It was intimidating at first - I learned to move my body in unfamiliar ways, and was introduced to a lot of people when I was actually pretty shy and unnerved. Fast forward two years - I've lost 70 pounds, I'm an upper intermediate student, and I can't wait to get to class four days a week. I have taken control of my life, taken responsibility and accountability for my personal health, and have learned the power of meditation through karate and how to channel my healing into this physical art. This isn't your typical dojo - we are not a combat spot - oriented school. We are an all-inclusive community with students of all genders, religions, sexualities, physical fitness levels, formative experiences, and ages. We do learn martial arts and we do learn how to spar, but we also learn martial arts as a form of meditation, and how to use the principles in karate to improve our everyday lives and the lives of those around us. I'm a lifer now, and my best friends all train with me and understand me. This is my family, and I'm forever grateful that my friends ushered me in the door two years ago.

Some of the perks: Never overcrowded,…read moreno waits for machines (and there is a lot of variety), courteous and helpful front desk staff, top notch instructors (Pilates, HITT, yoga, cycle, all types of strength classes and many more), an amazing acupuncturist on site as well as excellent massage and physical therapists. Check it out- there is always some kind of special going on! Just ask.

It's a full gym offering a variety of classes, equipment, and wellness spa, the best part it has been locally owned for 22 years. Castle Hill isn't the prettiest or shiniest gym. She's funky and oddly shaped and full of good energy. As a VIP member you get unlimited group classes! Including Pilates with reformer, towers, and chairs! Plus yoga. Strength training classes. Rebounders. It's all here. I've never seen any other gym anywhere offer so much. Also, the members take care of this place, wiping down equipment, they don't use harsh chemicals either, it's essential oils so the place has a light hint of pine in the air. Also, towel service in included. Although, castle hill fitness isn't the prettiest gym, she has the most heart, I don't feel like a piece of meat in there, and it's kept clean. Def a fan of this place; the staff, and the value.

I highly recommend this dojo to anyone who wants the benefits of physical fitness, practice in mental awareness, calmness, and discipline as well as legitimate self-defense training within a of community fun and supportive people. The vibe is great, very welcoming, down to Earth, and inclusive. The location is also excellent, just off South Lamar 70704, with convenient class times on weekday mornings and Saturdays. And moreover, monthly membership fees are very reasonable! Soon I will attain my first degree blackbelt in Ki Aikido with this group and I plan to keep training with them for the rest of my life. Prior to beginning to practice with AKA, I trained at other Ki Aikido dojos as well as in another related Aikido style. All Aikido flavors are solid for those seeking mental and physical wellness, but my experience with other dojos and styles has shown me that practicing Ki Aikido with AKA is the best option in Texas, 100%. There is no doubt that AKA is offering the best Aikido practice in Austin!

I've been severely out of shape since Covid because the gyms shut down, and I didn't feel safe going into a gym once they did open up. He focused on technique above power, which was really important to me because I came in knowing absolutely nothing and of course I don't want to get injured. Now if anyone were to put me in a threatening position, I know I can knee them in the head, teep them, and/or give them a nice punch to the liver. I feel more confident in my abilities, and I feel like I have a healthier, better body.
