Run, don't walk to this incredible sandwich spot in the Gulf Place community in Santa Rosa Beach. We first ate at Sub Shack for lunch the Monday of our annual Sat-Sat beach trip in peak Summer season. We had actually planned to go the day before, at my husband's request, for Father's Day; however, this establishment is closed on Sundays, which I fully support. 100% worth. the. wait. We were traveling with 4 hungry teens from 14-18 years old, and everyone unhesitatingly agreed these were the best subs we've ever eaten. Nothing underscores this opinion like the frequency of our visits during the week: members of our group visited a total of 3 more times over the following 4 days. One morning, one teen even waited til they opened to grab a meatball sub (the "Beachball") for breakfast. Sandwiches, each thoroughly enjoyed by our party, included the aforementioned Beachball, Golden Beach Melt, Boardwalk Italiano (Italian), Grilled Chicken (hot sub), Turkey (cold sub), Ham (cold sub), and kid's Grilled Cheese. The standout feature of the subs is their white bread... omg, the bread. I'll never be satisfied with any sub roll in my life after experiencing Sub Shack's perfect vessel. It's substantially springy inside, with a softly cracking crust on the exterior. The filling-to-bread ratio is very well balanced. You don't need 8 million glugs of water to chase down the overly dominant roll size like with a lot of sub places. Other observations from those in our group below. Turkey sub (cold): "perfect balance of toppings, great bread, yummy" Beachball (hot): "One of the best sandwich I've ever had. I'm someone who doesn't love hot subs, but the beachball honestly made me fall in love again. The bread is amazing, so is the sauce, and don't even get me started on the meatballs. 10/10 would recommend" Grilled Cheese: "it was good cause it was a good light lunch that didn't make you feel stuffed" Boardwalk Italiano: " it was the best sandwich I've ever had in my life. It was a perfect blend of meat and vegetables, with nothing overpowering one item over another. Dressing was perfect, and, of course, the bread was the absolute star of the show." Being a veteran-owned local business run by some really nice folks only adds to the reasons to give this place a try. Stopped by this afternoon around 2:30 pm to grab a lunch for the family as we're on the beach nearby at Dune Allen. The staff was incredibly friendly, patient, and helpful with the menu. The shop was clean and luckily not too busy at the time I stopped by, being a really late lunch time. Great Beach side ambience. I ended up ordering a large Golden Beach Melt, a large Beachball (meatball), and a kids meatball and ham and cheese meal. Our orders were made really quickly. My brother in law raved about his Golden Beach Melt, and my son and daughter and I loved their Beach Ball. Really convenient spot for an easy and quick bite. We'll definitely be back. read more

The Ruben is really good. Marbled rye bread and very tender corned beef. Good prices for quality food. Very clean and comfortable space to eat inside or outside. They offer carry out. Tried out the sub shack recently for the first time, the menu is extensive and covers most all bases. I was torn between several sandwiches, but ended up with the Italian meatball sandwich and couldn't have been happier. I only wanted a half but decided to get a full sandwich and made two meals out of it. It was so big. The meatballs are homemade large and the sauce generous. The bread Was the perfect balance between firm enough to hold the sandwich and soft enough to eat. I'm a local, and will be back definitely. The new owner and his family are bringing a new level of sandwich experience to Santa Rosa Beach. You gotta give it a try. read more

A welcome addition to the area since its not a full blown sit down, time consuming, overpriced, medicore typical 30A dining experience. Gulf Place/beach was desperate for a solid sandwich/sub shop and Sub Shack fits in well. Kinda tucked away but worth finding. The sub rolls are really good. We had the italian hoagie and scratch made meatball sub. Both delicious. Drawback is they're missing a couple of key ingredients like tuna, banana peppers and hot pepper spread. Veteran owned is a real plus for us and service is friendly. Seek this place out. read more

Our office ordered lunch today for the first time and it was exceptional. Great menu selections and very reasonably priced for this area and a big blessing! Their online ordering system makes it easy to customize items which is nice for those with allergies. When I picked up the order, the space (although small) was very bright, fresh and clean looking. The staff (maybe the owners?) were very friendly and accommodating. Our order was perfect with nothing missing (which is sometimes an issue around here at other places). We had two salads, one sandwich and one large sub. The sub was HUGE and filled nicely. My boss loved it. Definitely a man's kind of thing! The salad presentations were amazing and so good! We loved how the lettuce was chopped and other ingredients were also chopped small. Made it so easy to mix and eat without having to cut anything. The sandwich looked amazing as well. I wish I had thought to take photos to post but didn't think about it at the time. We'll definitely order from here weekly. It was a huge hit. Be sure to give them a try! read more
