    Bakery Case

I stopped by Sugar Bakery with my dad on our way up to Santa Cruz. After seeing videos online, I needed to partake in the crunchy fruit cup! I arrived around 1:30 PM on a Saturday and the line was about five people out the door. We were only in line for maybe 12 minutes before we were at the counter, they still had over 30 fruit cups in the display counter and might have been hiding more in the back. $35 and cold, the crunch on these were phenomenal. They nailed the flavor, I was worried things would taste artificial but everything was made with real ingredients- there were chunks of mango falling out of the center. There are a few tables inside. Phenomenal through and through. We had our share in the parking lot and put the rest in the cooler for the beach!

Fun viral crunchy fruit desserts. Prices weren't too bad. Had a 2+ hour drive home and they gave me an ice pack with my goodie and they stayed good all the way home. My favorite was the hazelnut. The shop is very cute with some good photo opportunities.

Okay, I broke down and had to try the viral crunchy desserts. I went around 12:30 and there were only 4 people ahead of me. They had all of the normal sized selection but had ran out of the minis. They said they made 75 mini cups and they all sold out in the first hour!! I didn't really know what to expect but they were really good. Pleasing to the eye, nice crunch and yummy inside sort of like mouse and jam. Definitely high quality and such a neat treat.

I like this little business in Capitol. The bakery looks cute. we try to support the small businesses in Santa Cruz. I am a regular customer who buys macarons, honey cake, cookies. They no longer bake custom cakes. This surprised me just Well, since they state on their page that they make cakes for birthdays, weddings, and other celebrations... They took orders for cakes--or rather, you could place an order in advance. The service has become very meager. Prices High--above the level But the taste of the cake isn't the same anymore--it's not what it used to be. I am disappointed in this bakery.

My niece has been bugging me to take her here so today we finally did it was a little pricey to be honest but we had to have it at least once $35 for the cup of minis but not all flavors were involved so we had to get the other 2 flavors of course I mean, we drove all the way from San Jose so gotta try all the flavors

Update!! I came back to try out the viral crunchy desserts. I got a mango one and a coconut one. I like the mango one better but they were both very sweet. I get that the name is sugar bakery, but I think that there could've been a way to contrast the flavors better without it just being super sweet. The crunch inside of the coconut one was a good touch. However, they were both kind of expensive for how much the store is producing and selling. I still wouldn't recommend unfortunately. The crunch wasn't anything crazy!

I came to this bakery without any expectations, and OMG their red velvet cookie with cheesecake was amazing! Perfectly stuffed, not too sweet, and delightfully rich. I also tried the macarons, and they were absolutely delicious. Definitely coming back!

My friend surprised me with some macaroons from Sugar Bakery and these are undoubtedly THE BEST macaroons I've ever had!!! They were delicious and so beautifully handcrafted. I shared them with my family and the consensus was unanimous: AMAZING! Of the ones I tried, my favorite was the white one which had a decadent chocolate and peanut butter filling. The next time I head down to Capitola, I'll definitely have to stop by and grab a box.

Stopped by Ulta and took a quick walk through the mall to see if anything was actually open. Well this place was new and open so we stopped to see what they had. Picked up a 4 pack of macarons. The amount of filling in the macarons is nice, especially for the price. The fillings were decently flavored. I liked the chocolate on the best. The ganache was a little thinner and sweeter than what I'm used to but it was good. I would say their shells need some work as there wasn't much flavor and a couple shells were hollows. I would prefer the macaron shells chewier too.

    Giant macaron. Sweeeeeeeeet!

Visited their shop in Capitola Mall. Too early for the honey cake but bought a few of the gigantic macarons for my colleagues. The gal working the counter was very kind and helpful. Their product very sweet so we enjoy as an infrequent treat.

Best "fat cookies" in all of Santa Cruz. Great service and great treats. Definitely recommend if you got that sweet tooth.

Ate lunch in the area but had to grab some scoops from the oval spot. I ordered the thin mint and chocolate/peanut butter double in a waffle cone. It was ice cream perfection! The mint was fresh and tasty with HUGE chunks of chocolate and the peanut butter/chocolate was deep and rich. The waffle cone added a nice crunch overall. The employees were friendly, fast, and helpful in answering questions about ingredients and allowing a few samples. Shop is small but was walk through so the layout works well being on the corner or a busy intersection. Highly recommend Polar Bear Ice Cream - like, seriously, you have to stop here!!

The menu has a good range of flavors and you can sample and try any that you might be interested in. My mom got the lemon sorbet after sampling a blackberry flavor and a honey lavender one. I opted to skip the samples and choose one of my go-to flavors - thin mint, which was delicious. It was such a refreshing treat! The shop also has some seating and chairs where you can sit and enjoy your ice cream. The prices were pretty reasonable and while we ordered junior scoops, the portion size was larger than expected. Definitely recommend!

When my boyfriend and I walked in, one of the employees was having a conversation with what looked like friends. I didn't mind at first because there were two other employees standing at the front, so I assumed one of them would help us. Instead, we stood there for several minutes without anyone acknowledging us. I understand if the other employees weren't assigned to the register, but what bothered me was that no one even took a second to say, "We'll be with you shortly." A simple acknowledgment goes a long way and would have made a big difference. The lack of customer service and communication made us feel ignored so we just ended up leaving and went some place else. As someone who has supported this business for a long time, it was disappointing. I hope management addresses this because good customer service is just as important as the product itself.

Food: 5 stars. Service: 3 stars…read more The food was excellent and made the visit worthwhile. The staff, however, came across as a bit cold and unfriendly. I get that it's beach time and things move at a different pace, but being a little nicer to customers and visitors would make a big difference. Hopefully next time the service will be as good as the food. EDITED - Saturday, June 20, 2026 I'm updating my review after reading the owner's response. First, I want to clarify that the response appears to be a copy-and-paste message aimed at people leaving negative reviews. If you had actually read my original review, you would have noticed that I never complained about the food, the wait time, prices, staffing, or anything related to the quality of the business itself. In fact, I enjoyed the food and had no issue waiting. I visited on a Thursday, and the café wasn't packed. The owner was clearly working hard, and I respect that. However, when I walked in and said hello, I was completely ignored. There was no greeting, no acknowledgment, and no sense that my business was appreciated. That was the only reason I left a 3-star review in the first place. The response talks about staffing shortages, minimum wage, food costs, and the challenges of running a small business. I understand all of that. Running a business is difficult. But those challenges don't really address the point I was making. A simple "Hi," "Welcome," or even a quick smile costs nothing and goes a long way. I also don't think customers should be made to feel responsible for business challenges such as labor costs or rent. Those are realities of ownership that every business owner has to navigate. That said, after thinking about it, I'm changing my review from 3 stars to 5 stars because the food was genuinely good, and I do support small businesses. My hope is simply that future customers are greeted with a little more warmth and appreciation when they walk through the door. One final thought: when someone leaves a critical review, it may be worth responding directly to their experience rather than posting a generic response. Sometimes there's valuable feedback hidden inside reviews that aren't really about the food at all. I wish you and your business success, and I genuinely hope you continue serving great food for years to come.

I ordered a latte with almond milk, and it was made to perfection--smooth, rich, and nicely strong. My husband had a mocha with almond milk, which he also really enjoyed. We decided to take our coffee to go and sit by the beach, which is just one block away. We will definitely be back."
