Best tanning salon in NYC hands down!!!…read more I have been coming here for years now and have always been extremely happy with my results. I love the salt lamps, wood floors, and the overall location and ambiance. I have been spray tanned here several times and I am a regular tanning client for their beds too. The customer service is always impeccable, and I feel like the staff and managers are not only super knowledgable but also take their time to make sure that people get the best advice and guidance for their skin, which lotions should be used, etc... I recently started using their LightStim LED bed as well, and I am sooo impressed with the improvement of my skin. Not only is this salon really central to everything, but I also love the camaraderie here. After a few years of being a client I have met other regulars and honestly for people to use the same tanning salon for years and years is a testimony to the fact that they aren't a revolving door. They seem to really care about your happiness here and that to me is good business. I actually cannot believe I haven't written a rave review until now because they are one of those businesses that you naturally share and talk up to other people. (*Side note: before I went in for the first time, I checked reviews like any smart person would, it seemed (and still seems) the only bad reviews on here really are in regards to spray tanning... Sorry but these people must be idiots to put it bluntly, they clearly just don't know how to pay attention to direction? I am fair skinned with freckles, and I work in TV; therefore I spray tan frequently and always look perfectly sun kissed on set with no issues whatsoever) If you want an amazing tan and overall experience, you should definitely come here! They were extremely friendly with all of our enquiries and if I did live in Manhattan or if I'm in Manhattan soon and need something tan-wise, or Barbie does, we will very strongly consider this place because of how nice they were. I wouldn't say affordable but I would say well worth it.

The sessions are appropriately priced. My only criticisms are I wish I could just press the start button inside the bed instead of having to wait for the lights to come on or pressing the blue button that's on the wall. It would also be convenient to be able to keep a bottle of lotion there but I get it. Space is a premium and people leave it and probably forget they left it there. Other than that it's pretty good. I haven't done the spray in this location so I can't review it. But they do offer it along with red light therapy in what looks like a giant shell.

Mandy has done all my tans and she is a sweetheart. I have never had a problem with my tans and they have all been the shade I wanted and have come out even. The shade you pick stays in your file so each time you come back you can refer to it if you want to do that shade again or go lighter or darker. You need to prepare for the tan just as they recommend that you do in the instructions they send you prior to the appointment if you want this to be worth it. Also, follow the instructions on how to get to their location just as they are written. The first time I came I was confused and a bit skeptical after entering a regular building, going up an elevator, and then down an empty hall to a simple door (then again, it is exactly what they write to expect, but still!) However, after having learned the directions on how to get around the space it is fine now. A big thing is their cancelation policy (full charge if you are late or cancel within 24 hours) which I read from other reviews is a big turn-away for some. I mean, it IS extreme, but that's what it is. I always factor in extra time when traveling to my appointments and like to give myself an extra 45 minutes- 1 hour just in case (it's the city so who knows what traffic jam you can get into). I do not expect to be seen early when I arrive and one time did have to wait until my scheduled appointment time, however got lucky during my last visit and was able to tan earlier. The salon provides scrunchies, shower caps, and wipes, if you need any of the products for the tan. Going back to the package of 6 tans that I purchased, the receptionist informed me that I can leave a tip for all 6 tans in advance with my purchase right now, and it will then be applied to each tan during my future visits. For me this was a very convenient feature and now I do not need to think about payments during my next visits, as they are already prepaid with tip as well!

Jackie informed me that anything they do would fade considerably by the time my event came around. She said she would ask her boss for a recommendation in California and call me back. Within five minutes, she called me back with the name of a salon in California. They went above and beyond without knowing me. They were honest with me as to what the results would look like if I did it a week ahead of time, even if it meant losing the business. When I do decide to use a tanning salon in New York, this will be the only place I will be calling. This is old school customer service at its best!

Sugar and Bronzed has changed my perspective on spray tans! I used to "spoil" myself once or twice a year. I would wait for a special occasion like a wedding to get my glow on. Two weeks ago was my "special day" and I was excited to go to Sugar and Bronzed! First of all, the lady at the desk was so welcoming and I felt relaxed. Since I'm not a spray-tan expert I asked her if I should buy sandals since I was wearing Uggs! She told me that I could wear my Uggs as long as I don't wear socks. And she didn't make me feel like a complete idiot for asking. Lauren, the bronzing expert, I highly recommend! If all the employees are like Lauren, they have perfect service! I didn't feel rushed and I adored how confident she was during the process! I believe she was very accommodating! Also I praise her for her multi-tasking skills. We had a lovely conversation and it didn't seem to affect her from doing her job. :) The next day I had a flight and I was worried the plane "air" would ruin my tan, this was not the case. Lauren wrote out a very detailed card with advice and self care tips. I really liked the express tan since it was super fast. I waited two hours to wash the tan off and in that time I went home and ate dinner. Super, super fast! I asked to look natural since I am very pale. What I got was a sun-kissed look like I was in the Bahamas for a couple days. Not that orange look that you get from cheap self tanner. I'm scheduled for a tan tomorrow and plan on trying the standard tan. I believe now I won't only get tans for special occasions. Can't wait for tomorrow! To say I'm pale is a pretty wild understatement. I'm so fair I basically reflect sunlight, especially in the winter. I have a trip to Miami booked and wanted to look like I've ever seen the sun before. Today was my fourth time at S+B. I was running a little behind and texted them -- one of my favorite things about them is that you can call OR text them directly and they're very communicative. They were so accommodating and happily moved me to the next slot so I didn't lose my appointment. I was able to get a pair of flip flops for just an additional dollar, and the express tan only costs $60 which is not bad at all for a really high quality, long lasting tan. And then it turned I had rewards points which I had NO IDEA ABOUT (!!!) so I wound up saving money anyway. The people there are all so friendly and so professional. They know what they're talking about and answer any and all questions. And the tan itself is amazing. They sell moisturizing and tan extending products which I haven't tried, but plan to because everything else here is excellent. Important to note that it's cashless (although you can tip in cash). Awesome place, highly recommend. It's VERY hard to find a medium to dark spray tan that doesn't look fake on my pale skin, but S+B has done it! read more

From the second I walked in I knew I was in good hands! I was immediately checked in and greeted by the woman who I had an appointment with. Before S+B, I had only one prior spray tan experience that still gives me nightmares when I think about it - I wanted to fit in with a group of girls on this tropical birthday trip and instead I was the incredibly orange streaky girl. ANYWAYS, I gave spray tans another shot at S+B before a trip to Mexico with my boyfriend. He's far from interested in the 'fake look' and the response I got from him was "wow, if this is how spray tans look every time you get them, I'm fully into this." Plus he saw how happy I was with my 'natural' glow! I then went for my 2nd spray tan at S+B, another good experience! I specifically asked for a tan along the lines of "I'm going to a beach wedding and I want a tan but not too tan because I'm standing next to my not so tan boyfriend" she gave me exactly that. I cannot wait for my 3rd tan this week here! Lastly, I'll stick with S+B and unless I move out of nyc as I don't see myself going elsewhere. My faith in spray tans has been restored and I'll look forward to my natural looking glows from S+B. read more

Where do I even start.....I asked to record my waxing because I am a blogger they said no. Cool. I tell MEG let's just continue with the waxing and I put my camera away. She then goes " HMMMMM no I'm not doing your wax" as she walks out the room she calls me a spic.....so disgusting....I have a mixed child I would never lie about this. No one has ever spoke to me this way. Then KATIE goes everyone here loves her she's not getting fired what a weird and rude thing to say.....I've been coming here for months and this is my first bad review..Katie was so rude and condescending I honestly couldn't believe it. I had to hire a babysitter for $ 150 just for them not to do my wax. Then Katie goes okay you can leave now bye. This was the worst experience of my entire life. Such racist people can't believe I didn't see it before. I have the whole video on my camera. These woman are so confidant they won't get fired and that disgusting ways isn't okay. I had been waxing since I was 15 (I'm 31 now) and never really loved the results or found a place to be loyal to. A friend with sensitive skin recently told me about sugaring and I tried sugared and bronzed on a whim after reading positive reviews and seeing its convenient location coming from Williamsburg. I've been coming regularly for several months now, signed up for the monthly membership and I'm sold. I've seen Amanda most of the times I've been in and she is super professional, efficient and sweet. My first time in she thoroughly explained the process and the benefits of sugaring and made me feel very comfortable. The pain was similar to waxing the first time but it has been less painful each time I've come in. It is extremely easy to make an appointment through their online system or via text and I've been seen right on time each appointment. The best part is that I've had zero ingrowns/irritation since starting sugaring which was always something I struggled with post waxing. I highly recommend! read more

I don't usually post reviews about anything but I felt the need to do it for sugar + bronzed because their service is unlike no other. I am very satisfied with the service, the employees/staff and the location I have only had sugaring services here but there is no doubt that this is the only place I go to for hair removal now. I am a person with slightly sensitive skin (especially on the lip area) and before May of this year I used to do traditional waxing services, but once I did sugaring hair removal I don't even think about going back. It's *a lot* less painful and it does not irritate the skin because the heat isn't extreme. The sugaring services are very clean and effective + it stops more ingrown hairs. The staff is always super friendly and I never feel uncomfortable around them whatsoever. I only and will continue to go to sugar and bronzed. I am more than thrilled to have found a place like this. Such an amazing experience! I have always been a fan of traditional waxing and bed tanning until a friend told me about this new trend. The staff was nothing but professional. From the moment I stepped into to the moment I left the staff made me feel comfortable and showed that they truly care about each and every customer of their regardless if they are a new customer or a reoccurring customer. Every product they use is fresh and the whole atmosphere of the place is clean. I can't express enough how amazing my Brazillian and tax came out! I would 100% recommend the Union Square location to all my friends in NYC and all my friends who live in other states where S&B's are located. Since having a scare at the dermatologist, this place has been my go to. They are SO affordable that it makes avoiding sun bathing that much easier - I get a spray tan before weddings, parties, or even when I just am feeling a little pale! For $39 you cannot beat that! I have had several of the girls do my spray tans - and they have all been consistently great. I always feel so comfortable, and they are extremely efficient so I'm out in no time. I have never had any issues with streaking or anything - which I was nervous about when I first went. My spray tans last a minimum of one week and sometimes they go into two weeks! I HIGHLY recommend this place! With the quality and price point, why would you go elsewhere? I see other salons that offer spray tans for $60 - no need to spend that! read more

I've been coming here for the better part of a year for brazilians, I can't believe I've never left a review. Gold standard for 'waxing' (even though it's not really waxing). Always friendly, prompt, super clean. Let's face it, this sh*t is never exactly 'fun,' but at S&B it is about as close as it gets. My skin looks good, ingrowns have decreased dramatically, which is amazing. As someone who has been doing this for a long time, this is by far the best option. If I wasn't moving I'd prob go with the membership cause that seems like a good deal. If you've never had a Brazilian before, I'd say this place is probably a great place to start. I've been to both locations, both are stellar. And if you have ANY problems, give them a heads up; their customer service is awesome. read more

This was my first sugaring experience, and my first waxing/anything of that real of hair removal experience. I've always shaved, and I really wanted to try sugaring based on the things I've heard. I got a Brazilian! I came here and my esthetician, Kelly, was so nice and helpful for me during the process. She talked to me about sugaring a lot and made sure I knew everything that I was getting myself into - and talked during the sugaring itself and even walked me through my breathing during the sensitive areas. It does hurt, a lot, at least for me (but again this was my first time)! The receptionists greeted me very nicely and the whole process was in and out in about 20 minutes. Amazing!! I'll come back. I absolutely love this place! I've gone here both to get a tan and brazilian sugaring, and both are amazing. The express tan is my favorite, and the color is nothing else than perfection. I am so so happy everytime I walk out of there. The sugaring is not something I really look forward to, but they make the experience really pleasant - so now I actually look forward to next time! The atmosphere here is also so good, all the people working here is nice and makes you feel really welcome. (One of the girls there always remembers my name, and she's the cutest and I light up every time I see her!). The prices here is also unbeatable, so this is def the place to go!! read more

After trying another sugaring salon in NYC, I am VERY happy to have found Sugared + Bronzed! I have been sugaring for 3 years in The South and was nervous about finding a place to go to in the city. When I called Sugared + Bronzed to make my first appointment, I had a ton of questions to ask, as I wanted to make sure the services would be done properly. I've rarely use yelp- but felt so strongly that people need to know how awesome this place is. I used a Gilt voucher here and will totally be returning. Jade did my spray tan; she was so kind and made me feel super comfortable ( anyone who's been naked in front of stranger knows how weird that experience can be). Beyond her professionalism- I love the tan that she gave me- it's exactly the color I was looking for, is even, and has a natural contoured look. The whole place was lovely- the staff was incredibly sweet and helpful and I never felt that because I was using a voucher from Gilt, that I was less of a priority than full- price paying customers. read more

This was the first spray tan I've ever gotten. I was pleased that an actual person oversees and controls the spray tan to ensure you're getting an even finish. Everyone was very nice and answered all my many questions. I did the Standard so my tan developed over about 12 hours. I showered this morning and my tan is set at about one level less from what it developed to so I'm happy to not be super dark - looks like I just got back from the beach! Didn't get on my sheets either! Added bonus - you instantly look and feel about 5 pounds lighter ;) I'll be back for my second one to keep my tan going all summer long. read more

I have been getting sugared at Sugared + Bronzed (the Union Square location) for almost two years now (under the membership plan) and Amanda has been the best sugarista EVER! She has amazing technique; always quick and painless. She always takes the time to squeeze me in for appointments that fit my busy work schedule, and makes me feel so comfortable during the entire process. These guys are great! I came in for a spay tan that I needed to get for a role ( Miami pool party), and it was a great experience. I got an appointment the next day, the girls were very accommodating and nice , and it took less than 20 minutes. My tan looks really intense and believe it or not, natural. I am a Nordic descent blonde, so no tan looks natural on me. The only thing is that the place is cashless, so bring your debit or credit cards . Other than that, I will definitely go back again!! After reading some of these comments and attending the place itself. I have found to notice that many customers have neglected the fact that the majority of the employees in this salon are young, students, working several jobs at a time and are always trying their best to take on a high volume of clients. It is important to remember that customer service to this degree is not an easy job, and being able to come in and work as hard as they do while staying professional and welcoming is rewarding. The BEST spray tan in NYC. The quality of a personalized spray at this price is unbelievable. You pay this much for those box sprays. This is a real person making sure everything is evenly covered rather than one solid all over spray. They even ask you if you want them to go over your face twice since the color comes off the fastest. Clean location. Friendly staff. Appointments book up fast so try to book as soon as you know of an event. They are timely, I've only waited 5 min last my appointment time. AMAZING AMAZING AMAZING. Had my first spray tan experience here at S+B and it's been amazing. Can't say enough! I am pretty pale/fair skinned and have always wanted to try spray tanning. However, I've been afraid of the color coming out wrong or getting uneven marks. But S+B has been nothing but amazing. The whole experience from booking online, to feeling comfortable with the staff, and knowing exactly what to do after the spray left me feeling great and glowing. She also tried to force this powder on me with a dirty brush, which I was not comfortable with. Complete waste of time and money, especially when I was getting ready for an important event.

Since their operating hours are the usual business hours, I had to come on my lunch break. According to the reviews, it usually takes about 15 mins in and out. My appointment was at 1:15, I arrived at 1:10, but I think the person before me started late so Natalie couldn't take me in until 1:25. Ten minute wait time is not terrible at all, but since I snuck out on my lunch - time is of the essence! The whole process took about twenty mins in total, including getting in and out of clothes. I made the mistake of thinking I can get waxing done after a couple of days, but Natalie said no - unless it's for the girl downstairs. Other than that no waxing any other body parts. I do not have the greatest body and standing butt naked in front of a stranger was almost as uncomfortable as can be imagined. But Natalie had NO wandering eyes, maintained eye contact with me the entire time. (Bless you for that) Shes very polite, it was in and out really. I took off one star because of the receptionist. Natalie said no bra after spraying, and of course I didn't have a bag on me. So I went out of the room holding onto my bra....I asked the girl in front for a bag and she looked like she was not having it. (LOL) I then paid and then she tried to sell me a package.. 5 for $495 or 1 for $69.. (I might've heard wrong and I hope I did) because 5 single times is $345 so I'm not sure how the 5 for $495 would be a "package deal" exactly. And when she said bye, she looked like she was grieving for someones death. (my condolences if you really were) The girl she was training smiled and greeted me bye. LOL if you're not in the state to do customer service, maybe you should take a 5 min breather. Nonetheless, i would come back. Natalie was great. This tan looks great and super natural.

Now, this was not something I was expecting to do or do regularly - but I'm hooked now to LED. I was given ample information from the proprietor, Jan, and started a package of anti-aging on my face and hands. Well, it's the best thing I've ever done and I will continue my sessions. Not only is the procedure relaxing, noninvasive, and comfortable, but the difference in the quality of the skin on my face and hands is indisputable at this point. Afterward, my face is baby soft and clear...then in coming days, I find that I never have a bad skin day, a dry day, a tired day...nothing. Even at the menstrual time of the month, I always get a pimple here or there, as my hormones are probably raging...nothing at all. It's like new skin. I am 46 years old with no visible wrinkles at this stage. I enjoy wine, have been a smoker, have had late nights, and know that this will always take a toll on my skin...or will it? Up to now, my skin is still somewhat gorgeous, with no lines and even diminished lines that I already had in my 20's and I can only attribute that to my recent commitment to LED facials, as well as normal cleansing and moisturizing. People that I meet from any walk of life always think I am younger than them (unless they are considerably younger) and I am enjoying this new wrinkle-free skin. First of all, it was so happy to see that they had some same day appointment availability! Why that may not always be the case, some booking systems will still only show starting next day. I also loved that their menu had a lot of options, including more than one type of Brazilian to book. When I showed up to my appointment, I checked in and filled out some basic, new client information. I was then taken to my room with my waxer promptly after. They use hard wax here which many people prefer, but for me hurts the most. But I don't really care what is used as long as they're hygienic, quick, effective and will not spawn in-grown hairs. My waxer was quick, thorough and one week out...things are still looking good! As a bonus, first time clients got a significant discount which made me even happier about my experience. While my experience before check out was already excellent, that was just icing on the cake. Overall, I left very impressed and will definitely return again in the future!

No one came out and there wasn't a bell or anything to ring to get attention. Didn't really want to scream "hello?" In a spa. The waxing room was clean, the bed/table was soft and there was music playing. Heather was a sweetheart and we chatted and laughed the entire time- which was nice because Brazilians can be kinda uncomfortable. Also taking into account that I went to the same women for over 10 years, so nobody's been so up close and personal since her. Now, let's get to the goods, the wax. The wax was legit painless. It's purple and I believe it's referred to as hard wax, so none of those fabric strips are involved in ripping the wax off your skin. No irritation, no ingrowns, nothing. All in all, I had a pleasant experience here and I will definitely return :)

It was a last minute appointment for me and I don't have a lot in my southern area due to all the previous sessions I had at other places. This is just a touch up after 10 years. So I didn't shave because it was last minute and didn't have time (pretty normal at most places to touch you up if you didn't), as you know we have to shave. So I asked my laser tech, she said you don't need to because this way she knows where it is. Big mistake trusting her that maybe she knew a new hack (?). It's been 2 weeks and nothing has happened except that she probably burned me (read online why you need to shave). I have never ever had hyper pigmentation but I was covered in red dots that are now gray. I'm pretty fair skin but I am a POC and it's crazy because I've always done the higher settings for any laser, whether it is IPL or hair removal. I don't know what the tech did. All the areas that I have hyperpigermentation or the pink/red burns are on areas I didn't have any hair. Then we hit the areas that do, she never shaved so it hurt extra bad and of course it doesn't hit the follicles, burnt, and I still have hair..... And I will say as someone that is from the 2nd densest big city after NYC, this was 5x what it cost back home. This is crazy, not only is it more expensive, it was done incorrectly, somehow I manage to get burned and none of the hair follicles were killed. It's upsetting that this store is operating and I TIPPED THEM. Never in my life had I ever have to tip anyone for laser and they ask for it here. SKIP AT ALL COST. TLDR: I'm a laser vet, said I didn't need to shave (quick google says they are wrong), something nothing worked/ineffective, I got burned, I have hyperpigmentation which has never happened, 5x other places in price, and they ask for tip (mildly unorthodox.. I tipped though - hindsight wish I didn't)
