She is not a physician to go to if you are expecting a pity party. She will tell you like it is. If you are making unhealthy choices, she will get to the bottom of them and hold you accountable. While that works for me, it does not work for everyone. Her office staff are helpful and knowledgeable and I have never had a problem scheduling an appointment, but I have had to wait 30 minutes for a scheduled appointment. That drives me crazy!

Till a friend referred me to Dr. Lamar. She impressed me since the first visit... Detail oriented, professional yet personable. But she truly came through when she had to pull records from different doctors and institutions... She was phenomenal in coordinating my care and very prompt referring me to specialists. Her receptionist, Terry, is great too. She follows up, passes messages to the doctor and calls you back to communicate when a task is completed. A huge difference compared to PAMF where all you are allowed to do is leaving messages on an answering machine for the nurse on call. If you are looking for a doctor for which your health is as important as it is for you, Doctor Lamar is your doctor.

Some have argued she has the time to do these things because she doesn't take insurance and charges you for time spent. This is true. However, it's worth it to me to have at least one doctor who understands the full me, and I don't mind paying for it. She has done a wonderful job of tracking my nutritional deficiencies and helping me rectify them, and helping me manage my hypothyroidism. Today I am feeling better than I ever have before in both of those departments. What I love about her most is that she will discuss any problem I am having and doesn't stick to her endocrinology "silo." She keeps in contact with my doctors, too, so they know what is happening with me. I appreciate that I don't need to make a separate appointment to ask my primary care doctor about say, a question with my ear. During the pandemic, she has been doing a lot of phone visits, which is great. I hope she continues this into the future so I don't have to trek from San Jose to Los Altos to see her and discuss lab results.

I wish they'd tell you when you're lab numbers are off and what the concern is, rather than making you wait another two or three months for an appointment to get the lab results! I've gone through months of worry wondering what was wrong, only to finally get in there and be told all looks fine (then pay another $250! She doesn't bill insurance and wants payment in full on each visit). As a patient you have to be proactive here and call and call to get appointments, lab results, etc. The office will not call you, even to let you know they have your lab results. For as many years as I've gone to see Dr. Thomas each time she behaves as though we're meeting for the first time wanting all my history again and again! "Who diagnosed your fibromyalgia?" "You did Doctor, 6 years ago" Even "Who diagnosed Hashimotos?" when she's been treating me for it for years!! Scary! She seems very preoccupied. She's very old school in terms of treating Hashimoto's and auto-immune disease. She doesn't like prescribing NDTs, doesn't believe in or know how to treat other complications of having an autoimmune disease, like the fatigue, tissue damage or joint pain or how to keep inflammation in check. Glad we're in agreement now after exchanging numerous emails on the topic that got me nowhere. She offered to have me come back in for free wellness visit with her or her assistant so we could do a thorough checkup. I appreciated the gesture but declined. I still have a covered wellness visit through my insurance since this visit wasn't billed correctly. I want to select a new primary physician that I can work with on any health concerns I might have and know I am in good hands. The other aspect of this that was really offensive is that Sutter East Bay has reps that are supposed to help you with these types of conflicts. I spoke with a woman named Wendy who was going to help me resolve this situation. She was worse than the doctor in fighting me on resolving this and acknowledging my valid concerns. When we first spoke of the visit coded as Insomnia and I said it was allergy med related, she then said something about me having sinus issues which I don't. These are examples of the SPIN that can happen and how the healthcare system can work against you and twist what you say. Luckily I don't accept that approach and I will share my perspective repeatedly until my point is made. But the "resolution" reps need much more training as well if they're comprising a customer outreach program to support resolution and positive PR for Sutter East Bay. On a positive note, Amy Green, a Media Services Coordinator of Sutter East Bay, reached out after I wrote this review to see if she could provide assistance and I appreciated that. This ordeal is now over for me. Dr. Beazlie-Walker stated she'd provide more transparency to patients going forward about the parameters of wellness visits and be more thorough in her exams. I find that I generally do not like female physicians. In fact whenever my husband suggests that I…read morevisit a doctor of this gender I cringe inwardly. However, Dr. White is an exception to this. I actually like her quite a lot. She is a very knowledgeable and caring doctor as well as being pleasant in personality and demeanor. She appears to be passionate about what she does for a living and I always believe this is important when selecting a doctor because there really are too many who are not. I chose to see Dr. White for two reasons. The first is to manage my thyroid issues. The second is because I would like to have a seventh child and would like her to assist me with managing my nutrition and blood sugars prior to conception and during pregnancy rather than going to Obstetrix in San Jose. Most doctors can mange thyroid problems so an endocrinologist is not a must. I have previously seen an endocrinologist in San Jose who closed her practice and moved to another state. She was nice but seemed to care more about creating repeated appointments than the issues she was treating. I have had family doctors in the past who tested a couple times a year and managed my prescriptions just fine. I have also had my obgyn manage my prescription as well. They were all adequate but I do believe that Dr. White is more knowledgeable and concerned about dosing the medications than most doctors are. Dr. White explained very thoroughly about the dose of medications and all the things that might affect if/when my dose will need to be changed. In the past most doctors preferred to stick with whatever dose the particular pills come in even if it might be slightly more or less than what I need. This is not the case with Dr. White. She is meticulous about getting the right dose even if that means breaking up pills or taking extra or fewer pills to get the correct amount. I think this is rather refreshing because the dose being off even slightly can result in unpleasant symptoms that can be a part of the condition. I also appreciate that she is not concerned with the number of appointments that a patient has but rather just what it takes to give the treatment a patient needs. This is especially important for me because I am traveling quite a distance for these appointments. She is also not stingy with her time. My appointments were quite lengthy and well over what I have ever had with any doctor previously and I greatly appreciated the time she spent and the quality and thoughtfulness of the advice. As I am working to prepare my body for another pregnancy it is important for me to plan for care regarding my blood sugars and potential gestational diabetes. In the past I have had incredibly unpleasant care from Obstetrix in San Jose and after the last pregnancy I knew I would never go back to that place again. Dr. White has demonstrated far more professionalism in two visits regarding the issues of nutrition, dietary advice, and blood sugar monitoring than I have ever received during several pregnancies with Obstetrix. She was pleasantly easy to work with and gave constructive advice in a positive way without ever being condescending. She is far more knowledgeable than the staff at Obstretrix to be sure. I am certain that she will be a wonderful fit for my care during my future pregnancies and that is a huge relief. I would very much recommend her to others and anyone not happy with the Sweet Success program at Obstetrix in San Jose.

During my first appointment, Dr. White sat down with me to get all of my medical history, did an exam, and talked with me about what our goal would be moving forward... it took nearly an hour. It was so nice to have a doctor spend that much time with me. My second visit probably took just as long and was spent going over lab results, of which she gave me my very own copy and explained in detail what all the numbers meant. You can tell she has a genuine concern for her patient's health and their knowledge. Dr. White let me know up front that she is not one of those doctors who will make adjustments to your care without you understanding why. As a person who asks a lot of questions and wants to know all the details about my meds or insulin pump settings, I really love that about her. She is so hands-on with her approach to patient care, she's even personally called me twice. I have never had a doctor call me for any reason... it's usually a nurse or receptionist. Speaking of nurses and receptionists, this office employs the nicest ladies ever! The time spent in the waiting room is also a pleasant surprise, taking on average about five minutes. Believe me, after moving five times since being diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, I've frequented plenty of doctors offices and none have been as welcoming and friendly as this one. They also work closely with UCSF for specialist and this is very important to me. Appointments start on time, and I have always found (metered) parking within 1 block of the office. If you are doing lab work that your insurance does not cover, ask them about your options so you can save on your lab fees.
