Sugarbakers made mini cupcakes for our wedding. We picked up several flavors to taste and decided in key lime, strawberry, chocolate, and birthday cake. Came from out of town to a family reunion and birthday weekend! The first birthday called for a strawberry cake with strawberry icing ! Since we had 25 people we needed two cakes. One cake serves 14-16 people so I bought two. I came to pickup the cakes and they smelled great. That night we served one because we had less than twenty-five and the cake served 15 easily with lots of small pieces leftover. The table munched on the scraps till nothing was left. Disappointed ... checked with Stripplings and their cakes were 7 days old, so I went to SugarBakers directly on Community Rd ... and bought a cake there. Well, the cake was so dry and not fresh and very disappointing. If you get a fresh cake, then nothing beats it because they are GREAT. I never thought to ask if it was fresh. But it appears those when you go in and ask for a cake, they direct you to a side shelf where they are stacked and boxed and not refrigerated ... DRY DRY DRY --- I never thought to ask if they were fresh cakes. if you want delicious, ASK first. Such a shame. Should have just gone to Publix! I gave this a 3 because I have had their FRESH CAKES ---- unbelievably delicious. But you gotta date the inventory because this cake was NOT fresh by d-a-y-s. So disappointed. read more

The customer service here is awesome! I stopped in after having dinner near by when soon after the sweet tooth cravings started to kick in and I found this gem on Yelp. We ordered a simple 2 layer 50th Wedding Anniversary cake via phone. We picked the cake up, which was securely wrapped, to transport to our destination and added our own flowers. It was one of the most delicious cakes we have ever eaten. Sugar Bakers makes the best pies and cakes for all occasions. Their cheese straws are the best. Just a little spicy with the perfect mix of cheeses. The Reverse Bartlett is just about the best cake I have ever eaten. And if you really want a treat try the Strawberry Short Cake. The assortment of bars are amazing, the lemon bars are my favorite. All of the staff are always so nice and friendly. If I can't find my husband he is usually there getting his "sugar" at Sugar Bakers. It is not the product I am dissatisfied with but the customer service. I have been in the store several times and it is more common than not that I am treated very poorly as a customer. Responses are short and rude and I even get looks that aren't very friendly. The other day I called for the first time to order something and the lady was very short and unfriendly. Especially since this bakery advertises on the Christian radio station, I would expect much friendlier service and better customer appreciation. read more

Sugarbakers did our wedding cake for our wedding on Sapalo Island. It was the best. Butter pecan. We asked for the cake to be decorated to match the beach theme of the wedding,and they out did themselves. Sugared seashells. We also ordered cheese straws and wedding cookies. Our guests raved about the baked goods. The top layer of the cake was just as good one year later. Whenever anyone is going to be in the Brunswick area, I always put in an order. And when my husband's birthday arrived, he was surprised with a cake from Sugarbakers. read more

Rude and condescending staff. I go in to order my wife a birthday cake and I'm told by the person in charge (I think it was the owner) that it can't be done. I explain that I've ordered the same cake every year for several years and the response is a volley of condescending questions about the cake. I felt belittled and I promptly left the establishment. There was no reason for that kind of treatment, especially from a business that claims to promote christian values. I don't expect anyone to kiss my rear end; but I refuse to spend my hard earned money in an establishment where the owner gets their rocks off by arguing with the customers. I went to Sugarbakers to get a custom smash cake for my son's first birthday. The cashier was very friendly, but was uncertain about my request. I was asking for a small cake in the shape of a t-bone steak, (not a realistic one, more like the rubber dog toys that you find) or a simple necktie. The man who was working, who I was told was responsible for the cake decorating, told me that it was not possible, even after I drew out the image that I wanted. His exact quotes were 'If someone has a gun to my grandmother's head, I could possibly do a necktie.' and 'If it involves drawing, I probably can't do it'. If you can't draw a simple necktie, than you shouldn't be decorating custom cakes for a living. Again, the cashier and the rest of the employees there were pleasant, and it's my understanding that the products there are very good, but after service like that I would never recommend them to anyone. read more
