It would have been nice is she'd have gone and got some change and put a little smile on her face! However I came here for the food and found it's a nice place to go for lunch as the food looks and tastes good and is tucked away behind Touchwood shopping centre so it was not busy. Additionally I suppose this isn't the best platform for philosophical debate. Keep it real, Phat Sandwich!

The chicken tikka sandwich I choose is gorgeous. Cold chicken in a sandwich can often be dry, but not here. It's juicy and succulent, and the moist chutney helps it slip down. Upon talking to the girl I find out where the difference between Greedy Guts sandwiches and others may lie. Not only are all the sandwiches made on the premises fresh every day and sold that day, they also cook their own meat on site. They make their own coleslaw. They even poach their own salmon. As they also use local produce the sandwich is well worth the £3.20 I happily pay for it.

But you really cannot afford to. I made a special visit long journey from my home. It looked that good from pictures online...I was not let down. Placed on a lovely square near Asda, the front of Frais is very welcoming with it's fully windowed front ensuring you are able to get a peek into what's in store for you. On my visit, it was a glorious Easter day and me and my friend were able to enjoy the cool breeze. Frais is primarily a juice bar with a huge amount on offer. Set into three categories, Juice mixes, Keep it simple and super juices there is something for any mood you might find yourself in. Along with the protein balls which are so full of goodness really gives Frais is identity. But that's not all.. they even provide "Bulletproof coffee" I won't tell you about that so you can get a little surprise when you visit but wow! Frais mention that they are gluten free but are very subtle about it and you wouldn't even notice certain wheaty items missing from the menu. However this was a massive pull for me being wheat intolerant. What I really liked about Frais was that it is very obviously health orientated. Even having a "healthy living club" and juicing evenings. I was really impressed with this as it's what makes Frais so different to everything else out there. Foods and drinks costs where something that both myself and friend were delighted with. But is not intrusive, patronising or preachy at all. I have been to many places who do all these things unfortunately and this was a refreshing change! The menu is limited which at the time I wasn't taken with. But after having my lunch of a delicious tofu salad, I understand why. Being able to focus on a few high quality meals is much more important and there is nothing wrong with that. Salads and wraps were on offer at a ridiculously low £2.25 bearing in the mind the huge amount of combinations and choice I could have had. Soups, Salads and Sandwiches are currently on the menu and also available for take away. A fantastic lunch choice I would think. I am looking forward to seeing how this expands in the future for a relatively new business. As you go in, to the left of the service counter, you can find lots of unusual and difficult to find staple gluten free products which I encourage you to have a peek at. They sell many different types of the wonderful Bob's red mill oats along with various pastas. I can't wait to visit again and go though the juice list!

I decided to remedy that after drinking a Faculty coffee here, using the cafe as overflow seating during a particularly busy time. I was entranced by the variety and looks of the food, and have eaten lunch there three times this week to ensure that their awesomeness is consistent. I'm happy to report that Sixteen Kitchen & Bakery is one of the most delicious and affordable sandwich shops in the city centre. Sixteen is the brainchild of the owners of Faculty, and supplies the coffee shop with their delectable desserts. The shop is joined with Faculty by an open wall, so you can easily order something from one or both and sit in either location. Whereas Faculty uses a bar and two seater table arrangement, Sixteen's seating is entirely on two long tables. This is perfect for large groups or office team lunches (I've seen a lot of work being done here) but can get cramped otherwise. In addition to making desserts for Faculty, the kitchen & bakery serves breakfast and lunch until the late afternoon. I haven't made it to Piccadilly Arcade early enough for breakfast (stops at 11AM), but lunch is good enough to make it a regular mid-day stop. I've ordered the kimchi and cheddar toastie, as well as the basil, pesto, tomato, and mozzarella ciabatta, and most recently the vegemite and avocado sandwich. The kimchi is homemade of course and has a nice balance between heat and actually enjoying the flavours of it. Good luck finding kimchi that tastes this good elsewhere in Birmingham! The ciabatta was done up right and while not blowing away my tastebuds, hit all the right notes. The vegemite and avocado with tomato and mature cheddar was pretty much what you would expect. Like marmite, you either love it or hate it! All of the sandwiches are made fresh daily and packaged on the counter for hygiene. Upon selection, they are placed in a press for finishing. The menu is not set, changing every few days depending on bread (from Peel & Stone) and produce (from the Bullring Open Market). Sandwiches hover around the £4 mark and are a great value especially for the larger ones. For an extra £1 you can add salad to your meal as a side. My only complaint at this point is the lack of beverages. Sixteen makes fresh pressed juices for £3.50 and that's it. If you want anything else, you'll have to head next door to Faculty (although tap water is free). They could do with adding some flavoured/sparkling waters or other canned/bottled drinks. Overall Sixteen is a wonderful addition to the independent businesses of Piccadilly Arcade and contender for best sandwich shop in Brum.

The store does have limited seating due to its small confines. The menus changes every day and are put up on the wall behind the counter using a sharpie and ripped up sheets of paper. On this occasion is purchased a toasted sandwich which was halloumi, pesto and basil on sour dough. It tasted absolutely great, the sandwich was toasted perfectly. The correct portioning meant flavours were great and not overpowering. It cost £4 which I think is very reasonable considering quality. If your waiting for a train or just need a quick lunch sandwich I would recommend sixteen kitchen!

The place is quite hidden away, and you might miss it if you're only walking up the Coleshill High Street. But if you park in Church Hill car park, you have to walk past L'Maiz to get to the main road. And it's definitely worth stopping by. Inside, you'll be immediately greeted by the Italian owner, who'll seat you in one of three tables. Yes, the cafe only has limited space, but I think this provides a great intimacy to the whole experience. Browsing at the menu, I was absolutely astonished by the wide range of food available. From hot roasts to toasties to breakfast to pasta, everything was freshly made by the owner himself. The pizzas (all of them!) particularly looked tempting, and I loved that you could get three size choices, and even just purchase once slice for £1 if you wanted! I did exactly this because I had eaten not long before. But if had I known how delicious the margarita was going to be beforehand, I'd have definitely bought a 9" (or maybe even a 14" for £9.50 if I was feeling particularly greedy). Next time I go in, I'm definitely trying the Hot Mexican Madness. It looks, sounds and smells amazing. Surprisingly for June, it was exceptionally cold outside; so I opted for a hot chocolate to accompany the pizza. The hot drink tasted exceptional, and beats any run-of-the-mill coffee shop version that I've tried in the past. No matter what time of the day, L'Maiz can cater for you. Personally, I must return for breakfast to sample the Full English (£3.50). I eat this strong and slightly sweet cheese on its own, a cracker seemingly superfluous, and unnecessary.
