The place was hopping--classic small-town diner on a Sunday morning. Every seat was taken except the one right in front of me. The vibe was warm and lively, full of locals catching up over coffee. My waiter was friendly and on top of things: greeted me immediately, handed over the menu, and quickly returned with a large chocolate milk (always hits the spot after church). I ordered a classic combo--scrambled eggs (with an extra egg added), three sausage links, deep-fried hash brown patties (the crispy, golden McDonald's-style ones that arrived instead of the chunky home fries I was expecting), and wheat toast.
