks love the liquorice flavour so you can find many types of chocolates with it. The chocolate I tried were good in their own right and I can see how this company has begun making its mark in the chocolate world. They have mix different flavours you'd never guess could be combined with chocolate like lemon grass and liquorice. The prices of their products are high as you would find from any proper chocolatier. The chocolate covered almonds I bought was about 45 DKK (£5) or 135 DKK (£15) for 3. The assorted chocolates filled with caramel and marzipan with 8 pieces I bought was also about 135 DKK (£15). I think this is a great place to buy gift for people to take back if your in Denmark since their chocolates are good with creative flavours you normally won't find anywhere. Their packaging is sleek, trendy and sophisticated and I'm sure anyone getting chocolates from this place would be thrilled. Word of caution though, the chokokisses don't travel well and can burst

I was curious but hesitant since we were already in a rush. The group I was with encouraged me to go treat myself. Best. Impulse stop. EVER. Hotel Chocolat is a British chain of cocoa bar-cafés with locations all over the UK as well as in Denmark (here in Copenhagen), Japan, Hong Kong, and New York. And it does seem like they have different TYPES of locations? But modern, high-end feeling chocolate shop in the front and café in the back. It's set up with a clean design that's very photogenic/Instgramable. They have a variation of chocolates made from cacao beans from Ecuador to Indonesia and a café that serves all kinds of mostly chocolate-y drinks and desserts. And for all the jokes about me being obsessed with chocolate, everyone was pretty involved in browsing through this store. I got the "Ice Cream of the Gods", which is a very soft serve in a cone and the option for either a chocolate or a salted caramel drizzle. And it's so GOOD. Even my dad, who was skeptical about spending money on something so simple, said it was worth it after having a taste. Translated from Chinese, the consensus was that it you could really taste the milk, which made it sweetly rich rather than richly sweet. We also happened to be there between the times they were switching out samples, so we got to try the Billionaire Shortbread Chocolate Selector (caramel, cookies, and hazelnut) and a dark chocolate bit that I didn't get the name of. In hindsight, I deeply regret that I didn't get the Billionaire Sundae, a dessert based on their Billionaire Shortbread Chocolate Selector truffle. Overall, super nice and really wish we could have hung around longer, even sit down and try out more menu items. If nothing else, drop in for a free sample, but just from what I tasted, I'd say it's worth it to make this a short stop. It's definitely on my list for the next time I'm back in Copenhagen or even London. That ice cream just made me really happy...

We bought some small samples and everybody ordered an ice cream. I would normally just take a few bites out of my wife's cone because I get nauseous after about half a cone. It's just too sweet and rich. But, she insisted on no sharing this time because she wanted the whole thing to herself. So, she ordered a rather large cone for me alone. They were right. It was not super sugary like other ice cream. The lady behind the counter said the only sugar came from the milk itself. I finished the whole cone without feeling like I'd just had a tub of butter/cream. We were only in town for a week, but managed to come back to this place for seconds. And I had another cone to myself.
