I'm coming back to give my 2nd review of this place almost 2 years since my last review…read more I've firmly made this place a regular stop for lunch or a sweet snack ;) Things to try include: The steak sambo- to die for! Chicken basil sandwich, Lemon harrisa chicken couscous salad. Coffee is delicious and they have a fantastic barista Vini! I'm partial to the chai lattes and choosing a variety of cakes which differ from day to day! If you're in the area, check out Urbun. It has great atmosphere, fresh food from local suppliers and they even sell handmade goodies from soaps to jams!

The setting is very chilled, spacious and modern with a few quirky, rustic touches. The coffee is good, but the brunch is even better. While all other places boast french toast on their menus, Urbun goes one step further and has "Pain Perdu" on offer!!! "What exactly is this Pain Perdu you speak of?!" Well my friends, it's only french toast USING-A-CROISSANT-INSTEAD-OF-TOAST!!!!!! And sacre bleu, it is only fabulous. The reason why I wouldn't give this place the full 5star-shebang, is that we finished off our brunch with a cheeky brownie to share (as we had spotted it immediately on arrival and couldn't resist it's seeminingly irressistably-moist exterior) and it was just such a disappointment. How they managed to make something look so delicious and wonderful, but taste so bland is beyond me. That being said though, maybe my taste buds were wiped out after the excitement of the Pain Perdu and just couldn't muster up the energy to appreciate the brownie after that..

On Sundays they have a guitar duo performing live (and not loudly, which is nice), and at other times the background music ranges from a local radio station to Van Morrison to jazz. The staff are cheerful, seem to have genuine smiles, and know that I always like a glass of water with my lunch. One of my favourite meals here is the seafood chowder; it's lightly creamy, and full of large chunks of fish and vegetables. On the side, two pieces of soda bread. Delicious! I think I've also sampled most of the items on the menu, and while there are a few that aren't really to my taste or done in a style I like, if I was an octopus with thumbs I'd give the cafe 8 thumbs up.

There's seating at a few tables out front on the sidewalk, inside on both levels, and on the back patio. The service was friendly and quick. I ordered the seafood chowder, which has mussels, salmon, and other fish in a tomato broth with various vegetables. I'm not as used to the Mediterranean version of the dish, but it's hearty and delicious. I was too full for any dessert, but an array of pies and cakes sit up at the counter for anyone with a sweet tooth.

I want to do this place justice but I have to be honest with myself... Ok, 3.5 stars? Can we do…read morethat :-) This place is a located on main street Dalkey and is yet another great store stocking all the goodness of healthy food options with allergy friendly products. This place for me though is a little confusing, I dunno, they have a little bit of everything without a lot of one thing. Let me try explain this... Their Deli counter offers pre-selected combinations for you to choose from however whats on their deli selection is very limited, there is not a great amount of options making it not overly exciting to 'create your own' sandwich or roll... Considering there are other Deli options in the village, this is a little disappointing because what they do lay on, it super nice but need to go that extra step with their meat and salad options. They specialise in pre-prepared and frozen meals all high end organic ingredients with portion sizes for the lone diner or family, with add on like potato gratin, etc however for me, they have a few regular meals and they stick to them, not a lot of variety so if I'm thinking of grabbing last minute dinner, this place doesn't jump to mind cause there's just not enough variety being mixed into their meals. When I said earlier about a little bit of everything, like they a few relish/sauces in stock but might be just one flavour so again, when I'm sitting at home saying I need a sauce this place just never gets a look in. However... Let me also just spend some time on what I do REALLY like about this place! What I think is cool is during summertime I've seen them advertise in their window island picnic deals, so you can buy your sandwich and drink or maybe pick up some pastries, meat selections, etc and have them all packed to take with you on a tour to Dalkey Island so yeah, that is a drawing point and great marketing particularly in high tourist season. They have a hot drink and pastries option which is a nice treat to take with me on coastal walk and settle down somewhere along the coast and enjoy :-) They are always super friendly in here, they connect really well with customers and I know they do catering for private functions which I imagine they do really well with.

He also ordered Avocado Toast with poached eggs on top, and it was huge! The avocado had a touch too much lemon for my liking, but it was a generous portion. My Irish Breakfast (extra sausage in place of the black and white sausage) was really good as well. My son kept on asking for more ham and sausage off my plate. The food came quickly and the staff was very nice and attentive. There is a huge underground parking lot and if you walk up in the right spot, you'll land close to their front door.

The staff are friendly and helpful and the decor is fresh, clean and modern with a warm feel to it. However, it's the food that blows the other eateries over there out of the water! I have been over there quiet a lot since it opened and each time I have tried something different. The quality and presentation of the food is exquisit and the best part is, it's so reasonably priced! The food is so fresh and the chicken is mouthwateringly delicious and tender. There is a large gluten free range of meals and desserts. The only thing I can faults that their otherwise delicious flourless brownies have nuts in them but that's it! I am definitely making the Vanilla Pod eatery a priority place to frequent!
