I came to Dr Rueben for Sciatic pain based on the recommendation of my neighbor who had seen him for back issues that went away completely after his treatment (he always jokes that the fact that he hasn't had to see Dr Rueben in years is a testament to his abilities lol). (It also helped that he has almost 100 5 star rating on google and not a single negative review) I had slept on my couch for a few days while my brother was visiting me and had such bad sciatic pain I couldn't drive or sit for very long, my doctor at Kaiser told me to just wait it out and after a month of pain I decided to try a chiropractor. What really impressed me was the thorough and in depth information that he provides. You get an X-ray which he analyses and explains to you during the following visit, followed by a treatment plan. Dr Rueben was able to identify trauma to my neck, and the age around which I had received it, stemming from a snowboarding accident where I landed on my head (thanks for the helmet dad!) that I had completely forgotten about. Slowly, adjustment by adjustment my sciatica and whole back neck and shoulders started to feel better and better, and now I can say my sciatica pain no longer bothers me. I've gone to a few chiropractors over the years and they have fixed immediate issues, such as after a fall or accident, but about half were quacks and the other half were personally insufferable. Admittedly scientists (like me) are not easy patients. I had a friend who has been going to Dr Reuben for years and after a fall last autumn I had to have help, so I gave him a try. Doc Rubin found injuries from 35+ years ago that I had forgotten. He also identified my neck injuries (car accident) from 3 years ago, where UCSD medical with all the modern equipment; MRIs, X-rays didn't find. and UCSD's treatments didn't go any where. Okay... this is my 6th time being adjusted by Dr. Ruben. I know there are some great long term effects of this work, but let me share with you some of the instantaneous effects. So I'm training for the Aids Life Cycle... which means that I bike for about 8 hours, 100 miles in a weird position through farmland and hay fields. Needless to say, twice I have awakened at 2am unable to breath, with a full-tilt histamine attack that will ruin me the next day. Yesterday I popped a handful of Claritin hoping to breath - to no result. I woke up again this morning miserable, and decided to go see Dr. Ruben. After a 15 minute adjustment, MY NOSE IS COMPLETELY CLEAR. I can breath again! This is the second time in two weeks that his adjustment has completely cleared up my allergies. In addition to all of that, I'm walking taller and I can feel that my digestion has improved. I love Dr. Ruben's style. He doesn't try to pop everything in site all at once. He gives you just the amount of adjustment that your body can handle (this is pretty important if you don't want to feel weird all day). Heard this place was AMAZING! Called to get a "walk-in" appointment for an emergency adjustment, and was met in the phone by a man who sounded like talking to us was the LAST thing he cared about at 8am on a Monday morning. "We don't accept walk-ins..." is all head said. Never asked if we wanted to become a patient. Never mentioned a the new patient special. Never tried to build any type of relationship. Didn't care if we came in or refered them or not. By the way he acted, I can ONLY assume that this place must be jammed packed to the gills with patients. We were super stoked on possibly (and FINALLY) finding a chiropractor for ongoing patient treatment. But no worries PBCG... we'll find someone else who actually gives a shit if we become patients or not. This review is only about the services of Dr. Reuben. I have been going three times a week for adjustments for the past few months after being referred by a close friend who is a chiropractor herself. I have over 20 years of contact sports damage that he is working out. The progress is slow moving, however, he is the first doctor who has been able to make a sizable positive dent in that build up of skeletal mess. Dr. Reuben does actual adjustments, not the "energy work" (which does absolutely nothing for me) that others do. His adjustments are real and provide actual relief. Because of him, I am able to sleep now without medication, which was a huge step, and that was only in the first week. I think it speaks to his laid back but precise clinical approach. He expects you to participate in the process and take care of your body outside the office, which is annoying at first but when you realize you're waking up feeling better than you have in years, you admit he's right and get with the program and your whole posture and outlook change. Dr. Reuben Rocks! He took great care of me before, during and after my pregnancy and now I "sorely" miss my weekly visits to see him since he's moved out of San Francisco. Team Tina & Dr Reuben always went the extra mile throughout my 2 years of care with them. I originally began my chiropractic care with a colleague of theirs who helped me heal my back when I threw it out in 2013. But once I met Dr. Reuben, I never wanted to go back to the other chiropractor. He is like an edgy Hip Cool Smart but Zen Mellow Doc, with tons of information and always thoroughly explaining every single step of my treatment with him. Super gentle and generous. Kind, warm and loving. All of the things I really needed as I went through these painful transitions in my healing journey. When I became pregnant with my 3rd child, I knew I had to continue receiving his care. I fully credit my daughter's lightning fast HOMEBIRTH (1 hour of pushing) to the care my body received throughout my pregnancy. He helped me to keep my body aligned and fluid so that it could be in the optimal position and space to do the intense labor & work of childbirth. Dr. Reuben & Tina also came for several Postpartum In Home visits to help me get back on my feet after my baby girl was born. Summary: Don't allow this office to use bully tactics to get you to sign legal documents, and ask everything you need to ask until you understand what rights you are giving up in order to protect yourself. These documents are designed to protect their business, not you, so just ask questions. This review will be to illustrate my experience at the office, and not the actual chiropractic service itself. I will do my best to leave any emotion out as this is fresh in my mind and to only state the facts of the event. I will not list any names as to respect the identity of the people involved. I don't typically write reviews, in fact almost never, but I feel as this is something the public should be well informed about before choosing this particular chiropractor. Upon arriving at the office the receptionist handed me four documents to sign - most of them fairly standard, with the exception of one of them which had more intricate legal wording. For the most part, I have no problem signing documents as long as I understand it's intended purpose. As a business owner, I always strive to understand what I sign, and my inquisitive nature is always looking to learn in and understand how things work in business and in life. I asked the receptionist for elaboration on this particular document, and I wanted clarification on some of the legal terms as I am not in the legal field - I was then given a rather vague answer by the receptionist, with a mild but certain passive aggressive attitude. She then said to me that most people just sign and have no problem with the document and that usually don't ever ask questions - "I don't have a problem, I said, I just want to understand what i'm signing". She then proceeded to tell me that she felt uncomfortable putting me in the doctor's table if I "already had that kind of mindset". Before I could even answer, she immediately recommended a chiropractor down the street that didn't make you sign documents and was "cheaper". Implying that money was an even variable in this conversation. The doctor, who was not far from us, came out and proceeded to give me a very clear and understandable explanation about the nature of the document, which was appreciated (thanks doc). I was perfectly willing and able to sign the document, although I thought I would voice my opinion to the doctor about how I don't think it's good business practice to send people to another chiropractor simply because they are inquisitive about one of their legal documents. The receptionist, who heard me deliver this feedback, took this as a personal attack and proceeded to emotionally began yelling non-sequiturs in the background, at which point I asked her to kindly let me finish my thought and not interrupt my delivery of the feedback. This seems to have stricken a chord with the doctor as I assume they have been working together quite some time and naturally has biased towards her. He then rudely asked me to leave the office as I could no longer be treated by him, or any other chiropractor in that office. Due to the heighten emotional levels of the receptionist, the doctor lost his sense of cool composure and fell into the same emotional energy as her (who had become frantic and defense) and who refused to have civilized communication without yelling. The doctor proceeded to ultimately call the police because he "felt threaten by my presence". Now, I am a big guy, but at no point did I make any threats or violent remarks toward them. It is not my intention to jeopardize their business, only to inform. My thoughts are that this chiropractic group is likely good at what they do, and I'm sure most people are rather happy with the treatment they receive, as long as they don't ask any question about what legal protections they are signing away, or how they can protect themselves in the case of malpractice. The fear of even the thought of a potential lawsuit causes their emotional triggers to go off and will pressure you into either signing or going to another chiropractor. read more

Dr. Reuben has been a huge blessing to our entire family but I'd like to specifically share what he has done for our 7 month old daughter. I had a VERY long (64 hour) labor. As would be expected, my daughter's head had some asymmetries. At her 2 month appointment her pediatrician said he wanted her to be seen by cranial specialists to determine if she would need a "doc band" (baby helmet) to help reshape her head. The cranial specialists did took digital images of her head and pointed out the numerous ways her head shape would need to be corrected. Since she was so young, they wanted to give it another month before deciding a next course of action. During that month, Dr. Reuben worked with our daughter doing "cranial sacral therapy". When we went back to the cranial specialists they were AMAZED at her progress in such a short period of time, told us to just keep doing what we were doing and that we didn't need to come back to them at all! He's also working with me to get aligned so that I don't have to have a repeat 64 hour labor, praise God! :) I'd like to also add that his entire staff is always incredibly welcoming and helpful! Dr. Reuben helped me to fix some pretty nagging neck pain. After my first couple treatments, I already was an inch or two taller (what??!!) and when surfing after those treatments felt like I had a new fresh set of shoulders. As a climber and surfer, my posture has never been better. I really feel like his long term, multiple treatment approach worked things thoroughly through by body and were able to resolve some pretty deeply held stress and tension in my neck and shoulders. WOW! I am so very thankful for Dr. Reuben and Tina (his wife and admin). I am very new to Chiropractic care, so I came to Dr. Reuben knowing almost nothing about the process. With that being said, I can tell he is extremely knowledgable and skilled in his profession by how much information he has shared with me so far. He teaches me how to properly care for not only my body, but my mind and spirit as well. I look forward to my appointments because I know when I leave I will feel, breathe, and think better than when I arrived. It is absolutely mind-blowing to me that after a simple alignment of my spine, I can feel the blood rush to parts of my body that I didn't even know were lacking oxygen! I started seeing Dr. Reuben in early January 2014. My main concern was being able to run pain-free (lower back and hamstrings complaining). Dr. Reuben performed a thorough intake exams to establish baseline function (cool technology spotlights the exact areas you know you need to fix), sent me for x-rays and started a treatment plan. Fast forward to May 2014. I was on a ~8 mile hike which included some left-over snow drifts. I was on my feet for 3-4 hours and never once sat down. I have nothing but great things to say about this place. First, I started coming here over a year ago and have been coming at least once a week since I've started. I initially came in to take care of some really bad pain that was in my neck and upper back from sitting at a desk all day in law school. It got to the point where I couldn't even focus on work it hurt so bad. But, after just a month or two with Dr. Reuben that pain went away and I am able to sit at a desk eight hours a day completely fine. One thing I want to adddress is the misconception about seeing a chiropractor. Some people think that you just need to see a chiropractor one time and you're going to be feeling good as new, but that is just not the case. Yes, you may feel immediate relief, but it takes time to mold and shape your spine to be in a healthy position/condition. That being said, Dr. Reuben likes to work with patients long term and that tends to scare them off. In reality, he cares deeply about his practice and does not want to be a one and done doctor, but someone who actually changes lives. After a year and a half of consistent work with him, my posture has a significantly improved, my upper back and neck pain rarely, if ever, are present, and I have literally seen (through x-rays) my spine being molded back into a normal position. Finally, today was a major breakthrough for me. I never thought to ask him about my sciatica issues until today and boy was I so pleasantly surprised! For a couple of years now I have also been living with some minor hip/butt pain on my right side when I walk and I've gotten so used to it that I forgot what it was like to walk normal. After today's session with him doing some crazy and painful stretches, I walked out of there COMPLETELY painless.... I even felt like I was using muscles in my right leg again that hadn't been used in years because my body was compensating for the sciatica. This was in one session!!!! Guys, this is worth every penny. Although, I will say that Dr. Reuben has been so accommodating with setting up payment plans for people because he cares that much about helping. If you're looking to get rid of long term pain and discomfort this is an INVESTMENT THAT PAYS OFF. I can't thank Dr. Reuben enough. read more

I don't write reviews that often, but when I come across an establishment that far surpasses my expectations, I feel I must let other know. I have been going to Chiropractors on and off for the past 25 years. Dr. Reuben is the ONLY one I have stuck with through the full course of my treatment plan. He is hands down the best chiropractor I have every tried. Not only is he extremely knowledgeable about your back, spine, bones and muscles, he also has a good mix of east meets west medical training. Aside from that, Reuben and his wife Tina are great people and wonderful to work with. I'd recommend Dr Reuben and Community chiropractic to anyone who needs a dedicated chiropractor who is actually able to fix bone/spine alignment issues. read more
