We were greeted warmly and escorted to a table right away. I chose the bubbly wine flight and the chicken Milanese. My husband chose the rigatoni and a German pilsner. We shared our meals because they were both so flavorful but at the end were still a little hungry and wished there was bread service available to order along with the meals or sides that we could add to our meals for a little extra $. We did notice that on the menu for the burger, you could add a side of fries for $3. Otherwise the appetizer of fries goes for $13. We ended up ordering a slice of the chocolate cake. It's a slightly dense version with ganache and was very good. Overall we were so happy with our food and drink choices and look forward to coming back. The only little disappointment was when I made the reservation, it asked if there was a celebration and I checked the box that it was a birthday celebration. There was never a "happy birthday " wished to us or any mention at all. In no way, do I want or need somebody coming out and singing happy birthday to me but it's always nice when a restaurant will actually wish a person a happy birthday or maybe give a small dessert after the meal. I specifically look for restaurants that do this when choosing where to eat for a special occasion. So will I come here again? Absolutely, it will go into the regular rotation. We spent half the meal trying to decide which dish was better and never reached a verdict. Both were outstanding. They offer an impressive wine list along with a few draft beers. One small annoyance: the beer prices weren't listed on the menu. Thankfully, our server looked up the price before I ordered, which I appreciated. We noted on our reservation that we were celebrating a special occasion, but it was never mentioned during the meal. Not a huge deal, and the staff was friendly enough. For dessert, we ordered the chocolate cake. It was delicious, although the price wasn't mentioned when it was recommended. To be fair, I didn't ask, so that's on me. Consider it a lesson learned. One of the employees informed her that The Hop Shop is owned by the same owner, and has it on tap! So we decided to take a walk over and visit. I had heard of this place tucked away behind Moo & Brew but had never visited which I now realize is a mistake, and I have been missing out. They are part bottle shop and part tap room, but more than that this place feels like a welcoming and chill neighborhood hang out. There was a live musician singing and playing guitar of both covers and some of his original tracks. There was a fluffy dog hanging out in one the chairs like he owned the place. They have several seating options from large wooden tables to soft plush sofas, even some swinging couches hanging from the ceiling. The walls are vibrant and full of murals, and the whole space just feels alternative but still approachable and not pretentious. In other words this place seemed very much at home in Plaza Midwood one of the coolest neighborhoods in Charlotte. We ended up staying far longer than originally planned just because we were loving the vibes. I can't wait to visit again.
