I'm so happy to write this review because I'm in the midst of a life changing event. You see, last January, I was involved in an incident and suffered multiple injuries to most of my body, but mainly to my head, neck and left shoulder. I was seen and treated by my personal physician and diagnosed with a concussion and many contusions throughout my body, but nothing was broken and I had displayed good mobility and passed all of the tests. My doctor told me to take ibuprofen to help with the pain and swelling, and that it would take anywhere from a few weeks to months for everything to heal. After several more visits to my doctor over the course of the next couple weeks, all of my visible injuries were healed, but the pain in my left shoulder grew more intense and moved from one place to another. The pain pushed me to my limits and I missed some time at work because my shoulder wasn't functioning properly and the pain was sometimes so sharp and intense, even just breathing hurt it. I did not sleep well and on some nights I'd wake up in severe pain from my shoulder. My doctor told me to take more ibuprofen before I slept (HMOs kinda suck because of this). This went on for 5 weeks, then one night, I was hanging out with a friend and the pain in my shoulder began to flare up, so my friend suggested that I consult a chiropractor, since it was free and I agreed. I woke up the next morning in the worst pain yet, and I could barely move my left arm. I called Dr. Reuben and he agreed to see me right away.
This was my first visit to a chiropractor and I was skeptical. I always thought chiropractic medicine was kinda wacky and the thought of anyone cracking my back scared me. I'm happy I was so wrong. I arrived that morning at his office in a lot of pain and nervous as hell. I was greeted by the office manager, Tina, who walked me through the paperwork and made me feel right at home. It wasn't the cold experience of being handed a clipboard and then retreating a waiting area to be called upon to a small window to submit the completed papers with nary a "thank you." Tina is so personable, she even shared her first chiropractic experience with me and before I knew it, I was at ease sitting in the sunny and warm office space waiting anxiously to be seen. I was still in a lot of pain when Dr. Reuben began his consultation with me. He explained in detail what he thought was going on with my body and how my shoulder could benefit from his treatment. He educated me on the practice and it made a lot of sense to me that I opted for a full examination right there on the spot. He explained in detail every step of the examination and the clinical devices used. Then, he adjusted my C1 and I immediately felt a positive difference along my spine, brain and shoulder. It was like a small river from my brain to my ailing shoulder was dammed up by pesky beavers, and as soon as my C1 was adjusted the dam was broken and the river was flowing again. He told me to breath deeply, take a long walk and drink lots of water. I left his comfy office feeling euphoric and did as he told me. Within hours, the pain had subsided to a general soreness, which was a new experience for me during this traumatic time. I can honestly say that I have not woken up to any pain in my shoulder since seeing Dr. Reuben, and for that I am so grateful.
Now, I see Dr. Reuben 3 times a week for an adjustment, but it is so much more than that really. He's a teacher, educating me about his practice; a friend, supporting me in my healing and strengthening of my shoulder and central nervous system; and a life coach, counseling me on ways to improve my body, mind and soul...from the inside out! read more
