Unfortunately, in this case, it did. I've been here a few times for lashes and once previously for hair, and my first hair appointment was great. The stylist was gentle, communicative, and professional. I loved my hair, was shown products afterward, and happily purchased them. I left feeling taken care of. This second hair appointment was a completely different experience. I was greeted by a young stylist who seemed pleasant and understood what I wanted. However, once she began, I immediately noticed she had extremely long, sharp acrylic nails (about 1.5-2 inches). While I have nothing against acrylics--I wear them myself--there needs to be a limit in a professional setting, especially when working so closely with a client's scalp and hair. She colored my hair without gloves, which already made me uncomfortable. Throughout brushing, coloring, and washing, my hair repeatedly got caught in her lifting acrylics. My hair was yanked out multiple times, and at points it was genuinely painful. Holding a brush seemed difficult for her, and the brushing was rough and uncomfortable. The shampoo experience was by far the worst I've ever had. Normally, that's my favorite part of a salon visit. Instead, due to her nails, she couldn't properly massage or clean my scalp. The shampoo barely reached my roots, yet my hair was pulled the most at the bowl. My scalp was sore for two days afterward, to the point where brushing hurt. I'm a mom of three and a full-time college student, so self-care time is rare. I was really looking forward to relaxing--maybe even reading--but it was hard to focus through the discomfort. On top of that, the stylist seemed mentally checked out, asking me the same questions twice and lacking awareness of the situation. When the service ended, she simply removed my robe and said thanks for coming. No walk-out, no product recommendations. I had planned on purchasing shampoo, conditioner, and heat protectant again, but I left without anything. I still paid for the service and left a tip. After taking a few days to cool off, I felt this needed to be said. This experience was unsanitary, painful, and disappointing. My hair turned out "meh"--the haircut felt rushed, I didn't get the layers I asked for, and highlights alone don't make up for the experience. I truly loved coming here, but after this, it won't be my salon anymore. If you come here for hair services, I strongly recommend choosing a stylist whose nails allow them to work safely, hygienically, and comfortably--preferably ones that can fit inside gloves.

I loved my experience with Betty Lou she was so sweet and funny and calmed all my nerves before my Brazilian. She was very informative about the process describing each step before she did it so I knew what to expect beforehand. There was no guesswork on my behalf. Let's be real, getting a Brazilian is pretty intrusive and as this was my first one EVER she never once made me feel self conscious. She plays funny movies to keep you preoccupied throughout your visit which was a nice touch too The after care was explained to me in great detail and the goodie bag to take home for your after care was adorable the office and bathroom are decorated cute and smell amazing and she even offers you a shot to take before the procedure All in all I would recommend Betty Lou to anyone looking for sugar or waxing services. Big and hairy! This is a bad combination especially when the pain makes you sweat on areas of like the skin fold!!! Ugh!!! However, the results are beyond satisfying! I always have the fan on me when the sugaring becomes intense on every visit! This is to ensure they are getting all the hair out and providing great customer satisfaction. Unfortunately, I'm a semi big girl so the prices for us vary from 5-10 depending on the area. I am fine with that because Betty takes pride in her work and is a perfectionist when it comes to getting every hair. She is very laid back and friendly but a professional at the same time. If you have any questions about price, she posts a full menu under the pictures here on her yelp page. She has always told me the price up front, never any surprises at the cash register. Hairy!!! Absolutely I've done waxing, chemicals, plucking I would always end up swollen with red welts for days then I would end up with tiny bumps that would not go away I looked like a teenager with really bad acne it was so bad the esthetician I went to said she couldn't even give me a facial till my face had time to heal. Then I heard of sugaring decided would give it a try. Got on Yelp saw Sugar cookies reviews!! Went in Betty is amazing the spa is clean and you leave feeling like you've know Betty for years. The best part of the whole experience I had no welts I was a little red but that was to be expected when you remove all the hair from your face. I am 40 and have never done any kind of waxing or sugar cookie appointment before. This was my first time so I was definitely nervous going in for my first Brazilian wax. But Betty Lou couldn't have done a better job making me feel comfortable. She offered me a shot, played a movie for me and talked to me like we were old friends throughout the whole process. She showed me the products and explained the everything she was going to do. She was so wonderful I didn't even feel shy about laying half naked on the table...lol. She goes over all the aftercare in detail and supplies you with the products needed. I can be sensitive and with following her instructions I didn't get any irritation or bumps....it's just soooo smooth! I've been getting Brazilian waxes for over 10 years at various locations in multiple cities (including NYC), and Betty is hands down the best I've ever been to. This isn't just a random salon where the owner took a couple classes on sugaring/waxing and opened shop. Betty knows her job inside out. She is also super sweet, really funny and very cool. I've been a regular customer for almost a year, and have no intention of going elsewhere. I highly, highly recommend you try this salon. I've been going to Sugar Cookie Spa shortly after she opened. I've had nothing but Wonderful Experiences there I would not ever go anywhere else. When she went on vacation & she recommended a couple other places but I chose to wait for her to come back. Betty has been nothing but generous, hard working and very caring to her clients. She sends out text msg reminders, if u forget ur appt that's ur problem n loss, be considerate give a call or text. She will do her best to get u back in asap. Absolutely recommend this place! I have never had any form of sugaring done, but after my experience at Sugar Cookie, I'm never returning to wax. Coming from being a waxer myself, it is very rare you let just anyone wax you, let alone trying something other than wax. And to say the least I'm so glad I did. Betty the owner is a Esthetician herself and was super nice, booked me on short notice and totally helped me prepare for my appointment. Then, Melissa the esthetician who waxed me, did the most amazing job. So gentle and knowledgable and totally got every hair! Melissa was amazing!!! I'd had a horrific experience with waxing my first time (at a different establishment) and was hesitant to try again but sugaring is so much better! I was cheerfully greeted by Betty (I think she's the owner) and Melissa and they walked me through the procedure. Let's be honest, waxing is never fun. However, I highly recommend going here. Betty was down to earth and always kept in contact via text or phone. When I got there she was kind enough to tell me about the materials she was going to use, what the process was, and how everything would do. If you thought getting a bikini wax couldn't be fun, you clearly haven't been to Sugar Cookie Spa. I have had numerous other waxes (hard and soft wax) at other salons in the Puyallup/Tacoma area but had never tried sugaring. Betty Lou explained everything to me and made me feel very comfortable. So it has been a little while since the last review. The regrowth continues to become thinner and thinner. The maintenance sessions shorter and more comfortable. The addition of an optional heating pad adds to the comfort level. The addition of video in the procedure rooms is a nice distraction but music is still my choice. When I decided to do sugar waxing and chose to go to this location, Betty Lou and her assistant was able to provide a smoother and healthier Manzilian! When I finally got inside, I was told Alexandra the esthetician I was booked with was still with another client. By then it was almost 1:00 PM, 30 minutes after my scheduled appt. I ended up having to cancel one of my services because I no longer had time. Thankfully Cindy was able to squeeze me in for my brows, which I appreciated, but the esthetician (Alexandra) I was originally scheduled with finished late and then immediately took another client while I had been waiting almost 30 minutes past my appointment time. Taking the client of Cindy who was finished with my services and would've been prepped for her next had she asked the client to wait 1 more minute. For an "upscale" salon, the whole experience felt very disorganized and inconsiderate of my time. Despite a new employee or not there is no excuse for a 30 minute delay, when customers would've been charged a fee if roles were reversed. A discount or some kind of acknowledgment for the delay would have been appreciated, but I still paid full price after everything. I would not recommend. Take your money elsewhere.

So my man stepped inside the salon to see to check out waiting times while I stayed in the car. Shortly after, he comes back looking like he'd just experienced the most bizarre thing in his life. "She screamed at me," he said. "Wait what??" I asked bewildered. He went on to tell me that he waited there respectfully since the lady was doing someone's hair. When the lady turned and saw him waiting, she screamed. I did clarify that she didn't just squeal or gasp, but screamed. He said after she screamed, she told him he 'surprised her' and 'didn't see him there'. I asked if she apologized for screaming at him, since he's just a harmless average build Scottish guy with short hair and glasses. He said she never did. A convenient resolution is to add a bell to the front door. Not sure how bad this neighborhood is, but it'd be worth considering if you were genuinely worried for safety, or tend to scream when you have guests walking into the salon.
