Suburban Water sent a technician who arrived within 15 minutes. Jay was very professional, calm and friendly. He managed to fix the problem right then and there. I recently purchased a house in an area serviced by Suburban Water Systems. I called to turn service on and was told I would have to wait 5 days because they were closing early and taking a long holiday weekend. 5 days with no water because they wouldn't process my service request. 3 weeks later, my water line had a leak. Suburban Water told me I was covered and they would fix it. Sounds great, called off my plumber since they would fix it. Waited a week, no repair was ever started. Called to inquire after 5 days of hearing nothing and having to use a hose to get water. Was told there was no service ticket in the system. Then told they were no longer going to fix it and it was my responsibility. Absolutely ridiculous. I would have had it fixed from the beginning had they not told me they would fix it! For a company that is supposed to provide customer with water, for the last month they have done nothing to help me actually get water to my home. read more

Aside from the very high cost of water, Suburban does not respond to the WISH program for low income elderly. We have already sent in TWO applications, one from last year, and another this year, neither of which was responded to. Now we receive another application in the August bill! This COVID-19 Pandemic has been devastating in many ways. The cost of utilities has soared since 2020. Additionally Suburban sends an application for the WISH program, each month, which we filled out and sent, one in August 2020, and a second one in July 2021. Neither has been responded to. Now in the August bill, another WISH application is included in the bill! I'm wondering what the problem is. Just got my August 2022 bill and my water bill went up 1,800% even though I do not do any watering nor irrigation of my property. Our average water bill varies a few dollars each month, but, this bill represents almost 1 1/2 years of water usage in 1 month. And given that the actual portion of water used normally, is far lower than the service fee by more that 100%, I have to wonder why I do not have a giant sink hole on my property, based on this companies bogus bill. I am new to the area - I needed water service turned on. I was placed on a long hold and was hung up on. I then tried emailing the customer service and was responded with "do you have the deed????". It's common knowledge that four question marks in a professional email comes across rude and aggressive. I was trying to explain that I don't have the deed but have the final paperwork as the deed would take a week or so. They wanted me to notarize a letter stating that the paperwork was legitimate. Come Monday, the same associate that responded with "????" WOW. GET IT TOGETHER SUBURBAN WATER. This is for a commercial account in case you're wondering. First of all, it's terrible that you can't choose your water company because if we could.. Suburban would occupy the last space on my list. I spoke with about 4 different people there. Everyone disagreeing with the previous person. God..it was incredibly frustrating just getting our commercial building meter reduced. I was given conflicting information from rates to smallest meter size with each phone call. I would estimate it took over a dozen calls to get anything done. This added unnecessary stress to our already stressful situation of moving our entire operations from Bellflower. May Gloria - advised 5/8 is the smallest meter June Vanessa - 5/8 is smallest meter. $12.81 service charge + $2.50 cubic Laura - 3/4 is smallest. $19.21 service charge + $2.44 and tells me she's not in customer service...? I don't get it.. Which dept am I talking to then?? Laticia - same day I called Laura above Laticia advises 3/4 is smallest at $19.21 + $2.50. I request tariff/rate sheet, She sends me residential only. I request commercial again. She sends the me the photo I attached. Laura - advised my coworker she could have the field rep contact him the next day. No one called, and when I called I was told he would contact us in several days, then a week, then several days. She said I could not contact him directly when I inquired for his contact info. I waited a week, and called her. She called the field rep Phillip who told her we'd have to get a plumber to reduce the house line, we would have the water turned off, etc and she came to me and said "we can do it no problem" WITHOUT any further details. Naturally when I got the call from Phillip with all the details, I was really upset. Phillip spoke to Laura and helped us out big time. He was really the only truly helpful person I will give full credit to. When I asked him about how we waited a week and was denied his contact info he said he was waiting on engineering to get back to him and gave me his number straightaway. July I just got a call from Laura saying they indeed offer 5/8 for commercial. When I asked her why there was so many conflicting answers, she said there was no tariff available for 5/8. (Check out a form I received from Suburban listing the tariff and rate in June) which they conveniently told me that day, was not offered anymore. Field tech came out same day and when I asked him about it he said they don't offer 5/8 but is only doing it on request and that they're phasing it out. My neighbor called in a water leak and a company rep went out and determined that the leak was coming from my service line. He turned off the water and talked to me over the phone and told me what the problem was. Luckily I was able to bypass the leak temporarily while I repaired the problem. When I called to let them know I had repaired it and turned the meter back on, the young lady on the phone was very nice and I got through in no time. They were very helpful. read more

All I wanted was a Verification ID so I could set-up an online account. Instead I had an employee argue with me on why I don't need one to pay. I told her I just want to set up an online account. And she responds by yelling that I don't need one aren't you listening. Um... its for bookkeeping reason. I need to know a confirmation number. Yeah it appears after you make a payment but I could easily exit the screen and not write it down. At least, by creating an account I can manage it meaning keep track of payments. Finding it nearly impossible to reach someone or to get service. Called 6 times in a single day, with hold periods from 15-61 minutes. Twice I reached someone, only to have them hang up. First time I got through, after a 20 minute wait, the girl answering said "hello", then I said "hello", and she had already hung up. Second time I got through, I asked the girl to complete an account transfer that my nephew had already spoken to their office about. She seemed confused and said she would ask the person he spoke with, and then simply hung up. I called back again, waited on hold for 61 minutes, and had the line disconnected at 4:25pm... 5 minutes before they were supposed to close! They have the worst "customer service" representatives. They talk down to you just because you do not understand the process of turning on water. Sorry I do not work for the water company as well? Am I supposed to know these things because the "customer service" reps are sure acting like I am when they respond to me with such bratty and standoffish tones when I question a situation. I called one morning to turn on service and the woman who helped me then was nice and informed me it would take "24 hours to establish service". I thought this meant the water would be on within 24 hours. When I called back 24 hours later because it was still not on a different woman told me it would be between 8-5 today and was basically talking to me like I was a 5 year old she was punishing. They should always be telling customers 24 hours does not mean 24 hours it means sometime the next day between 8-5. When I asked to speak to a supervisior the first day about a question I had the woman put me on hold, asked the supervisor herself, and then proceeded to tell me what this person said. This is not how companies give good customer service as I have been working in the customer service industry for a long time. The people that I have spoken with both on the phone and in person when I have gone in to pay may bill have always been super nice and friendly; willing to give me a few extra days to pay. We are renting a house where water bill is free and paid by the owner. The owner is bad with keeping the bills paid so we would only find out if the water is shut off. So I have no choice but pay for it since we're the one living in that house. I called this company to pay by phone but the customer service lady cannot accept my payment via phone if I don't have the account number or the owner's last 4 digit social security number. She explained to me that they are not allowed to give account information via phone call. I'm not asking for the account number though!!! I just want to pay the freaking bill!!! She can see the account by the home address I gave her but will not accept the payment WTH!!! I would need to pay it in person, which sucks because my work is 36 miles away. They gave me letters of late notices of how they would shut off my water services because they apparently did not receive payments for which i have proof from my online banking that I did in fact pay. Not only did they cash the check but then they claim they have never received the payment. They would not accept a fax from my bank that would show that I have paid but instead, they require me to have the bank send me a check and for me to personally deliver it as show of proof.
