If you are wealthy and have a very skinny pre teen or teen this might be an ok place for you. This place is not named accurately as no item in the entire store is " such a deal ". Owner is what brings down my rating to 2 stars. Owner is beyond words - arrogant, overbearing , abrasive and pushy. As a pro, they do have a nice selection of party dresses and clothing items as well as fun accessories for teens. My little one is a big fan of their merchandise as they do seem to stay on point with the latest trends for the tween/ young teen set. That said, as a parent, the shopping experience due to the owner's attitude and demeanor was too unbearable to ever consider returning. The store needs to be renamed "Not a Deal" since the clothing for tweens here costs the same (or maybe more) than I spend on my own clothing, but my daughter has a lot of luck shopping here. So far we've stuck to trendy tween clothing for school and play, but have a feeling we'll be there a lot in a year to buy dresses with the rest of the North Shore for bat-mitzvah season. While my daughter was trying on her new back to school wardrobe I watched the new 7th graders try on dress after dress. There doesn't seem to be a lot of options, which makes me think all the girls show up In the same dresses, but I guess that's what's preferred when you are a 12/13 year old girl. They have a lot of Northbrook high schoolers helping them out. We had a very sweet girl named Josie that helped my daughter find clothes to start 6th grade. Her yes pile was way bigger than her no pile and I almost had a heart attack when they rang us up, but she left very happy...and was all excited to put on something from her new wardrobe today. It's definitely a tough in between age when it comes to shopping for clothes, but "not a deal" has certainly nailed this market. read more

I never post a review- ever. However, this is a special circumstance. If you love your child do not subject them to this place. My lovely child retained her manners despite being bullied, disrespected, and inspected. She burst into tears on the way home. The owner would not allow us the pleasure of finding our own dresses to try on, she actually put things back on the rack after I grabbed them. She took dresses out of my hand. Hi. I never have slammed a local business and I fully support shopping local, but for the sake of your daughters' emotional well being, I can't hold back. First, I will say that Such a Deal in NB has great clothes. HOWEVER, the older woman with the washed out blonde hair is so completely rude. She is not just overbearing and snappy, but my daughter is right when she told me "everyone talks about how she fat shames". I heard it myself and my daughter is not even heavy, but this woman sure made her feel like it! She screams Loud so the entire store can here "I gave you everything that will fit. Here are some larges. That will never fit you" as she yanked something out of my hand for my daughter. Though we did find a dress we liked, my daughter left and said she would never want me to spend a dollar at that store. Be rude to me all you want. I came to Such a Deal to use a credit. I had saved my receipt which had no expiration date listed in the credit receipt. The owner of the store told me I had to use it at this time or she would no longer honor it. It was a year old credit and the owner became verbally abusive. She yelled at me and declared "You should have brought your grandchild in to the store the weekend after camp ended and before school began". I found myself having to explain to her that shoppiing was not on our list of necessary things to do at that time. In my opinion she was rude, out of place, thoughtless and had a very poor approach to a customer. She did not know my family's health status nor should she assume my grandchild was on a camp schedule. Can 0 stars be given? I reopened a yelp account just to post this!!! I had been warned about the owners personality, but took my 12 year old daughter anyway looking for a dress for upcoming parties. When we arrived, I don't believe the owner realized we were there. She was loudly talking on the phone saying that she had helped 'a family from highland park try on multiple dresses. The girl was so big that she didn't fit into the small adult sizes. The girl and her family were so disrespectful with the dresses being all over the floor and they didn't pick them up when asked. They all needed to be medicated'. After this rant, she realizes we're there and comes to ask if we need help. My daughter just lifted a dress up from the rack and she says 'oh, that will never fit you, and don't take the dresses off of the racks, ask me if you want to see something!' My daughter's really dislike this store. I do have to agree, that the owner is a bit overwhelming to a teenager. I wanted to stop in because we had a credit. My daughter found something she liked and when I went to checkout, the owner grabbed the credit slip out of my hand. I have to vent about the woman at such a deal, after not even 5 minutes in the store she was so impatient and rude to my 13 year old (who was holding back her tears), I personally would not recommend her store for any purchases. She says she outfits 99% of the north shore - well I'm proud to be the 1% she will never outfit. My experiences go back to when her store was in Northbrook (circa 90's)on Shermer, she was nasty to her staff and to customers then. Such a Deal? How about SUCH A B****! I walk in to find a gift for someone and the owner asks, "Can I help you??" I greet her with a hello. She sees me holding a few gift bags I got from another store and then raises her voice and yells, "CAN I HELP YOU?!" I give her a confused look at first cause I didn't understand why she was being so rude. Then she yells at me and said to get out and that she has a no soliciting sign and that I was trespassing. Owner was nice and friendly until I decided to hold on buying something. Her tone changed immediately and she got suddenly had an attitude. My experience was nowhere near as terrible as everyone else's but after seeing this flip switch, I have no doubt that all of the stories about her are accurate. DON'T SHOP HERE!!!! I have never written a review but after my horrible experience with the owner at Such A Deal, I felt compelled to speak out. My 12 year daughter and I have been in several times and have witnessed the owner's pushy behavior with clients, and rude treatment of employees. But we've come back because the shop does have cute trendy things(although very overpriced). My daughter's small size is very hard to shop for. My daughter found a cute jean skirt on a 50% off rack and fell in love with it. When it came time to pay we were told by the high school girl employee that it was full price. I said we found it on the 50% off rack and she said it was mistakenly put there. I said it was very misleading. I paid full price for the item since my daughter fell in love with the skirt( and we had been shopping for days for a jean skirt) The owner overheard our exchange and chimed in, loudly and on the very of being rude, that is was just a mistake. I walked over to the sale rack and found 3 more of the same identical skirts and brought them over to show her that there were 3 more skirts on the sale rack. The owner proceeded to YELL at me that it was a mistake, flapping her arms around wildly at me. Why should I have to pay for her "mistake"?? Bait and switch!!!!! I was just verbally abused in Such a Deal by the owner who is a horrible person. She treats her employees like dirt and is rude to her customers. I will never set foot in this store again. I wanted to use a gift card that my daughter received for her bday to purchase two shirts and the owner basically threw a fit that I was using a gift card and then told me I had to purchase something else so my gift card could be completed b/c she didn't want to write up another gift card that had a $2 balance. I never take the time to write negative reviews but I had a terrible experience at Such A Deal and thought people should know before going there. The owner is very rude to her employees which sets a terrible example for the young girls who come in to shop. Also, she was helping us find outfits and my daughter couldn't be honest about what she thought of the clothes or the owner would get upset. The worst was at the end when I said I had to figure what what we already had at home and which items we were going to buy she was extremely rude and said I'll just go ahead and put everything back then. She was completely unreasonable and I felt terrible that my 13 yr. old daughter had to see this experience play out. I told the owner how I felt and she clearly didn't like that and said it's never happened to her before but I know that's not true as their are numerous negative reviews about this women online. Her employees were trying to apologize to me for her behavior. Even another customer came over to me with her young daughter and said she saw what happened and it was terrible and wanted to make sure we were ok. I wish I could give this place a negative amount of stars. The owner who was in there when I went in was literally the rudest person I have ever encountered who works in a store. I tried to use a coupon for $15 off a regular priced purchase on a $20 item. She yelled at me for about 5 minutes telling me that if she let me use it on that item that she would go out of business because then everyone would do that. I told her the coupon said it was good on any regular priced item and she told me it's common sense that you have to spend at least $25 to use the coupon. It is not printed anywhere on the coupon. I happen to have quite a bit of common sense and that tells me that if you are a business owner you do everything in your power to make your customers happy. You are not rude and do not yell at them. I will literally never set foot in that place again and hope no one else will either until this woman learns how to be a decent human being towards others. She ended the encounter by kicking my mom out of the store (after I had already left because I was sick of being yelled at) and calling her an idiot.
