Staff 'work across/through' each other. That is, if one is making up your sandwich and someone else besides you orders from another member of staff, then both are crossing each others path whilst trying to prepare the sandwhiches, unlike in say Subway were it is more of a 'conveyor belt' system, wherby your sandwich is passed along for next bit of filling to be added. This can then also cause problems at till. Tip: check out their soup. It is usually excellent and they vary what is available. *NOTE* Shuters were down when I passed this shop on 16/12/08 - not sure if it has closed down.

Unlike most other city centre locations they don't mess around with hot sandwiches or paninis etc.. They keep it simple by offering an unreal selection of high quality fresh fillings and salads. The portion sizes are ridiculous (in a good way) they pile so much in it's hard to see how they make any money! My personal fav it's their club sandwich, this easily the biggest sandwich you can buy in Belfast, it's costs just over a fiver but would easily do two people. Along side the quality produce and massive portions the service is second to none. Bob and Christine run it and their banter alone is worth a visit, a nice touch is also the fact they give you a free apple with every sandwich for a healthy desert.

That's a bold statement, isn't it? Forget about Starbucks and all that nonsense... When it comes to a good coffee, love in preparation is what matters. Love. Not firing out 3000 lattes per hour. You'll normally find me here, just either side of the lunchtime rush (there seem to be a load of solicitors nearby) enjoying a sandwich or salad (and a latté, of course) in nice, genuinely lovely surroundings. It does a lovely lunch menu. It is strange that there are not more little places like this around Belfast, little locally owned cafes and it is unfortunate that this is not so. The best meal I have ever had here has to be their B.L.T sandwich. It is one of the best sandwiches I have ever. Made on brown rye bread and made with freshly made bacon it was spectacular. Yes, you heard right. Well, it is a 'fine food' of sorts... Basically that was the only reason myself and my two siblings wandered into this cute deli - the ice cream. We had spotted a display just under the archway for Take Thyme, and a small sign had caught my brother's eye in the process. "Ohhh, Ben and Jerry's!" No questions asked...the three of us practically sprinted over to the right and corner to further investigate. Take Thyme does have a really good range of food stuffs for such a small shop, and apparently these small tubs of the delectable Ben and Jerry's for £1.99 are the latest edition. Despite the protests of "Oh my word, I'm stuffed!" and "I'm not eating any more" a mere hour before, both siblings were super eager to purchase their own little pot of Caramel Choo Choo (my sis) and Chocolate Fudge Brownie (the bro). I was happy enough to remain ice creamless. For the finer foods in life, Take Thyme is a fab little find. That apparently includes Ben and Jerry's. I happen to agree...

The food is tasty and homemadey - things like chicken and broccoli bake, chicken and ham pie, lasagne etc, all groaning with real ingredients and big lumps of meat or chicken. This is food like your momma makes, and portions like your granny serves. Servings are enormous and even I feel full after eating here. Each dish comes with a salad which translates as a few leaves and slices of tomato and a big dollop of creamy coleslaw or potato salad and/or chips. I have seen the serving staff having to literally squash the chips on to fit them on the plate. It's not just about big portions, though. The chicken pie has lovely chunky of leeks and mustard seeds for flavour. You an also get gorgeous tray bakes and made to order sandwiches to go if you're in a hurry. I've been to a couple of parties where the hosts have used Fillers as their caterers and am ashamed to say I had three helpings of dinner. I almost had no room left for wine. Almost.
