But let's talk about the food, beginning with the off brand ketchup. Not Heinz. Rookie mistake. I'm from Philadelphia where the argument is always whose cheesesteaks do you prefer--Jim's or Pat's? If you're from Phila, you'll know exactly what I'm talking about. My guess is that the chefs here have never been to Jim's nor Pat's to experience a real Philly cheesesteak. Although you can customize it, the cheesesteak is offered with shaved American, onions and hot peppers. Authentic Philly cheesesteaks have freshly chopped onions and GREEN peppers (not hot) with Cheese Whiz--which is how I ordered mine. They were happy to accommodate. Unfortunately, the balance of the entire sandwich was off. The onions were sparse and the green peppers tasted canned, not fresh. The whiz was not really noticeable, and it was all served on a room temperature roll--not warm, not toasted. A true South Philly cheesesteak is a hearty sandwich stuffed with meat, a healthy serving of fresh sauteed vegetables and dripping with cheese. I was served an okay steak sandwich that did not remind me of a culinary experience in South Philly. There's a reason the line for Jim's goes around the block even though there are dozens of tables and that people go to Pat's in the middle of winter to order from the outdoor walk up window. We had no trouble getting seated at one of the few tables in South Philly Cheesesteaks.
