For the Quarry trail, I recommend parking along the main road if you find a parking spot. The parking lot at the trailhead is tiny, and always full. Lots of trails for hiking, mountain biking, and horse riding. It is a beautiful area with hills, Foresthill bridge, lake, and the river. I am not an avid hiker. More of a leisurely stroller. There are various trails with different elevation gains, distance, and difficulty. Most of the time that I came out to this area is to just hike near the confluence and sit along the river bank and take in the sights and sounds. If you go in the summer, just be aware that the temperatures can hit triple digits during the day and there can be very little shade on the trails. There is no potable water stations on the trails. Parking is limited to what is available along the side of the road near the trailheads. The spots fill up quickly on the weekend. The fee is $10. But from April 1- October 1 on the weekends 9am-5pm, there is a transit bus rides from designated areas in Auburn to the Ranger station at the confluence crossing (near Highway 49 and Old Foresthill Road). The rides need to be reserved though, details on the ride program (cost, reservations, route) are on the state parks website. The ASRA is managed by the State of California Parks Department.

Had a great time here this weekend. Only took 2 hours and 15 minutes to get here, the 2.5 mile…read moredirt road was not nearly as bad as others reviewing would have me believe. Have a Subaru forester - not a huge clearance vehicle and was just fine. We got here Friday about 2:30pm - first ones here. It was overcast and perfect temperature. Very dry. Gorgeous river. Sites 1, 2, 3 leave a bit to be desired - small and/or on top of each other, 5 is small but pretty and overlooks a big parking area used for day rafter parking. We chose 4 - open, big and with a large live oak for shade. All sites were "on" the river. Bathrooms were very clean and the sites were too, with the exception of an enormous amount of cigarette butts. My friend's back was a bit hurt, so we didn't do a bunch of hiking - and I'm glad for that because Saturday was 80+ and very dry. Walked about 1.5 miles up the dirt road looking for the "waterfall" - we saw some runoff from the hills into the water - perhaps that was it. Regardless, it was a nice walk and very pretty. Odd about this campsite: both nights we had visitors who came after dark and left before morning. The first was just a couple who stayed for a few hours in site 5 - and didn't bother us. The second night, we had visitors at the site right next to us. They arrived at 8pm, two very small crying children in tow. They opened and closed their vehicle doors about a gazillion times, set up a tent, used their car headlights at their "lamp" and started blaring rap music. Uh uh! Friend marched over and very kindly asked them to lower the music. They did. Then they proceeded to burn brush as their firewood and when we got up at 7am, they had cleared out, leaving a bunch of trash at their site. Odd. The park service representative was uber nice and came every day - we never did see the ranger. We loved this place and would definitely come back to do some trail hiking when feeling more physically able.

This campground had a nice view , alms the river was right off the campsite , theirs 5 of them…read more It's a self pay 28 dollars a night which is on the cheaper side. Now the down fall was their was only a port of potty bathroom and no faucet water. Their happen to be a lot of bees but I think that could be normal. Also, the ride down is really rocky and should probably be paved or at least put down a full gravel road. Overall I like this campground j just need to be more prepared but im not sure if I would spend the night being their isn't showers.

He had lots of knowledge about the California gold rush and it was nice to learn about it as an adult who didn't grow up in CA (I'm sure my 12yo loved learning about it too). While we camped at Earthtrek, it was super helpful that our trip included breakfast, 2 lunches (one lunch mid-rafting trip), and dinner. All meals were delicious and it was nice that there were gluten free options. The OARS site is spacious, with clean facilities, and a small shop for items. Now on to the rafting experience! For some background, my husband was the only one who had ever done it so my kiddo and I were newbies. Along with another kiddo and adult, we rafted through class 1-3 rapids and I never felt that we were not safe (despite me being the weakest swimmer in the family). Alec was truly a guide in every sense of the word. He prepped us before taking on the rapids - gave us the route we would take, what to expect in terms of how we were to paddle and what we had to do. We played some fun boat games and spent some time floating in the river which my husband and son loved. Also included were the always fun brain teaser riddles that had all of us entertained during the floating portions of our trip. After completing the class 3 rapids and all staying in the raft, we felt on top of the world and wanted to do more! If you have ever thought about trying white water rafting, do it - you won't regret it! It's truly an experience and a great time in nature with the family. OARS is a professional and inclusive company, with great guides!

Awesome 1/2 day with Robert and John to close out their 2026 season!…read more We went as a group of 2 and shared a raft with another two groups of 2, and a group of 5 took the other. We were fitted with life jackets, helmets, and they had a box to store keys plus a bag for water bottles. They did a safety briefing before we headed out on the water. Robert was very patient with our group as we needed to get synced with paddling lol we got there eventually! I appreciated that he rattled off the rapid names as we went through. There were 2 photo ops but it's a separate company and price for photos. Felt very safe and Robert was really knowledgeable! They also navigated us past slower groups and there were a couple spots we had the option to jump out and swim briefly. We had a good 3ish hours on the water, and it's about a 15-20 min drive in the van back to the main meetup point where you park. Overall, great company and looking forward to our next trip!
