Smothered chicken platter - two sides of Mac and cheese

Tried this place again but got the smothered chicken platter. The smothered chicken had a great taste, great portion, I really enjoyed them. Not too much gravy, not too little. I got two sides of Mac and cheese because I enjoyed it so much last time. However, this time, it tasted off, oily, not fresh. The corn bread was also inedible because it was so undercooked.

My mom and I had lunch here today. I read the reviews last night before I went. The food was good. My mom had Oxtails, Cabbage, Mac & Cheese she said the oxtails taste good and they were tender and she liked the sides as well. I had the Catfish, and same sides my food was good as well but I gave my Mac & cheese to my mom because it was cheesier than I'd like but she loves a lot of cheese. The staff were young but very nice and respectful. There was no table service but there are tables if you choose to eat in which we did. I will return and I do recommend this restaurant.

I thought the overall taste of the food I ordered was just okay. The potato salad was sweet and the mac n cheese had strong mustard flavor, not to my liking. The shrimp was not bad but greasy. I've been looking at the other reviews and it seems the owner pays a blind eye and does not appreciate their customer's input. I am very fond of another soul food restaurant in New Rochelle.

This is exactly what I mean by customer service. I write a review about the restaurant and the quality of service, usually a manager or owner would apologize for the bad experience or what can they can do to improve. But this owner talks about me blasting about my disability and about my wife's size (when the owner herself isn't on the small size). This owner was talking about my appearance not knowing that I am legally disabled. There was nothing really wrong with the food but the lack of customer service there is appalling. If this business owner took it to a personal level, which is unprofessional; their business will not last long. An owner is suppose to take responsibility for what the establishment lacks and if she can attack you on a personal level imagine what she can do to others who does not like the restaurant. Why imagine when all you need to do is scroll down and see how she replies to others who didn't like her restaurant.

Deeeeelicious! We heard about this place and had to try it. We normally travel from NJ to go to another soul food place in New Rochelle but due to limited seating we wanted to try this one since we heard it was great. It did not disappoint at all. The shrimp and chicken wings were seasoned well, crispy and tasty! Mac n cheese was very good and The seasoned rice (looks like red rice) was Delish. Potato salad gets an A+. Lastly, the cornbread tasted like cake it was so good. It's nice to know that there is another great spot in New Rochelle. We will definitely be coming back over and over again.

Best soul food I've ever had. I ordered the fried chicken, potato salad and green beans. The fried chicken came hot and crispy. Best green beans! They had a spicy acidic kick. I will be back to try more of the menu.

Great food. I ordered fried chicken Mac and yams, also the shrimp with Mac and greens. The cornbread was the most moist I have ever eaten. I will definitely order again.

BBQ beef ribs, candy yams and Mac & cheese. Oh yes, and collards
    Selenia M.

What can I say? Everything on my plate was delicious. I called my order in on a Saturday night and by the time I got there it was ready. I had mac & cheese candy yams collard greens and barbecue beef ribs. Everything was phenomenal!

Because they literally go together. The Mac is cheesy and cooked exactly how I want it to taste. It sticks together and is never burnt on top. But I have tried the potato salad (a hit for sure), collard greens (seasoned to perfection), and the sweet potato fries (which I don't like, because I don't really care for a sweet potato fry. But they are steak cut and glazed with a sweet yet light glaze). As for the meats: I've had the fried catfish, catfish bites, beef ribs, fried chicken breast, baked chicken breast, fried chicken wings (BBQ & Jerk), and the salmon, crabcakes, and the ultimate feast. Oh and I've had their chicken strips. By far my favorite and frequently ordered are the catfish bites and chicken strips. Just know that this restaurant used to be a sit down intimate spot with a catering hall a few doors down. But since CoVid, it has become solely takeout and delivery by the apps. So, you won't get a full dining experience and will have to pay for a certain kind of packaging. For instance, if you don't want your food to touch or leak into other food the. Order separate packages and they will do it. This place has iced tea and lemonade that are divine. The customer service not be the absolute best if you walk in. The service and food, on the other hand, were quite a mixed bag. We ordered a margherita pizza, pancake tacos, steak and eggs, and French toast with a side of sausage--the pizza, at least, was good. However, the "French toast" was more like an anemic panini press trying to pass as French toast. The steak and eggs comprised of a fairly well-cooked (that is, it was the right temperature) yet underseasoned steak of a relatively dubious cut, underseasoned home fries, and eggs done wrong (sunny side instead of over easy). The lattermost was the start of the problem, as I was willing to give it a shot, but found the texture off-putting. In light of this, I brought the problem to our server Adalia, who brought it to her manager Elvia. Thankfully I had someone else with me to tell me what happened: Elvia came over without addressing me on their error, silently took a look at my plate and instructed Adalia to have the kitchen put the eggs back on the fire. She takes my plate to extract the eggs, and brings them back (unsurprisingly) completely overdone, first in Elvia's hands, then in Adalia's for her to serve; we send for a refire, and they come back correct 7 minutes or so after I've already finished eating. Considering the hassle it took to get them, I couldn't trust it enough to eat, leading them to waste as well. After all was said and done, the GM Amer comes over to see how things were, and was thankfully helpful and understanding of our situation. Here's the rub: I was initially willing to overlook the steak, the home fries, and even the eggs if the error was properly ameliorated. Adalia and Amer both did very well, and I'm grateful for them for that; Elvia, on the other hand, managed to break the chain of competent customer service by directing the server to handle the problem in a way that was set up for failure (if you mess up an egg, it's an immediate refire because of how the egg cooks in the first place -- Amer also arrested to that policy) all without addressing us and taking accountability, due to negligence or whatever else. Not only that, but when sending the incorrect eggs over the second time, she couldn't even bring it to us herself--it would have been easy, seeing as she was the one that originally had them--and left Adalia and her tip to potentially take the fire if the patrons happen to be angry. Mistakes are fine--everyone makes them--but I'd describe this as cowardly more than anything else, and I take issue with that in particular from a leadership standpoint. While Amer graciously extended an invitation for a better experience next time, I can't say I'll be taking him up on the offer when their service and food are this misaligned; unfortunately, a disappointment overall.

To start, we shared the crispy brussel sprouts Charleston style. These were delicious with the tangy sauce and large flakes of parmesan cheese. For my main, I had the brunch wrap. It comes with chips, but I swapped for fries for an additional charge. The wrap was a good size; I had half and saved the rest for leftovers. It was tasty, but not a ton of flavor. The tater tots were nice and crispy and I enjoyed the fresh tomatoes and avocado. They gave me a huge portion of crinkle cut fries, which also would've been great with a little more seasoning, but they were good when dipped in mayo. My husband got the shrimp and grits and appreciated the large portion size as well. I had a lemonade to drink. It was refreshing since it wasn't overly sweet. Service was great. I look forward to trying the rest of the menu!

Aesthetically, each table feels like a meal at a family dinner table; it's clear that they wanted that vibe to be translated, and it's done quite well. This is also supported by the service being very friendly and helpful in general. To eat, I had the French toast burger with sweet potato fries. Some others with me had various sides like regular fries and tater tots, and the same thing was present on them that tends not to be at most places: they were all perfectly salted/seasoned. It might seem immaterial, but it's a very good signal when something that simple--yet often neglected in favor of just using condiments to mask it--is executed well. If you're a burger place with fries that taste great without the need for a sauce or condiment, you're doing something right. The French toast burger was likewise fantastic, combining sweet and savory in a great way. To drink, we all got a communal pitcher of the only frozie they had available at the time: a kind of jungle juice vodka slushie. It, too, was great--worthy of multiple rounds. All in all, here's a place that I can't wait to give another visit.

So I was so very disappointed when after Covid they continued with the only pick up service. The food quality is enough to continue yes but the vibe dining in and at the bar I truly miss. My daughters fell in love with this place because every time we walked into that dinning room there was a particular servers who KNEW US. They knew us enough to know my daughters had a favorite table (the 1st we sat at dinning there). They know us to know that my daughters had special distinction drink mocktails (one of the reasons the fell in love wit this place) that they could order even when it was no longer in the menu. This was one of those places we frequented....even if they couldn't get their special table or waiter, the quality never disappointed. During Covid we order delivery regularly because we didn't realize how much this spot because our Caribbean food must have. I can't say we ever really had tried a different meal from over favorable ones that made us say this is one thing they don't get right to us. And the rum punches and Bob Marley drinks they served during their dinning days is what got me to the pin t I had to start stopping in this joint just to have a drink and appetizers. This really used to be by spot back when they had dine in services. Over the years it's in our delivery/pickup Bronx favorite list unfortunately. I say unfortunately because now that we are back at full operational living. I har to slash the delivery/pickup weekly rituals to only situations of desperation not necessity. So this spot has only become a craving order delivery/pickup order spot. Not a I got some/gonna make some time to go enjoy a drink and some Caribbean food spot destination. Which this was my #1 default choice before Covid as I said this used to be my spot. I would take my daughters here damn there biweekly if not be there weekly myself on dates and when hanging out . Cause they people there were serious enough about customer service they would acknowledge knowing who you are and treat you as such. Hence again why my daughters loved this place as kids. *Looks right and left* a yoo when yall opening the dinning in area again cause it's been log enough now...FIX IT! lol

The jerk chicken lovers in my life can't get enough. My recommended dishes are the whiting (fried) with rice and peas, rasta pasta and now the lobster (which I didn't know they had). The seafood is made to order, fresh and super tasty. I never thought sweet chili and lobster would be a good combo but it totally rocks! It was truly delectable. My only issue is that they charge for gravy if the dish isn't saucy (as if) lol but I get it!
