Go to Sugaar for the vibe, the cool-looking crowd and for the service. Do not go to it for the food. Upstairs, it's a snug room with low (flattering) lighting including candlelight, small tables close together and wine bottle-lined shelves. Our servers - attractive 20-something women - were friendly and attentive. The wine menu, like many in France, runs to 10+ pages with bottles starting at €63 -- and going up quickly from there. We ordered the tomato tarte which according to my partner tasted like it was made from canned tomatoes (or at least fresh tomatoes that were badly mistreated) and lacked any seasoning, pommes purée that tasted of nothing and screamed for at least salt, a fish dish that the server described as "delicious gelatinous white fish cheeks" (my partner described them as "interesting"), and the best thing we ate, a simply dressed green salad. Correction: the best thing we ate was the fish spread that came with good bread when we sat down. Overall, 4 stars for atmosphere. 2.5 stars for food. read more
