Middle of the day, after lunch, but I didn't eat. I saw a…read moreman by the walk-up window, so I figured a wait of maybe three minutes. Cool, not bad for the busy nature of this place! As I get closer, on my bike, I can see that he works here, so I am first in line!! Wow, what a treat!! Lovely smile on the lady who asked me what I'd have. Just two cheeseburgers and side of fries, for me. Didn't take too, long. Service with a smile and the wish of having a good day. I bike around looking for a place to munch! I decide the brick walls at BDP! Yes!! Driving my teeth into the soft texture of bread and the bold flavor of beef, so glad I got two of them!

Some places get hyped. Some places get mythologized. And then there's Mac's Drive-Thru, which in…read moreGainesville has basically achieved burger folklore status since 1987. So yeah, expectations were not exactly low. I pulled up and kept it simple. Cheeseburger, fries, large iced tea. No need to get cute when you're dealing with a place that's been doing one thing longer than most people have had careers. Let's start with the burger, because wow. This thing absolutely delivers. Cooked to order, juicy, perfectly seasoned, and hits that sweet spot where you take a bite and immediately understand why people won't shut up about it. Five out of five, no notes, no complaints. This is the kind of burger that makes you question every overpriced, overbuilt "gourmet" burger you've ever had. This is how it's supposed to be done. And then... the fries showed up. Hot? Yes. Fresh? Seemed like it. But somehow they pulled off the impressive trick of being both hot and soggy at the same time. It's like they skipped the part where fries are supposed to have texture. Total letdown, especially sitting next to a burger that's basically winning awards in my head. The iced tea did its job. No drama there. So here's where I land. The burger alone is worth the trip. It lives up to the legend, no exaggeration. But those fries dragged the whole experience down just enough to knock it to four stars. Mac's is this close to perfection. Fix the fries, and we're not even having a conversation. Right now, it's a legendary burger with a side of "what happened here?"

Chips and salsa are always so fresh, and the prickly pear dressing on the salad was heaven! Wonderful food, wonderful service, wonderful all the way around. Our server was Brandon, who was an absolute delight! He was so energetic, so friendly, and gave great suggestions. We started with drinks. I had a skinny margarita and my husband had a Frida (top shelf margarita) and our son had a Coke. First thing we ordered was the chips and salsa. The chips were perfect, not too thin and not too thick. They came with two salsas. Both were tasty. Not sure if there is a spicier option but we will check next time. I ordered the Birria tacos. They were so delicious! So much flavor! The avocado tomatillo salsa was perfect with it. My husband ordered the Al Pastor tacos. It was very traditional Al pastor. He loved the black beans. His words were " these are the best black beans I have ever had!" Our son ordered the chorizo tacos. First, I have never seen chorizo tacos offered in a Mexican restaurant. Secondly, they were amazing! To finish, I ordered the banana pudding and our son ordered the churro sundae. Both desserts were delicious. The portions were huge! All in all I say Nopal is quite the gem. Perfect portions and dishes that are packed with flavor. And service that goes above and beyond. We can't wait to go back. We will ask for Brandon!!!

Okay, this is a hard one. Let's get this out of the way first...Magoo's was good. I'm a Cane's fan…read morebut wanted to give this a try. Honestly both do things well. I like Cane's fingers and comeback sauce better, but HM has a ton of sauce choices not just one like Cane's. In this respect, it's like Saucys, but better. They also have salads like Zaxbys, but better. And nuggets, let's not forget the nuggets. Their Texas toast probably the best in town. Blows Cane's out of the water. For fries I give the edge to Cane's. So if you only one strips and comeback sauce, Cane's wins. If you want variety, like salads and nuggets and a variety of sauces, Huey Magoo's wins. Zaxby's which used to be one of our favorites has gone downhill and is really only an option if you want wings, which the other restaurants do not have. Saucy's, unfortunately, which replaced PDQ, comes in last. So overall, I like this place. It's a bit hard to find, but if you're an old timer it's in the last location where Burritos Brothers used to be, just off Univ Ave. If you're looking for some good chicken strips, I'd give this place a try.

We love Huey Magoo's so much! The chicken tenders are always so fresh and crispy…read more I typically prefer bone-in chicken except when it comes to the tenders here. The fact that they use dark meat (chicken thighs) to make the tenders gives them a unique taste that I prefer to any other chicken place that I've tried. I love the selection of sauces here as well BUT you do have to pay for additional sauces so there's that. Their fries are perfectly seasoned and the toast isn't too salty. I like the wrap as well. I honestly have nothing bad to say about the food or service (the employees are always nice). My biggest pain point is parking. It's by the university so of course parking is terrible and hard to find. It's the only thing that keeps us from eating here at least once a week.
