I was a hair model for a lovely gentlemen who was getting his "floor" approval so he could work on clients. He had great technique and was so kind. Initially the hair was just a bit too bright, and Paul gladly re-toned it a bit darker, which I was happy with. My appointment ended after the sun had set, so it wasn't until the next day that I saw my hair in natural light. When I finally did, it came across to me as pretty brassy. I lived with it for a few days to see if I could grow to like it, but ultimately I decided to call the salon and see if they would bring me in to tone it again. I even asked about cost, I was not expecting to get it done for free. They never followed up after I called the first time (Inthey needed to check with a manager who would be working the next day). I finally called again to follow up, had to reexplain to the receptionist, and they told me they would message their manager and get back to me. It has now been about a week and I still haven't heard back. I ended up buying some Natural Instincts from Shoppers and toning it down myself, so I am happy now. I just wish it had been handled a bit better by the salon. Still, would recommend Paul (I believe he works at the Surrey location, but I saw him at the W 1st location!) read more

I booked my appointment with stylist Kathleen 2 weeks ago. I called the receptionist informing her that I'am running late today, she said there shouldn't be an issue if you're 15 minutes late. Then I receive a call from suki's within 15 minutes after my conversation with her , informing me that Kathleen has a client who is having her colour done and that if i can make it to the salon right now . I was shocked because I just talked to her stating that I'm running late. And also it would take me about 20- 30 minutes to drive to the salon from home. I had an event to attend and was looking forward to having my hair done. This would have been my second visit to Suki's . Today I was really disappointed that the staff at Suki's didn't respect client's time. If your client booked an appointment 2 weeks in advance how do you justify your actions. I will be taking my business elsewhere and hope your staff learn to schedule accordingly in the future and learn to manage their time better. Even though your staff wanted me to come in and see a senior stylist , I would have preferred that my appointment be with the person I booked with 2 weeks ago. read more

Nazneen did a fantastic job on my hair, you should definitely go to her. When my spouse proposed that I get my already short hair cut, I felt hesitant. Short hair is a difficult style to master. Before the cut, I had no idea exactly what type of haircut I wanted, but Nazeen blew me away. She was quite particular about cutting each and every strand to the desired length. She made me feel special and ensured that I was at ease the entire time. Finally, she smiled and asked, "Are you happy?" Hey! I was all smiles much before the final hair setting. If you're looking for someone you can put your trust in, who will treat you and your hair with care, is calm, and pays attention to the smallest details, go no further. Simply amazing. You must see Suzie and her assistant Maryam for color. Sandra for blow outs! I came here literally right after having an unfortunate experience at another location. I spoke with two receptionists over the phone when I was booking - they were both so kind and accommodating. It was literally so last minute! Same day and went in about 2 hours after I called. The master colourist Suzie was so informative, patient, knowledgeable, understanding, I mean I can go on for too long lol. Me being the type of person who sucks at explaining, she took her time to understand what I wanted and shared what she recommended based on what I was looking for. She made me feel very comfortable to ask questions so I can feel confident about the appointment. I honestly didn't even care how my hair turned out. I was just so grateful for their service that made me feel so calm and at ease. Suzie's assistant Maryam was very attentive and kind. She did a very thorough shampoo and I felt so clean! She also did this light back of the neck massage and I was like ommaaaagadd this feels so nice LOL. She followed Suzie's instructions and toned my hair so beautifully! They both checked up on how I felt about the outcome when I was getting a blow out. It felt very genuine - not just a courtesy check up. Omg and my blowout with Sandra was also amazing. I only ever trusted Chris @ the Burrard Location and never thought I could find anyone else to do a gorgeous blow out but wow I did today! She was so easy to talk and connect with. She kindly kept me in check when I was being impulsive and wanted to do something I know I would regret right now lol (get bangs). All in all my hair came out AMAZING! Everyone here is so genuine! I'm going to a black tie wedding tmrw and took a huge risk colouring my hair before the event. So glad I did though. I'm forever a customer at this location. Mai (too bad she's leaving for Australia) and Candace are the best. All of the colourists are pretty good, too. Be careful if you get an apprentice to style your hair, though. They take forever and don't always know what they are doing. Still, at $25 with tip it's less than the $50 for a stylist (without a cut!) They are a spendy place, and not very trendy, but they do an amazing job, which is why I have been going here on and off since 1990, when I met Suki herself (who incidentally, has since moved to LA). read more

Oh, Suki's. Long ago, when I was still in high school, they were responsible for chopping off my long not-so-beautiful locks. My mom got tired of looking at a banshee and decided that it was time for a bob. I resisted as much as I could but it became apparent that it was futile. The result wasn't as bad as I had anticipated but I was still unhappy at the idea of not being able to hide behind my hair. I re-visited the place a bit more recently and had a much more positive experience. They listened closely to what I wanted and didn't pressure me into buying their products. read more

When I graduated from getting my hair cut at "Great Clips"-type places in high school, I choose to come to Suki's. It was located in a coveted area of Vancouver, it looked super high fashion, and I was young.... Not to say I didn't like Suki's. It was great while my relationship lasted with the place, but I moved on. I didn't like the lack of listening on the part of the stylist. When I said I wanted a trim, that DIDN'T mean 4 inches and super layers!!! Of course, it's not that I didn't like what I looked like everytime I left the salon - but then again, EVERYONE looks good the day they get their hair done... Stylists need to learn that their customers ARE NOT stylists, and do not have an hour in the morning to play with their hair. In my opinion, hair should be easy to maintain and control - and Suki's didn't give me this luxury. read more

At the initial consultation Christina knew exactly what I wanted and took the extra time to make sure my haircut and style was perfect. When I finally decided to chop off my long fried locks and get a bob I spent a lot of time researching on yelp to find a good salon. When I saw Suki's won best salon in the Georgia straight I called the one in Kits because it was by my office. The receptionist was super friendly and when I explained what I wanted she suggested I go with Amy. When I got there I was offered a drink right away (which I love) and then got an awesome scalp massage before my cut. Amy was fantastic (I hope she sees this)!! After the consult with the color specialist she quotes my job at $120.00 hmmmm not sure where the extra $25.00 comes from, just because my job was simple bleach..and tone...no foils. I went to Suki's in Kits for an updo. I asked for a simple, loose knot. The inexperienced stylist completely DESTROYED my hair. It will take at least one year to grow out the extensive breakage and damage. The 'stylist" back-combed my hair causing my hair to break. To make matters even worse she used a curling wand that had some gooey product on it...she tried to scrape it out of my hair which caused more breakage and damage. I went in there with very healthy, shiny, easy to manage hair and left with extensive breakage, very damaged, coarse hair that is extremely difficult to manage and looks awful. The updo wasn't good as well! A complete disaster. Be careful if you go there for an updo or consider somewhere else that have experienced stylists that won't have you leave with destroyed hair. I can't speak for all the stylists at Suki's, but if you have curly hair, do not go to Krystal to cut your hair. I showed her a photograph of my previous haircut, and asked her to do the same. I asked her not to take off any more length than necessary, because with curly hair, it will curl out of control. So ok, on the sides of my head (read: where I could see what she was doing), it's roughly the right length. The hair on the back of my head is about 2" long, which translates into an complete mess. I went from being able to style my hair once ever two or three days, to having to do it daily to control the heap she has left me with. She "styled" my hair straight after the cut as I asked for, but it was the worst straightening job I've ever paid for. And the best news? I will have to look at this mess for the next five months as I wait for it to grow out to something I can have recut. And yes, she did know I was getting this haircut because I am going on vacation - guess I won't be appearing in my own vacation pictures. She does cut my mom's short wavy hair well. But she utterly failed with my meant-to-be-shoulder-length-hair-that-doesn't-quite-reach-my-chin. Curly haired people beware, find someone else. I have been coming to Sukis Kitsilano for about 9 years. The staff is always friendly and helpful but the reason I keep coming back is because of my stylist, Aurelie. Aurelie is professional, fun and extremely talented! I have fine, thin hair and she manages to cut it and style it in ways I did not think were possible! The most important part about my haircuts from Aurelie is that they make me feel good and I can recreate the styles once I get home. Because of Aurelie's vast knowledge of different hair types, my step-daughter and 4 of my friends now have Aurelie as their regular stylist. She is amazing! read more

The Salon is a wonderful space and it's conveniently located. They discourage you from adding a tip to your credit card and want you to use cash. I went to get my hair coloured and at every turn was told that I could not get what I wanted.They work hard to manage your expectations at this salon. I felt as though I had to really stand up to get what I wanted and unfortunately I was still disappointed when I left the salon. The colourist was supposed to be experienced and just refused to do what I asked. It was super frustrating being told that I couldn't get what I wanted when I know perfectly well that it's simply a question of time and chemistry. read more

Visited Suki's on Granville Street today for the 1st time in 20+ years... Suki was there and looking absolutely lovely despite apologizing for not having make-up on. She is so gracious. My cutter was Joyce, whom I requested after reading recent yelp reviews. Sure enough she is darling, pleasant, listens closely, and tries to fulfill all your requests. She explains what she is doing and checks in with you throughout the process. I will look forward to my next appointment with her. She mentioned that you get one free trim of your bangs between cuts, so I will definitely take advantage of this as well. read more
