First off, the lovely people that run the shop always greet you with a smile, which as we all know is very important. And they serve everybody quickly and efficiently no matter how chaotic it gets. But you can ring ahead to have food ready for you when you get there (very handy for those dirty Fat Friday sandwiches!) and I'm pretty sure they do food for offices and functions etc (but don't quote me on that!). Most importantly though, the sandwiches are bloody lovely! The breakfast butties are cracking - I go for a sausage, bacon and black pudding butty with ketchup. The meat in that is great, but the black pudding is just perfect! And the lunch sandwiches are just as good. There's loads of fillings, hot and cold, and there's plenty of salad options that you get at no extra cost. My personal fave is the chinese chicken, which is nice and creamy! But they also do things like salad boxes, paninis, wraps and a cracking selection of cakey things like flapjacks and chocolate brownies. As you can probably gather, I love this place! The people are lovely and the food is amazing and reasonably priced. Get on it!! Oh and check out the picture of the Festive Feast sandwich! As someone who visited nearly every weekday for 4 years I think I'm well placed to review, and thought since I knew it so well I'd make it my first review on here. Nigel, the owner of C Thomas, offers a wide selection of classic sandwiches, salads, baked potatoes, etc, and a good variety of freshly cooked bread for your butties, pies, buns, as well as the obligatory drinks, crisps and chocolates. All the bread is freshly made each morning, and it seems like all the ingredients used are of great quality for a sandwich shop. My personal favourite sandwich is definitely the hot bacon, egg and sausage - a true, simple classic, cooked well and with great tasting ingredients. I'm also a sucker for his baked potatoes with cheese & beans, another English classic! Hot sandwiches include all the usual 'breakfast' ingredients (bacon, sausage, tomato, egg, etc), as well as Nigel's famous hot pork and hot turkey, with all the trimmings. Cold sandwich ingredients include beef, pork, turkey & ham; tuna, sweetcorn, cheese, egg mayo, corned beef & potted meat; prawns & crab sticks; and real treats chicken tikka and dripping. All can come with salady, on either a standard breadcake, french stick or large breadcake - fondly referred to by their customers as 'bin lids'! I would definitely recommend C Thomas, or "Nigels" as we all know it. The food is great, but the huge plus is the banter in the shop - Nigel is blessed with true Yorkshire sarcasm, and the banter between him, the ladies who work for him and his customers really does brighten up a dull work day. You know you're a regular when you start to get picked on! The only 'downside' I can think of are that the front of the shop doesn't look massively appealing right now, but look out for the white sign with 'C THOMAS' in red letters. It's on a corner, with parking up the road to the side, off Staniforth Road.

This is by far and away the cheapest sandwich you will get in the city and usually it's not half bad either. The shop is tiny, barely large enough to fit 8 people in at a time, so there is occasionally a line. You will be rewarded for your wait, however, with an economic and pleasing sandwich. Highlights include the Fresh mozzarella-tomato and the Chicken and corn. My only complaint is that he has mayonnaise but no mustard (how can a sandwich shop not have mustard!?). I suppose this is probably the standard in England so I shouldn't complain but if you're a fan of mustard on your sandwiches make sure to bring your own. Oh also there's nowhere to sit so be expecting to take your sandwich to go (there's some benches you can eat them at around the corner).

It's worth going for a baguette, as there's a pretty noticeable size different - if you're paying that much then you may as well get something substantial! Although the food is really tasty and made fresh to order, it's a little disappointing that nothing I've ordered so far seems to come with the option of salad. Everything I've had so far has been grilled meat with cheese - undeniably tasty, but missing something. Even things like chutney or relish have been used sparingly, so I'd expect a little extra something for that £5. I haven't yet eaten in, but everything is available for takeaway. The takeaway bags aren't big enough for the baguettes and are made of thin paper, so if you're driving back to the office with a sandwich you'll need something else to put it in, or end up with greasy seats! Minor flaws, but at these prices it can feel a bit rough. Even cheap places like Deli Chez have decent bags and the option to add salad, more sauce etc. That said, the food is really tasty and the sandwiches are well filled!

As for the coffee, well you'd have to be a tea drinker to not appreciate it. My latte was smooth and frothy and delicious all the way. Even if you are just on a flying visit it's worth trying the lovely brownie.
