It's been a while since I've been in Kells and recently this amazing little gem has popped up. From…read morethe outside it looks small, and I was concerned it wouldn't have enough seating space, but do not be fooled! There is a beautiful outdoor seating area that's been really well landscaped and put together. Lots to look at while you wait for your coffee. There is also a lovely bright converted upstairs with lots of seating and some comfortable sofas to boot. I really love the decor here. It's country style, but fresh and clean. It's a pleasure to dine here. Their menu has a really good selection of eats from sandwiches to full cooked lasagnas, you won't be left wanting. I decided to go with the Tuna Melt. Other members of my party also opted for sandwiches, the club sandwich looking particularly lovely. While I enjoyed my tuna melt, I was expecting a little better. The melt looked great on the plate (see attached picture) but looked more like mini pizzas to me. I think next time I'll be sure to ask for it as a sandwich instead. The club sandwich looked fantastic and the portions are excellent value for money. It would be a really great rival spot to the nearby Bective for evening food. I can only imagine their upstairs looking super romantic with candles and fairy lights. Why should you dine here? Support local businesses! The food is excellent value, the surroundings are wonderful and the staff are absolutely lovely. I'm looking forward to giving this place another try very very soon.

The Bare Food Cafe

Great for plant-based peeps! (4/5 Green Stars) Have been…read moregoing to Bare Food for a few years now and by brother is a regular there. If you need convincing of the bare food ethos (explained on their website) then just try their scone. It's vegan and made with dried fruit and nuts to replace the refined sugar that you'll normally encounter. It's definitely more nutritious than a regular scone and also won't result in a sugar crash. Anyway, the food and coffee at Bare Food don't disappoint and staff members are always friendly. Café seating, both inside and in the laneway, is comfy. A good place to spend some time. I'm giving Bare Food 4/5 Green Stars for social and environmental impact for the following reasons: · Lots of vegan and vegetarian options (veggie sausage, tofu can sub for chicken in most dishes, vegan pastries, vegan butter). Eating a mostly plant-based diet is the #1 thing you can do to save the planet. · Tea is from Tea Pigs (a B-Corporation, plant-based packaging, member of ethical tea partnership) and coffee is from 8thCorner (sometimes organic) · Kombucha from SynerChi, made from organic tea in Donegal. Smoothies are made fresh, to order. · Compostable cups, but I do wish they could provide ceramic and glass for customers who sit out in the lane (A strange rule for Covid, I guess, even though it's not spread by touch). · Would like to see organic food, or some info about sourcing on the menu.

My porridge was excellent-- chocolatey, but not too sweet, and I loved the hazelnut drizzle, banana and see topping (we've replicated the recipe a couple of times since coming home). If we're ever in the area, we will be back! It's a worthwhile stop in Drogheda.

It provides the simple service of sandwiches, pretty run of the mill sandwiches at that. But they are fast and the sandwiches are extremely great value. Today I got a chicken and stuffing on white, which was pre-made and ready to go from their fridge. In and out super quick. It wasn't a gourmet or artisan sandwich, but for what it was it was pretty good. I really enjoyed it too. The best part, it cost 2.80 EUR. But the standard was much higher than than the price suggests. They also have a counter down the back where you can have your sandwich made to your own liking. Highly recommended.

The eggs were light and fluffy, the cheese was soft and smoky, and the sourdough bread was chewy but also toasty. The sandwich was quite big. They do not have a website listing the hours, and Google and Yelp cannot consistently keep up with their hours as they change on a whim. Currently, the hours listed on their board says Monday-Friday 8:30AM-3:00PM, but it was not open this past Monday when I walked by. They serve breakfast from 8:30AM-10:30AM and lunch 12PM-3:00PM. We asked the employee how to pronounce the name, he stated the dh at the end is silent. Walking in, we were immediately greeted with friendly service. Since we were spankin new, he explained the menu. There's a kiosk to order, but he helped customize mine, since I'm dairy free. Woo hoo, yes! they offer dairy free cheese that melts! So I ordered a tuna with pickles, sourdough, dairy free cheese, lettuce, and seasonings per his recommendation. Hubby ordered the hambo with a side of Guinness steak flavor chips. Yum! The outside of the bread was perfectly crisp and the inside was an explosion of flavors , all good! The layer of tuna was thin ( I think a bit more of tuna) would have made it even better. But, nevertheless, every bite was a melty flavor sensation. The hambo was very good. Add a chip/drink combo for 3 Euro. Great service, tasty food!
