It's a spring and summer must-stop for visitors, who come by the carload for a taste of locally-made ice cream or one of their many made-in-house candy treats. When my kids were little, we often camped at the nearby state park and rode our bikes here for some sweet goodness. Yesterday, my daughter and mom and I stopped in on a little Mother's Day trip to Blaine, and enjoyed some ice cream cones on their beautiful front porch. My daughter also bought some chocolate-covered confections to take home - and honestly, I'm regretting I didn't do the same. As far as candy and ice cream goes, their prices are definitely "tourist" level, but you do get what you pay for in terms of freshness, quality, and supporting a true Pacific Northwest family-friendly icon.

There was a weird experience though where they accidentally gave me the wrong flavor of soft serve and they said I could toss it and they'd make me a new one. But I let my family member have it since it was going to go to waste. The worker said they were going to charge me for the accidental cone if the other person ate. So either throw it away and they'll take it off the bill or eat it (they weren't going to order soft serve to start) and be charged. So we tossed it because my family member wasn't gonna eat all of it anyways. Either way, a weird back and forth encounter!

While the frozen yogurt tastes fine and the toppings are standard, the cost is completely unjustifiable. The pay-by-weight system is incredibly deceptive. The cups are oversized, making it hard to judge portion sizes, especially for kids. Before you know it, you are looking at a massive bill for a self-serve dessert. Paying premium restaurant prices for frozen yogurt where you do all the work yourself feels like a complete rip-off.

While out exploring Bellingham, my friend wanted Ice cream, and this came up as nearby - so off we went. Right within Waypoint Park Cryo rolls is part of a complex. The two young ladies eagerly greeted us and our pups as we came in and explained to us how it all worked. We picked from the available flavors and asked if we liked toppings added. They were very nice about accommodating and customizing for my friend who is vegan. I went with the "Trix" which was exactly how it sounded...and tasted! If you've ever had a bowl of trix and the milk starts to taste like the cereal as you're eating it, that's exactly how this tasted. It was great. Took me back to childhood. They were also kind enough to hook us up with some "pup cups" for our little guys which they definitely enjoyed. What I really like is how well the ice cream holds. It was pretty warm out and I was able to give my pup his pup cup and was able to eat my ice cream without it melting out. If I'm up here again, I'll be sure to stop in hopefully the Trix will remain a main offering.
