This was my first time trying sugarfish but I have heard raving reviews. This is an omikase style cozy sushi restaurant. They don't take reservations, but when we arrived they had a large waiting room upstairs, and we were sat within 20 minutes. We all got the omikase pre-decided courses but in varying sizes. We also got a few extra pieces and rolls to try out their limited time items. Overall, the quality of fish was really great. I especially loved the unique cut of fatty tuna that i ordered on the side. I think the value for these meals is great as well. However, the service was very confusing, as they didn't seem to know what they were serving us. Servers asked us whether we received a certain course yet, which I thought was odd. Think of the omakases I've tried, think this one ranked the bottom, keeping mind of the price. Starting with the good. The fish was fine. Favorite was the first dish. Tuna was fresh. Just a little salty from the soy. Also up front that there's no tip. The rest...not so good. The soy sauce is like regular kikkoman regular soy sauce. The edamame was salty. The nigiri pieces they added soy sauce already...was salty. The rice was mushy too. Which is a shame because I did like the amount of vinegar and sugar added. But then when they added soy sauce, the whole thing just fell apart and barely can pick up. And then again...salty. And then look wise, the nigiri just looked like slapped together and not shaped Now as for tipping policy...no tipping and it shows. The servers just look and act like they're just fed up and going thru the motions. There are definitely omakase places out there that are magnitudes more worth just paying like $10-20 more. I've heard about Sugarfish for so long and know it has somewhat of a cult following, so I finally decided to give it a try while I was in the area. I walked in around 1:45 on a weekday and found that the place was absolutely packed. Ambiance wise it has a very cool vibe. I asked about the wait time, the hostess said it could be around 30 minutes. But hey, I was already here, so I decided to put my name down and use their bathroom in the meantime. Shortly after I came back from the bathroom and sat down she let me know she actually did have a table for me which was great. My server explained the menu and recommended one of their set menus which, in my opinion was a great value. I chose their $39 set which included edamame, two hand rolls and a few other pieces of sushi. The edamame was a decent portion and salted just right. The salmon and tuna nigiri were fresh and hearty, plus the sushi rice here is so well seasoned. The toro hand roll was delicious, the yellowtail and sea bass were refreshing bites. The blue and Dungeness crab hand roll was perfectly cooked too. This is a non tipping restaurant, so my total for all of this food came out to $43 with tax which I think was a steal. The only drawback was the wait time in between courses. Though I think coming here with a friend for a long yap session would help pass the time! read more

I was craving sushi and despite and abundance of them in the area, this was one of the few that wasn't closing at 9. Being a party of 1 at a later hour, I had no wait to be seated though the restaurant was still almost full. There was plenty of "ambience" which is another way of saying it was pretty dark and made it difficult to see the menu. I was promptly served as well, getting going with some drinks and quickly settling on the Trust Me, which ended up being a great choice. Service was very good and when I had to flag someone down to get soy, they were very apologetic about it not being delivered previously, which was not a big deal. In reading previous reviews, I am in complete agreement that the rice is warm (which I liked) and that it falls apart easily (I did not). The quality of the fish was great. However, the Trust Me didn't quite satiate my appetite so I ordered another roll. At the end of it all with several drinks and the fish, it turns out gratuity was included which made this one of the more reasonably priced sushi dinners I've had anywhere. As a fan of Kazunori, I knew that Sugarfish wouldn't disappoint! I came with a friend and fellow kazunori fan for an early dinner, and we were thankfully seated really quickly around 5:30pm. About 30 mins later, the restaurant was packed! We both decided on the Trust Me ($46), and it came with a decent amount of food! I looove the ponzu sauce that they put, which provides the perfect amount of acidity without overpowering the fish. Favorite pieces include the yellowtail and albacore, and the toro and crab handrolls. I was just about full, but needed a little something more to feel satisfied, so I got an additional bay scallop hand roll ($7). My friend ordered another crab handroll - this was seriously so good. Our final total came out to about $63pp (no tipping here). Probably a bit on the pricier end for the amount of food, but everything was really fresh. I personally prefer kazunori a bit more for its value & handrolls, but I enjoyed Sugarfish! Ambiance is casual - perfect for a quick dinner! read more

Went here for a business lunch today and it was fantastic. The freshest fish flown in from all over the world. Even simple things like the flavor of the rice and the crispness of the seaweed on the hand rolls is amazing. Go with the Trust Me Menu and you will be amazed! The service was great and Hazel our waitress did a great job explaining everything and was very professional and pleasant. We sat at one of the first tables as you walk in the door on the left. Our waitress was mediocre at best. There were questions she could not answer about the fish on the menu. The menu is not that large that she should've not been more educated. The service she provided was less than satisfactory. She mixed up dishes and didn't get orders right for each of us. The place was packed, and we waited for about an hour to get a table for 2. However, the ambiance is cute and dark--a very nice dinner spot. We did one of the "dinner trust me's," and everything tasted super fresh. The Blue & Dungeness crab hand roll was definitely my favorite out of everything. However, everything was still super yummy.
