The little white building on 4th Street still wears its vintage RC Cola sign like a badge of honor, and the moment you push open the door, that familiar sizzle of burgers hitting the oil hits you like a hug from your childhood. We slid onto the stools at the old horseshoe counter, the same one I remember from when I was a kid, and watched the magic happen right in front of us. Patties kissed with bread for that impossibly soft center, fried in the shallow oil until the edges turned perfectly crisp and golden. My cheeseburger arrived "unsquoze," glistening and glorious, layered with that signature tangy sauce, crisp pickles, and onions that somehow make everything sing. One bite and I was twelve years old again--only this time I got to share it with my own family. The new owners have kept every bit of what made Dovie's legendary. Same perfect burgers. Same simple, soulful menu. Same feeling that you're exactly where you're supposed to be. My kids devoured theirs with the same wide-eyed joy I used to have, and we left with full hearts and fingers still a little greasy in the best possible way. Dovie's isn't just a burger joint. It's a living piece of Tompkinsville history that still tastes like home. If you've never been, go. If you grew up on these burgers, go back. It's every bit as wonderful as you remember.

This was my very first time here at the Dragon Garden, I must say this place is absolutely amazing. Yes, the buffet selection is quite small. The dessert section is even smaller. But what is there, the quality of the food is outstanding. As we walked up to the front door, I asked a few people outside of the buffet restaurant if the food was good here. The first person told me is was exceptional, the other said she eats there at least 4 times a week. I was sold with those good reviews. As we walked in, we were politely greeted and directed to our booth. Soft drinks are not included in the initial AYCE price. But you do get refills. Yes, they charge you for a glass water, believe it or not. We had one soft drink and one glass of water for a total of $5.95. I can't remember ever being charged for a glass of water before. But the food was delicious! Cooked to perfection. Everything we ate was cooked exceptionally well, especially for a buffet. The batter on the chicken was crisp, the shrimp was cooked as it should be. I was very impressed with the look and the taste of everything we ate. Honestly, it was absolutely stellar, I had no complaints at all. This buffet is well worth trying. We will be back, no doubt.

I was truly disappointed with the taste of my pizza. It did not live up to its billing. It's average at best and it's nothing to write home about. It's sad when you buy a loaded pie and only eat one slice. I tossed it after a few bites. It was about as good as the service. This was my very first time here. I introduced myself as a first time customer and asked for recommendations. My order taker was less than friendly. I thought I was overly friendly to be quite honest here. Minutes after my order was taken, obviously a friend came in to pick up a to-go order. They whooped up the chatter instantly. Me? I got nothing. I got treated like I wasn't even there. My apologies for not having a better review to leave. Maybe it's time to reinvent your pizza dough recipe. Maybe fresher product. I'm not sure what it was, but I could sure say I wasn't very good. I can't go back knowing how lackluster the pizza was.

Don't blink. If you do you might miss Capps BBQ, a small, hole-in-the-wall in Burkesville. We were…read moretold it was a must-eat by local legendary fishing guide Jonny Rush of Rainbow Guide Service and stopped by after catching trout on the Cumberland with him. Rest assured, this is good BBQ, even if it might look sketchy from the outside. For those looking for a nice, sit down, air conditioned spot, this isn't for you. There's one tiny table (seats two) inside and picnic benches outside, but this is what makes Capps so special. Locals enjoy the place. Value rules here. You can eat the farm for a fraction of what it would cost you at a sit down place in a major city. We couldn't believe how inexpensive it was. Meanwhile, keep in mind, your food comes in a Styrofoam container, not on fancy dishes. The menu is very small, too, but they focus on what they do well. And, do they do well. On a normal day local workers swing by here for lunch and can be seen chowing down on their food outside. I'd try their pork (it comes with BBQ sauce on it). And, remember it'll be vinegar based, but not as runny as you get east in North Carolina. We both had pork, so I can't comment on anything else. Meanwhile, their homemade desserts (saran wrapped) on the counter are very good, too! (And, be prepared. They have no sweet tea, just bottled water and Pepsi products. There's no fountain machine. Make sure to call ahead, too. They are open only certain days and odd hours. *Note: Cash Only

We ordered a buffalo chicken pizza, designer pizza, cheese sticks, garlic knots, and the baked spaghetti with 3 meatballs. All of it was fresh and hot, the cheese was amazing and just the right amount of sauce. The garlic knots are HUGE, and the cheese sticks are delicious. The marinara is a chunkier savory flavored tomato and sooooo good (I'm not a huge fan of sweet sauces with pizza). The large pizza is ENORMOUS, was not expecting that at all. Fast service and efficient staff. If we're ever back in the area we will absolutely be ordering again.
