As soon as I walked in the morning food attendant--maybe Pakistani or West Indian scram at me. He asked me what I wanted in a loud voice. Then I told him my order and he demanded payment right away before making my order. I informed him that usually you make the order first then you pay, once the order is at the cash--not before the foods made. He replied--if you can't pay get out! Mind you I am well educated and that day I was wearing new clothes. I take pride in my appearance and dress well. As a new guy came in, he was able to order food no problem without paying. The next guy ordered a few items without paying and waited patiently for his food. This behavior is unacceptable and discriminatory. I could sue for discrimination.

NOTE: The police was called over 30 hours later, over a day later, because I felt something must be documented. The police said that they did not find sufficient evidence to lay charges. The creep and his employers would have had sufficient time to fix their story, which they did. The statement given was that I misinterpreted what he meant. It was that he said he was simply attempting to pay it forward. It was that he thought I was in need of money. It was that he was 'directing' me out because of Covid-19. It was that he looked at me just like he looked at the cops. Which person goes into an establishment with their supposedly last $10 to buy a meal from a relatively expensive place for a homeless person? I specifically told him my purpose as soon as I entered the place since the gentleman had asked for a very specific type of soup which I had never heard of nor did I ever know that they sold soup. Would he have mumbled that the manager was not there and gone into the back as soon as stood up for myself if I had not stood up or if he hadn't done anything? Further, what I just realized is that Sultan Shawarma and Falafel has already gone to other establishments around the area with their tale because I went into another food joint a few doors down a short while ago and the two men who run the joint immediately and pointedly paused in their tasks, looked keenly at me, made long eye contact with each other, and then verbally communicated with each other that it was me. I think that more than anything, this makes me see the messed up nature of many things. I cannot begin to imagine what this would do to a teenaged girl had she been in my place. Two male officers were deployed. I told them that this why women don't come forward. People, teach our young men to do the right thing and teach our young women to speak up while firmly letting them know that you will always have their backs. This is the only way to reduce the possibility of these kinds of creeps attempting to try anything of this or other nature, and it's the only way in which we can hope for a safe society where no girl, in the middle of the day or at anytime, in the middle of the city of all places, has to feel fear of entering a public place and being propositioned by some grown man who feels confident in the thought that she will be fearful or shamed for speaking up. have just had an experience here that no one should. About 30 minutes ago, I went into Sultan Shawarma & Falafel to purchase a serving of soup and a bottle of orange juice for an elderly homeless man who sits right at the corner as you walk across out of Main Street subway. The guy who is right there now in the store serving started to intensely ogle at me from the time I entered, running his eyes all over. Not that it should matter, but I am completely covered with regular long jeans- no rips or what not, my high neck and below the waist t-shirt, and a long sleeved denim jacket. This creep proceeds to tell me that I don't need to pay for this meal today or for any other in the future. "You want money, you want food, you come to me anytime, no matter, I give you everything." This was said as he was scanning me pointedly over and over. I even said, "sorry, what do you mean?" and he repeated it! I then informed him that I am a teacher and I did not appreciate what he just did. I asked to speak to the manager and he says that he was the only one there. I said that I will wait. A customer came in and I asked him why not repeat it in front of the customer. He proceeded to leave the counter and push me out of the establishment. I protested and pushed him away. He then took my food and placed it on the ground in front of the store, came back and physically began pushing me out with force. I asked him to stop and I asked him for my money. He threw $5 at me then a $2 coin when I said the meal cost more. He then told me not to come back. I have nothing against the food of this place. I've bought from here before. However, this guy needs to be fired and certainly, these people need to have more mannered people working there. They need to treat customers with respect. I asked him if he would have treated me the same if I went in with a hijab. He never responded. Parents, be wary of sending your kids here. A daytime pervert and possibly molestor works here! Go see him. If this can happen to me then surely your daughters and sons are at risk. read more

It was just a regular old Wednesday hump day so I thought I'd be in and out quickly but this place was busy! There was a line when we got there, one when we left, and frequent visits by food delivery drivers (Uber, Skip The Dishes). The service was a little bit slow because they were interweaving a lot of orders together so it might not be the best idea if you're in a rush. One kind of funny moment was when we asked for no onions which the employee acknowledged, then proceeded to throw them on, but then quickly rectified their mistake. They told us it's the muscle memory kicking in. They are also cash and debit card payment only. The prices are actually very good for the quantity of food that you get. Their number 6 combo is two shawarmas for $10.99 and they are massive...the size of a golden retriever's head. Yes, an odd comparison but I noticed the similarity in size when my dog was begging me for a bite. You can get chicken, beef, or mixed as a choice for any shawarma order. They were very generous with the meat and with the sauce which is key and very tasty, especially the garlic sauce. The best bites were really the ones that had a bit of everything - sauce, veggies, and meat. One of the combos that we got came with a side of fries. These were fresh out of the fryer and managed to survive a ~15 minute drive home and were still very crispy. Amazing indeed!
