It's a big order - the size and shape of a pizza, and less like a taco. Don't mistake it for an authentic Mexican dish. Fry bread meets basic taco - but a fun comfort dish. After eating two thoroughly mediocre Indian Tacos in the past couple of days, I was excited seeing…read morethe signs advertising the Indian Taco at Custer Battlefield Trading Post Cafe as being the best in the west. As I walked in, I saw posters stating that this restaurant was recommended by Oprah herself. Very promising! Frybread with Honey ($8.99) - The frybread here is fantastic! As with most frybreads, it's a plate-sized frisbee of fried dough, although irregular in thickness and leavening. Some areas have the chew and puff like a doughnut, while other areas are almost completely hollow almost like pita bread. The frybread is crisp on outside without being overly greasy. It goes so well with the honey they provide in a squeeze bottle delivered to your table. I would eat this as-is again and again. (5/5) Indian Taco ($14.95) - Now, take the excellent frybread and use it as a base to ladle on seasoned ground beef with beans, chopped romaine lettuce, shredded cheddar cheese, diced tomato, and black olives. Instead of dousing the top with salsa (might be pico since it's quite thick and not runny at all), it's thoughtfully served in a cup on the side so you can dress the salad to your liking. I actually preferred it this way as I found the salsa to be very salty. The dish also comes with a packet of sour cream on the side. I found the beef to be ground a little too well. Instead of a traditional ground beef texture, it kind of felt like frozen burrito-style extruded beef. Not the best texture, but I guess more authentic? (4/5) One of the issues we found was with the cups and silverware - both smelled kind of musty, like they weren't properly dried. I guess just don't sniff them and you'll be fine? Overall I thoroughly enjoyed the food served at Trading Post Cafe. I definitely recommend the frybread if you're visiting Little Bighorn Bathrooms: At least one individual unisex room in the store

I understand the speaker system might be part of the problem, but it happens often enough that it's frustrating. The last time it happened, I went inside to get a refund and the staff were rude about it, acting like the mistake was somehow my fault. I wasn't looking for an argument--I just wanted my order corrected. Since that experience, I still use the drive-thru, but I don't even bother going back for refunds or corrections anymore because of how I was treated. I hope management looks into the drive-thru speaker and works on customer service when mistakes happen. Everyone makes mistakes, but how they're handled matters.

The major hurdle was finding a place to sit because people wanted to linger. Of course there were at least 6 people behind the counter and I'm sure that helped keep things moving, but it was the enthusiasm of that team that made the line and the relatively short wait bearable. This is the first shop from this chain open in Billings and with a competitor shop not too far away, they seem to have found a way to distinguish themselves. The subs are available in three sizes plus the option to forego the bread for the carb-watchers. I chose that option and was pleasantly surprised at the generous amount of food -- there was enough that I didn't miss the bread and wasn't ready for a nap after finishing it.
