The price was competitive and due to how detail-oriented and communicative the estimator was, we decided to proceed with Insulwise. A three person crew arrived at our house at 9:30 AM. They worked efficiently and removed our whole house fan, installed a platform for storage, thoroughly covered up open areas in our attic, before blowing in insulation throughout the space. The team leader was very communicative and helpful in explaining their process, and I barely noticed their presence as I was working on the floor below them. They ran a test on the air leakage of the home before and after the installation and I was very impressed with the results. They did a good job cleaning up after and they were done by 3:00 PM. I highly recommend Insulwise for anyone looking to lower their AC and Heating bills.

We have yet to see any energy savings, as promised on their website. Taking weather changes into account which was about 25% colder so far, we also used about 25% more gas to heat the home at the same settings. On the plus side, the room above the garage and second floor bedroom below the attic are more comfortable and less drafty, so we 'll keep tabs and hopefully we'll see better results in the summer with a/c usage.

That being said, I was positively giddy after standing in the bedroom that the guys from Steel City sprayed for me. An unbelievable difference. The room was always cold, and it's not like it wasn't insulated. A previous owner had put 10 inches of blown in fiberglass in the ceiling and 4 inches in the walls. During my renovation I took it all out and was nervous that I was just throwing money away by replacing insulation with new insulation. It will now be the way I do it from now on. Steel City sprayed 8 inches of foam on my ceiling and 4 inches in my walls. The foam was the open cell variety. I was again worried because I had heard the closed cell was better. But, it was more expensive, and money was tight. No regrets. The day after the work I stood in a room that, despite having no heat and being closed off from the rest of the house (dust barrier), was just as warm and cozy as the rooms where the heat was on. It was completely different from the room that became blisteringly hot when the sun came out and frigidly cold when it set. In the interest of full disclosure Jon, the owner-operator of the company asked me to write this review. I'm doing it because in addition to being impressed with the change it has made to my new bedroom, Jon and his crew couldn't have been more nice and just plain fun to be around. Just straight up professionals who knew how to make the most of their day. I'm no expert on all the different foam they can spray, I can only speak for the open cell, but it certainly is worth going this route vs. the other options for insulation.

John also has donated work for a local family in need, it was a blessing the family very much needed and appreciated, the difference the spray foam made in comfort and cost of utilities was awesome. Very pleased with the follow-up. Moves my 1-star review to a 4-star review. I have a mixed review. Mincin insulated my home as part of a Columbia Gas program for reducing energy use in old homes. First, Jimmy Bickerton and his crew were fantastic. They were polite, informative, and most importantly, hard-working. That is the heart of this review: Jimmy's crew went out of their way to blow in the insulation from the outside so as to leave undisturbed the old plaster and finished walls of the interior. This meant moving ladders constantly, working in the drizzling rain, etc. Only once were they forced inside, and that was because the space between the outside wall and the interior wall was unusually thin--forcing them to put bullet-size holes inside for foam. The other crew did more damage in a single day than Jimmy did all week, or conceivably could do in a year. They persuaded my wife and me that it would be best for them to blow-in from the inside, and it was not clear to us what that meant: softball-size holes every 8 inches in our finished interior, *including* through the wood paneling. The USG patch jobs are amateurish *at best.* It will take me a month of Saturdays just to get the walls paintable, but nonetheless, there will be no matching the existing textured plaster. To top it all off, somebody moved a bed across a brand new maple floor and left a gouge I could flood and float a boat in. Absolutely no excuse for this kind of careless work. I, of course, have no recourse, so I am warning the public: If you use Mincin, request Jimmy Bickerton, and make the other lazy crews that come get a ladder off the truck. To be clear, as was confirmed by other crews, the crew that went inside did so because it was convenient for them, not because it was necessary.

Then they worked to get me on the schedule, especially touching winter, as they're all booked up. When the crew arrived, so friendly. We had covered much of our rooms with plastic, but they brought drop cloths and even more plastic. These insulators took good care to cover all the surfaces, even using painter's tape to carefully apply to the baseboards, eliminating all chance of dust! The holes are closed up so nicely and smooth, it will be so easy to paint. The house is nearly just as clean as before this major project happened in mere hours!! If your home is drafty, do yourself a favor, and schedule an estimate. Never been excited to see a utility bill before, and I'm looking forward to it reducing!!
