To-Go Nozawa

I have eaten sushi many times, though I have never been to Japan, and, admittedly my knowledge of sushi is very basic. Plus, delivery sushi, as this was, is kind of disrespectful to the cuisine. Nonetheless, for others, ordering at home, this was quite good. The sushi and sashimi fish seemed fresh. The vinegar rice was tasty. The edamame was nicely cooked. The presentation was excellent. Generally speaking, I enjoyed the meal. Delivery was quick. Comparatively good for home delivery sushi.

I finally checked out one of the sugar fish restaurants out in NYC after having been to one in LA. The one in LA is more casual so definitely a different vibe. I'm not sure if you can make reservations here, but there were a lot of walk-ins. You need to put your name down on the tablet and the entire party has to be there. I went with one other person on a Thursday night and it took around 30 to 45 minutes to be called. We decided to get the omakase set called the Trust Me Dinner. I enjoyed the blue and dungeness crab handroll the best. Just know that there's no tipping at all sugarfish restaurants.

Sugarfish is always my go-to when it comes to an omakase experience. The pricing and what you get for the cost is a great deal in my opinion. Everything was fantastic and the sushi is top notch. The only downside to this location was the noise of their electric lighter. It seemed like every 5 minutes they used this lighter that emits a super high frequency screeching sound and all of us at the table and other tables cringed at the noise and how frequent it was. Just use a normal lighter!! Overall this place is great and my experience with the waiters improved from last time.

From the moment I walked in, the energy was right--welcoming, professional, and efficient, just like a well-run New York business should be. The host and server were friendly, attentive, and genuinely focused on creating a great experience. No rushing, no attitude--just smooth, confident service that makes you feel valued. In this city, that matters. The food? On point. Every plate looked incredible and tasted even better--fresh, clean, perfectly balanced. This is sushi done with discipline and excellence. No gimmicks. Just results. The environment is another major win. It's modern, comfortable, and focused--ideal for a work meeting or strategic conversation. You can talk business, build relationships, and still enjoy top-tier food without distractions.

One of my favorite sushi restaurants of all time or any type of restaurant of all time for that matter. The sushi is great. The hand rolls are great. The prices are great. The waiting sucks. Thats sugarfish in a nutshell.

Ordered: Trust Me (~$41) -Edamame -Tuna and Chutoro Sashimi w ponzu and chives -2pc Albacore Sushi w ponzu and chives -2pc Salmon Sushi w toasted sesame -Toro Hand Roll -1pc Japanese Yellowtail Sushi w lemon -1pc Sea Bass Sushi w yuzu ponzu -Blue & Dungeness Crab Hand Roll Aya's take: As a self-proclaimed sushi connoisseur, I'm shocked & appalled that it took me so long to try Sugarfish! We waited ~15 minutes for a table for 2 during weekend lunch, and service was fairly quick and attentive once we were seated. I went with the Trust Me as we were in a bit of a rush and it seems to be a reliable choice with a decent variety. Every bite was delicious. Simple, fresh, and quality - that's really what you're getting here. My favorite bites were the Tuna and Chutoro Sashimi, Salmon Sushi, and Japanese Yellowtail Sushi. The Salmon Sushi in particular melted in my mouth and the toasted sesame elevated the bite beyond my expectations. The Hand Rolls were also great but the rice-to-fish ratio could've been a little better. They recommend you eat it as soon as it hits your table as the seaweed is the freshest then. All in all, Sugarfish truly exemplifies freshness over complexity. No tipping policy and friendly staff. Highly recommend!

The line might be long but it is ALWAYS WORTH THE WAIT. Charlie's Angel... Charlie is now a manager here. She is amazing. The ambiance here is great. It is very easy to become a regular here. In terms of ranking on the sushi: 1) Salmon Kombu (special)- your taste buds are in for one hell of a ride... trust me 2) Toro Hand roll - this is the BEST HAND ROLL EVER!!! If you are easily hooked on good sushi... you are in big trouble with this one. They mix 2 different types of toro along with albacore, all in one roll. 3) Albacore Belly (special) - this gives the Toro a run for its money. 4) Salmon Hand roll - I am a big fan of salmon. There is nothing like crispy seaweed, hot rice, and fresh fish... so good 5) Blue and Dungeon Crab Hand Roll Honorable Mention: the Unagi Hand Roll over at KazuNori is even better than the Toro. Sadly they don't have it at Sugarfish. It is worth mentioning that Sugarfish and KazuNori are the same owners. They each have different menu items than each other, making it easy to go back and forth between locations. They are both AMAZING. The staff are always amazing, even when they are short staffed. Make sure to thank your servers repeatedly. They work so hard and do an amazing job. Just sit back, enjoy the sushi, and appreciate that it is NOT ABOUT SPEED. It is ALL ABOUT THE QUALITY.

Here's the deal: Sugarfish never misses. Either location is always consistent and delicious! Great service! No Reservations!

Came here on a weekday and the place was packed. We were told 45 minutes for a table, but it turned out to just be a 15 minute wait. The restaurant is small with a little bar on the side. We got the don't think, just eat trust me and it was a lot of food. The pink lobster sashimi was my favorite, nice and sweet. My least favorite was probably the eel, I think I prefer the frozen packaged one!The hand rolls were a bit too ricey, so took some out to better appreciate the filling. Service was friendly and quick. Tip is included in the menu price which is a nice perk.

How lucky can a girl be to have the best sushi spot in Midtown West right next door to my hotel while visiting the Big Apple! Small but quaint dining space with some bar seating. Best to make a reservation on typical busy days/nights but can possibly snag a table quickly if the party is small. We visited on a Tuesday evening around &7pm and had a 45 min. wait. Service is great and final bill includes gratuity, no tipping here! Love that they offer a few TRUST ME Nozawa options for big sushi eaters. Several standard sushi options and equally great hand/cut options for lighter sushi eaters. My favorites were the cucumber roll perfectly balanced for vegan palates and the Lobster roll, perfect for everyone! Highly recommend this spot.

Amazing, as always. Even the newer team members get the vibe! The service is great and the food is phenomenal!

Big fan of Sugarfish, I know what to expect. The wait wasn't too long to get in though we did have a little bit of it. They were quick to seat us after and I love how the menu isn't too large - meaning everything is fresh. We order the omakase Trust Me because we thought it was the best deal and quantity of food. Overall, I was impressed by the freshness of everything and how quickly it came out. There wasn't anything that I ate that wasn't pleasant. Inside, it was sort of dark which makes it a good ambiance to have conversation in and not feel overwhelmed. Definitely coming back and checking their other locations too.

Ask the Community - SUGARFISH | Midtown West

What happened to the waitlist? Do we need to have our entire party wait in person for our table now?

What is the usual wait like for a mid weekday around 6?

Reservation would be ideal if they allow it. During the week when I was there between 5-6pm there were open tables, but they do fill up quick.

Is there outdoor dining?

No there isn't.

Are there heat lamps for the outdoor dining area?

There is outdoor seating actually at least from last week although no heat lamps that I could remember. It was about 40 degrees and we were good with our winter jackets.

The atmosphere here was a bit more lively and crowded compared to the more relaxed vibe of the UWS spot. I enjoyed my meal even more this time around. I started with the beet salad, which was delicious and offered great value given the generous portion size. it featured sliced beets, arugula, goat cheese, and walnuts. I also had my eye on the hijiki soybean salad--which is a bit smaller and reportedly homemade--so I may try that next time, along with the warm mushroom salad which looked very tasty. The edamame was standard but served as a nice starter. For my main rolls, I chose the salmon avocado and the yellowtail scallion. Both were very fresh and definitely worth ordering again. The salmon avocado roll had a nice touch of sesame seeds on the rice, while the yellowtail scallion was prepared with the seaweed on the outside. My boyfriend's sushi entree looked excellent, so I am considering that or the sushi-sashimi combo for my next visit. The entrees provide a substantial amount of food, and I especially appreciate that they allow you to choose which roll comes with your meal.

They share a takeout menu and it's super easy to order--text what you want to the phone number on the website and pickup in ~20 minutes :). You pay on a handheld and they don't ask for tip for takeout. I love this process and truly wish more sushi restaurants in LA adopt the takeout box. The only one I know of is hefty but also $200 each lol, making Sanyuu's $69 omakase and $78 Everything don, not to mention the $30 giant salmon nigiri set, A STEAL! I enjoyed most of the pieces but I will say I don't like their amaebi or uni at all. I'm not sure what kind of uni is used here but it's the type with a very strong mineral flavor & aftertaste that I don't find enjoyable. We're spoiled by easy access to live spot prawns everywhere and fresh SB uni. Despite this, I wouldn't hesitate to come back if I lived in the city.

The slices aren't thin, delicate, and melt-in-your-mouth as one usually gets in a sit down; they are extra thick, and I had to really bite down on some of the pieces. The rice was nicely seasoned and was cooked well + portions are also big to match those thiccccc salmon slices. To be honest, I was getting a little nauseated after 5 pieces, haha~ They were definitely delicious but I'd probably just eat 3 or 4 pieces and share with a friend! It was easy to text the number on the website and coordinate a pickup time, and the staff was friendly when I arrived. The restaurant is a little hard to find as the windows are blinded and the sign is a piece of paper on the door.
