You will notice a theme here. She stopped doing it last 3 years or so but on every platform Google and Yelp etc Lashawn will respond to negative reviews cursing them out talking about she don't need to post regular business hours and she can do whatever she wants. All true, but that's the issue. She can make good food, but it is not in any way shape nor form worth the terrible attitude that comes with it, she is not doing anyone a favor by having a business and I think she should just go back to selling bagged meals from her project like she used to do. I screenshot the messages SHE initiated and sent to ME through yelp and they removed them probably because of HER language, I only responded with foul language to combat her own. In one message to me she bragged about still being on welfare because that makes her smart (I blame trump for making fraud acceptable) $151 for a 5 bedroom townhouse she says and "dumb dumbs wish they were as smart as me" she says in one message. I don't think it's much of a flex to be bragging about how you work the system, and it gives talking points to evil republicans who want to take it away from those who really do need and depend on a social safety net. The owners criminal is extensive but has been keeping her nose clean for the past few years save the acknowledged fraud. I imagine running your business in the red every year is one way to stay on welfare and not have to be responsible. I was in one day when either the owner or her man's car was getting hooked up by the truck of repossession agent and oh lord have mercy was that a show to be seen!! I only wish I had the recording of it still but it was so long ago I don't want to look it up. TBH if she would just cook and avoid customer services altogether the place wouldn't be a place where I don't want to spend my money because of the type of person it goes to.. Remember the famous Seinfeld episode with a guy who made amazing soups but was so rude and ran it like a camp? Well this is the exact same thing but with soul food. It's like a prison canteen but with good food and the owner is the lady warden to prepare your food but ensure you don't enjoy eating it. The biggest mistake anyone can make here is going in with intention of exchanging money for prepared food read more

We ordered food for my sister in laws retirement party, and it was amazing! SuggarPlums is the place if you are serious about serving real soul food nothing out of a can all from scratch!! there was absolutely no food left over. The macaroni & cheese, collard greens, yams and rice makes you wanna slap somebodies mama! if you haven't been there to eat stop wasting time and go!!!!!!!! Thank you LaChonne for making our event super special! I will be recommending and continue to use you again! Kareem Ali's Aunt Yvette read more

SuggarPlums is hands down one of the absolute best Soul Food spots in the County. I love the oxtails for one but truly, I can't get enough of whatever She has cooking. Shrimp same feeling. Tried this place again but got the smothered chicken platter. The smothered chicken had a great taste, great portion, I really enjoyed them. Not too much gravy, not too little. I got two sides of Mac and cheese because I enjoyed it so much last time. However, this time, it tasted off, oily, not fresh. The corn bread was also inedible because it was so undercooked. read more

The food is great they need to open a place in White Plains we need some real real good soul food

My mom and I had lunch here today. I read the reviews last night before I went. The food was good. My mom had Oxtails, Cabbage, Mac & Cheese she said the oxtails taste good and they were tender and she liked the sides as well. I had the Catfish, and same sides my food was good as well but I gave my Mac & cheese to my mom because it was cheesier than I'd like but she loves a lot of cheese. The staff were young but very nice and respectful. There was no table service but there are tables if you choose to eat in which we did. I will return and I do recommend this restaurant. read more

I thought the overall taste of the food I ordered was just okay. The potato salad was sweet and the mac n cheese had strong mustard flavor, not to my liking. The shrimp was not bad but greasy. I've been looking at the other reviews and it seems the owner pays a blind eye and does not appreciate their customer's input. I am very fond of another soul food restaurant in New Rochelle. read more

I went here yesterday with my family for Juneteenth and the older woman handling the register was NASTY! I ordered the special on social media. When I was going to pay for my food the check was a bit high and asked for a break down and why. The woman said don't you pay taxes this is the cost! I asked to pay with apple pay and she was so rude, unpleasant and so combative! I am the customer paying and can ask questions. I think someone like that should never be so aggressive and nasty. Your running a restaurant and customers should always be treated nicely, fairly and with respect. A simple explanation or conversation would have be suffice. SAD THAT THIS IS HOW YOU RUN YOUR BUSINESS!!!!! WOUKLD NEVER RETURN!!!!!! read more

This is exactly what I mean by customer service. I write a review about the restaurant and the quality of service, usually a manager or owner would apologize for the bad experience or what can they can do to improve. But this owner talks about me blasting about my disability and about my wife's size (when the owner herself isn't on the small size). This owner was talking about my appearance not knowing that I am legally disabled. There was nothing really wrong with the food but the lack of customer service there is appalling. If this business owner took it to a personal level, which is unprofessional; their business will not last long. An owner is suppose to take responsibility for what the establishment lacks and if she can attack you on a personal level imagine what she can do to others who does not like the restaurant. Why imagine when all you need to do is scroll down and see how she replies to others who didn't like her restaurant. read more

SuggarPlums - Catfish, mac and cheese and collard greens - Soul Food Near Me - New Rochelle, New York

Deeeeelicious! We heard about this place and had to try it. We normally travel from NJ to go to another soul food place in New Rochelle but due to limited seating we wanted to try this one since we heard it was great. It did not disappoint at all. The shrimp and chicken wings were seasoned well, crispy and tasty! Mac n cheese was very good and The seasoned rice (looks like red rice) was Delish. Potato salad gets an A+. Lastly, the cornbread tasted like cake it was so good. It's nice to know that there is another great spot in New Rochelle. We will definitely be coming back over and over again. read more

My family and I decided to use a voucher that I purchased for Suggarplums before it expired. No where on the voucher did it say that reservations had to be made nor did it say a time when the last table could sit. We arrived around 8:30 pm and walked in, while a group of women behind the counter tended to two patrons. No one acknlowledged us and they acted as though they were upset that we even walked in. Finally, someone approached and I asked if we could sit and we were told no. I told them I had a Groupon that expires Monday and whether or not I could get take out and was told yes until they learned it was for four people. I'm assuming the disgruntled woman who was answering the questions I directed towards the actual person who approached us, is the owner and she proceeded to question why we waited so long to use our voucher and that it had been four months. I am unsure why that would be any of her business; she needs not be informed of what happens in my life to prevent me from using a voucher and the vouchers are meant to be used during a range. I am unsure as to why the expiration date is on a day that they aren't even open. Today (07/30/15) should have been the expiration date for the Monday (again, I was told they're not even open Mondays and it is not stated on the voucher printout) through Thursday voucher option. They were rude and by the looks of their Yelp reviews, they have given a lot of grief to customers that visit with vouchers in tow. Even if I had an extra week, I would not return. This is basically the copy and pasted email I have already sent Groupon so as to receive a refund. As in the wise words of Miss Kimberly "Sweet Brown" Wilkins, "Ain't nobody got time for that!" Thank you and goodbye Time to add a bit more since this lady is replying to my review AND messaging me...harassment, much? I think her response to the review I just posted was faster than the acknowledgement of my son and I while we waited for my husband to park the car. I may have stepped in a few minutes after 8:30 and she's correct that 8:45 was when they acknowledged us. We walked in and stood. We displayed no attitude, despite the fact that these robust women seemed to stare us up and down; a fact that even my teenage son commented on. I am not the proprietor of their establishment and it is not my duty to greet the staff and make THEM feel welcome. Someone needs a lesson in hospitality. read more

This place has great homemade southern cuisine. My advice to you is to call ahead because there will be a lot of orders ahead of you. For dessert I recommend the banana pudding. It's also a great place to have a party or any other type of event read more

First, this food is legit, delicious fare. I have not had food like this since living down south. The yams and mac and cheese are amazing. I had fried chicken and it was so very good. I will try the short ribs next. Would you make breakfast, some biscuits and sausage gravy perhaps? I think this place needs more help. I don't know if they are ready to hire but it would be a blessing to this owner if she had two more competent people to help her. The owner is most likely the chef as well and is wearing five hats. I know what that is like. So please cut her some slack. The food is divine. My groupon expired and it was accepted for the amount I paid. Groupon needs to explain to novices how this works so they don't get caught unaware or feeling odd about the procedures. This lady is doing the best she can and boy can she cook. Amazing. They could use someone for front end to handle eat in orders and the counter to handle take out and phones. In sum, this food is delicious and I will patronize her business without a groupon. Nuff said. read more

Great place! Idky they have two $$ symbols this place is WORTH the price. Portions are pretty big and all meals come with a nice square of cornbread along with two hefty sides. The food is GOOOOD! The interior is a beautiful deep royal plum purple, updated booths, tables and chairs. Enough tables for a small/medium size crowd (30ppl). Food is made fresh to order so it takes a bit of time but its HOT N' FRESH! Good for a date but not too fancy. No plates or silverware. Everything is in a takeout clamshell. Check out the menu on their website https://suggarplumss.com Overall great experience! read more

Bf wanted to give Suggarplum restaurant another try, went there today Saturday March 2 @ 2PM (supposed to open at 12:30) and it was closed, we pulled on the door and so did another customer and nothing. Door locked and wooden chairs up. Sooo unprofessional. Cant say we didn't try. ****LOL point proven, take a look at the owners response to my reviews and other negative reviews! What business owner thinks like this?! A disrespectful, rude and unprofessional one. One that thinks they can open and close when they feel like it and thats good business. Whats more alarming is the fact ppl support this place and do not hold the owner accountable. They take poor service and verbal abuse. I bet her attitude would change if more ppl stopped going. read more

The food is delicious, but unfortunately the customer service is not up to par with regard to punctuality. On their website it is stated that they open at 1pm on Sundays. I waited in my car infront of the restaurant from 12:45pm till 1:30pm. Finally someone came walking up the hill and opened the door. The lights turned on in the building so I assumed they finally opened. But the door was still locked and the woman in the kitchen told me they will open at 3pm. 2 hours after the time listed on the internet. I finally left. And the phone never works when trying to call. If you're willing to wait for an unknown time for opening than you will enjoy the food. But if you're looking for the restaurant to be opened in a timely fashion this may not be the best spot. 11/6/22 read more

Food is very good I will be honest? However the service is EXTREMELY POOR. They need to be trained in food prep and expedition as well as general customer service skills. Waited an hour for a meal they said would be 20mins. Watched them disrespect customer. They also did not properly communicate to me that there was safely in my order. Then they had a worker come in on his day off with a large party and he took precedence over the customers who were already waiting, he himself was also disrespectful enraged in arguments with waiting customers. read more
