Gotta say, I've had wildly mixed experiences with BoB over the years. From snotty counter help to…read morecakes not designed as discussed. This last experience, well, it takes the cake. I was gifted a birthday cake and the first piece ticked a lot of positive boxes, but left something in my mouth. Literally. It was almost the consistency of shredded coconut and I dismissed it as such because I didn't order the cake so wasn't sure what the person who had ordered it had asked for. The second piece, same thing - only this time I noticed I couldn't really bite through whatever the mystery shavings were. I've been baking for over 40 years and as I considered what "whatever" it was could've been, it wasn't the right consistency for coconut. I managed to pull a bit of it off my tongue and the only thing I could liken it to in my years of baking was when I accidentally shredded part of a rubber spatula and it ended up in the cake. I was able to track it down to the frosting. Specifically the blue. I scraped all the blue frosting off and tried a small piece and no more mystery matter. I plopped all the blue frosting that was left, which was mostly a set of frosting balloons, in the sink drain. I first ran hot water over it and this was what was left. The attached image shows what is left - after having used the sink for FOUR DAYS. It still hasn't broken down. If it were butter and powdered sugar it would've been gone long ago. I don't know what that was/is, but I don't see myself eating another one of their cakes anytime soon.

I thought I'd written a review about this place before but to my shock I had not…read more I have been coming here since the day they opened, infrequently beacuse I am diabetic but when I want to spoil my body with delicious sugar, honey, this is *IT*. Now I could tell you all about how perfectly tasty everything is. From the classic banana puddings (I prefer the caramel version myself,) to the cookies, to the pineapple upside-down mini cakes. Yes, I could tell you that. But I want to speak to something deeper. I want to speak to belonging and community; and to fairness. As a biracial person with a brown sister, I feel the pull to support black and brown businesses. It's not a secret. And sometimes you do it, and sometimes you privately think "Damn. I wanna be supportive but this place is a mess." Then there's Sweet Life. NOT that. FILLED with good product at a great price, delivered by owners and staff who actually give a damn about being loving and supportive to all different types of people. And did I mention the sweets are POPPIN'? And to that statement of fairness. Today I came in to place an order, and when the price came up, for a moment I thought "Damn. That is a lot higher than I remembered, but I am not about to question them. They set the price and that price is what they deserve." So I paid. But then I noticed there was more in my bag that I'd asked for, and that there had been a miscommunication. When I tell you that this miscommunication was corrected with swiftness *AND* a smile. No shade. No drama. Just an "Ooops, oh well, here's your refund on the balance." I know this seems very basic but we all know it isn't. We have all been in that awkward situation where as a customer we have to point out an error, and the vendor turns it into a Shakespearan tragedy. Not Sweet Life. "Oops. Sorry! Fixed. Love you." So, to recap: Stunningly delicious sweets. Prices fair as hell. Communicative, inclusive staff doing the right thing. You need to take those money dollers and haul your ass over here TODAY. Now...where did I put my insulin pen?

I ate way more than this pic shows because each flavor is its own unique flavor. The No Nana banana pudding (not shown) is the truth!! If you struggle with dairy and miss banana pudding--- get it. It was my favorite delight. I got my wife the pineapple upside down cake. She loved it! Sweet, slightly gooey and perfectly portioned. The people there are great. That make you feel like you're picking a wedding ring. Giving personal recommendations and the extra sophistication you wouldn't expect at a cupcake place on south street. They have it all and i will go back for more and i highly recommend them, especially the no-nana pudding (not pictured).

(Not sure who the delivery service was. Flavor replaced the order without *too much* of an issue.) In November, I stopped in to get something for a friend's birthday, and bought a 4-pack for them. Staff were super friendly & answered my questions easily. Feed back on the cupcakes was thumbs up all around. There were about a dozen flavor options (I think), & they all sounded good. Ended up selecting the Snickerdoodle, Cookies n Cream, & 2 of the chocolate-peanut butter because the recipient is a big fan of pb cups. I no longer work in that area but I will likely be back soon for another special occasion. I get noticed for their specials and they're so tempting. Yummmm!

When I went in frustrated to talk about this, an employee named Brooke smugly looked at me and rolled her eyes while I expressed frustration at not being able to get a hold of them. She shook her head and had a huge attitude with me as I explained that I just wanted an update on my cheesecake. The customer service was horrible if they can't even update regular customers on a simple cheesecake I can't imagine how nerve-racking it would be to hire these people to do a catered event like a wedding or a birthday. The front employee Brooke was smug, snide, and extremely disrespectful enough that I will never go back again after that being my very first experience there.

The woman at the counter was kind and smily, helping us to know what the different flavor options were like. We ultimately bought two slices each to share over the next few days at home, but we immediately broke into the Biscoff cheesecake and knew we had chosen wisely. This is hands down the best cheesecake I've ever had. A beautiful layer of caramel on top, perfectly dense cheesecake filling, and delicious cookie crust. I could write a song about it. Maybe I will. This is a 5/5 cheesecake. Maybe more. We also tried the lemon blueberry cheesecake, which I would rate a 4/5. The filling seemed to be more lemon than blueberry, but there were blueberries inside. I would have loved a blueberry swirl as well. But I'm nitpicking. The third flavor we tried was the millionaire cheesecake, with chocolate crunch, chocolate layer (maybe caramel as well, I'm not sure) and chocolate crust. Another excellent flavor, 4.5/5. If you're keeping track you'll know I only mentioned 3 flavors, but we bought 4 slices. That's because we each had to have our own slice of the Biscoff! It's that good! GO GET SOME!
