Triage is great, bloodwork was excellent, ECG, etc. I can't provide enough gratification on the service we received. Thank you!

Wait times are absolutely atrocious, docotrs don't care about whats going on all they care about is putting money in their pocket. the alberta health care system and way hosp work is an absolute joke to societ. urgent care is so unobtainable these days it is absolutely ridiculous. read more

at 80 years old, with long term tendons tears, zero mobility, vision in one eye, hearing impairment, unable to walk, ER carried me into the ambulance, delirious with agonizing pain, Dr Cao, Dr Westover decision based exclusively on my blood work was to discharge me, Dr Cao provided the Prosecutor/ Defendant style of assessment, based on my long term physical condition. THERE WAS NO PHYSICAL EXAM, in the assessment room, not one person actually took the time to do the most basic examination, at no time was my level of pain part of the discussion, in fact her notes indicated the patient was lying comfortably, REALLY how would she know that, she of course never asked, a dead person looks comfortable in the coffin, in Dr Cao's own notes Dr Cao's decision was to NOT admit me to the hospital, and be discharged immediately In her own notes Dr Cao indicated he has been "comatose" for a year, unable to move the options were: 1. go home in a cab, fully knowing that I cannot walk, unable to get into my house and then what, call 911 again, 2.the second option was that Paramedics would take me home and carry me into my house on my living room floor, where the day before I was picked off the floor by EMT again, unable to walk, no animal would be treated like that, and in my delirious state, I objected and indicated I would not leave the hospital Both Dr Cao and Dr Westover threatened me they would call security and have me physically removed from the ER and taken to a shelter, this happened more than 2 times, removal by physical force, fully knowing that I cannot stand up, or walk, this was close to midnight , I indicated that if handcuffs are required, I would be ok with that, to further add fuel to the fire both doctors described the conditions at the shelter, at least you will have a soft surface to lay on, clearly a threat to entice me to leave, an 80 year old, vision in one eye, hearing impairment, zero mobility, Dr Westover then offered the Quite Room, and I accepted, this room was an office with hardwood style floors were I lay on my stomach for the most of the night, most certainly it was better than a shelter, and I own my own home read more

Went to the Fort hospital for hysterectomy. Nurses are no where to be found and when you do call for help they seem soo put out. Had emergency that night and they told me there's no doctors at the hospital till morning. So I had to wait till 8 am! Got an infection from incompetence of the staff, and no one checked even when I said I'm sure I have one could I plz get tested. Nope. Then 8 weeks later when I had to see that same doctor- he tested and sure enough I had an infection for over 8 weeks! read more

Last year this hospital misdiagnosed my son who was 6 months old at the time with the flu when in reality it was a life threatening illness. I was telling them that it wasn't the flu and asked for other tests to be done. I was treated as an overreacting Mom. I was up all night worried upon returning home. So I phoned my ped in the AM who had me immediately come in. Her performed the tests that the hospital had refused and 30 minutes later we were sent to the Stollery and admitted immediately. We spent over a week in the Stollery (please see my Stollery review for HUGE PROPS: http://www.yelp.ca/biz/stollery-childrens-hospital-foundation-edmonton). I am so very thankful today that I listened to my intuition and didn't let the ER docs at the Sturgeon talk me into believing it was only the flu. If I had not taken my son into the Stollery he could have quickly escalated into full kidney failure. My son has required ongoing medical care for over a year now and I'm optimistic that his next exploratory procedure at the Stollery will show a full recovery. As for the Sturgeon, I can tell you that multiple medical professionals have told me that if it involves children, to ALWAYS always ALWAYS drive them to the Stollery if it's not a matter of life or limb where they will bleed out on the drive to the Stollery. I will continue to use the Sturgeon for immediate emergencies and for myself but my children will always go to the Stollery instead. So why do I give them 2 stars and not 1 star you might ask? Well, I don't think the doctors were malicious or uncaring. I just don't think they see sick infants enough to know to listen to a mother's instinct and understand that I wasn't simply overreacting. read more

Bringing someone to emergency. Some wanted water. The Information desk told me to talk to the nurse. I asked the nurse for two waters. Brought one. Asked for the other one and she got in a huff and said she was busy and walked away. Not a good start. Quite disconcerting. The actual checkin person was very caring. Once in the emergency, nurse was engaging and caring. ER doctor was great. Staff and doctors are pretty good! They ask a lot of questions to find the problem. TV...you pay extra. Parking to visit you pay extra. read more

The staff in the ER are EXTREMELY rude. Made my wife who JUST had a baby and was in SEVERE pain wait 5 HOURS before a doctor even came to see her. The staff never checked on her ONCE! So rude, so unprofessional. GO SOMEWHERE ELSE or plan on being here ALL DAY with RUDE STAFF. read more

Long wait times and many staff are uncaring. Nurse has a student give an 85 year old woman an IV and sadly she is not good at it. Excessive Ativan given to patient to keep them quiet. When patient is admitted. Patient can no longer eat due to stroke yet she is given a turkey sandwich which she cannot eat due to no ability to chew and was told no alternative meal is available due to budget problems. Many staff seem burned out. Everyone loves a nurses salary but many staff don't care about the patients. When this patient ha trouble going to restroom to urinate I mentioned this on day 1 yet they did not do ultrasound on bladder till 5 days after admission. read more

Took my son to the Sturgeon on April 6th at 1:45 PM, he was puking blood. He was attended to By Dr. Scott MacLean who sent him home at around 9:30 PM with two prescriptions. I wondered why he was not kept for observations and test. The next morning he was screaming in pain. His belly was swollen like that of a woman 9 months pregnant, he had a flat belly the day before. He was rushed by ambulance to the Leduc Hospital, they rushed him to U of A where he died died a on April 7th. Remember Dr. Scott Maclean. I am not impressed by him. I recently had elbow surgery here due to a fall. The doctor did an excellent repair and great follow up so far.

My sister was scheduled for CT scan on July 8th and it was cancelled when we arrived their without prior notice over the phone or email. We drove for 40minutes, paid the 2 hour parking, and my sister took a no pay leave from work for the procedure to be done. it was scheduled since May but they did not even email that their dye/contrast is only reserve for emergency cases. This is unacceptable! Sturgen Community Hospital, you can do better. read more

Smug uncaring staff. Zero communication or introduction to patients. Insane wait times. We've been sitting on a bed while my child coughs his way into vomiting. As a responsible parent, I'll never come back here again. As a taxpayer, I'm very disappointed. read more

Had our first baby here because of the raves we heard from other people. The nurse did not check me properly and didn't realize my baby was in the wrong position and so I had an extremely painful delivery that should have been a csection (the delivery doctor did apologize numerous times afterwards). Nurses argued in front of us more than once. Nurse took 3 lunch breaks during my 3 hours of pushing. After we had the baby we were moved to post partum and left alone without being shown how to feed, told when to feed, how to change a diaper, etc. There was no after care. They left us alone with the baby for hours without checking in. They started checking on me overnight but never checked the baby. We felt extremely left alone and were not happy with the overall service. Will deliver elsewhere if there is a next time. read more

The nursing staff were fairly exceptional for the most part but if you are not attentive to your loved one then I find that they only provide the minimum of care , especially if you are not there daily to see what is happening . The palliative care team was excellent but I was extremely dismayed and disappointed by Dr. Rajoo's lack of cooperation to incorporate the palliative Doctor's recommendations for my husband's care . I was also somewhat disappointed that Dr. Rajoo did not make any effort to meet me in person even though my husband was in his care for more than a week and I was there every day except for one . Dr. Rajoo did call me once and he was not very kind , caring or diplomatic . My husband's wish was not to pass away in hospital but to remain at home if possible and when it became apparent that this was not possible due to the extent of the ravages of the cancer which was belaboring his brain function , lungs and liver then we were hoping that he would be able to at least go into the hospice but then that required a lessening of his care and we did not want him to decline faster than he already was as it was his wish to live as long as possible . The doctor however was determined to only give him hydromorphone which my husband did not respond to very well .we begged for other medications to be tried and the palliative care team said that he should have been allowed to have it as he was in end stage care and they said that he was to have anything that he needed . My husband has been a chronic user of marijuana for the better part of his adult life . It was one of the things that helped him to keep his appetite and to sleep and to stay calmer while he was being treated for the terminal cancer . They have a tablet that is made from the THC and would have made him feel much better also barring that I had asked for a different form of the opioid they were giving him which was the hydromorphone but they were adamant that the hydromorphone was the best that they could do . I found it very hard to deal with their idea of " care " and " compassion". This entire experience has been nothing short of brutal ! I would also like to mention the fact that the food is dreadful ! It is not even edible and it is so bad that it " stinks " and makes the patients that are already having issues with their appetite have even less of an appetite . The food is provided by an outside Institutional Service Provider . Nothing is fresh or even remotely nutritious except for perhaps some of the cooked frozen vegetables . Potatoes are box powder mix and so is the gravy . The soups are about the only thing that is palatable . I think that if they did an investigation into how much of that food is actually consumed they would find that most of it winds up in the garbage ! I find it deplorable that those who are dying are being fed such unappealing and unpalatable slop ! read more

Last Friday, I was taken to Sturgeon Community Hospital after a phone call from my doctor telling me to get to an emergency room ASAP after some testing. I would not normally review a hospital, but I have to share my wonderful experience that I had here, even after receiving bad news. The staff in emerge here did everything they could to make the situation easier on me. They were always there if I needed anything (even that 100th cup of ice!), and they made sure to explain what was happening so I knew exactly what was going on. If I had any questions, someone was there with an answer or made sure to find out if they didn't. I was nervous about having to be hooked up to an IV, and getting blood work is always a nightmare for me since I have such small veins, but everyone here did the best they could to make sure I wasn't super uncomfortable. There was one lab tech who came in, and I wish I had grabbed her name, but she had the best bedside manner! Deidre (I think that was her name) was excellent for keeping me comfortable overnight and Chad was so helpful and had great information for me. All in all, for a hospital experience, I can't complain. I would definitely come back here for any future emergencies. read more

My dad 86 yrs was rushed in there by ambulance last night with breathing problems irregular heart beat and very weak. He has received some test no answers day 2 can't find a doctor or nurse to tell us anything have called left messages nobody returns them. He's needed assistance rang his bell nobody responds. I went in to find him cold trying to sleep upset with the place he wants to leave. I looked for help at nurse station one nurse who doesn't know.anything nor did she seem to care. Nobody comes around or in to talk to us. read more

It's time that the representitives stop paying for their vacation homes with our money. Force them to spend your taxes on YOU and your health care system. Trust me, if any one of THEM were treated as badly as we citizens are being treated things would change immediately. Make it happen folks, speak up! read more

I was here on Saturday night with excruciating pain. I couldn't handle the amount of pain I was in so I called Health Link and they said to go straight to the hospital which is what I did. I was scared and nervous about what was going on and even more scared when Dr. Wong examined me and said, " Ya, it's a little tender". A little? My LADY AREA WAS THE SIZE OF A GOLF BALL!!! She said she could not do anything because she's not a gynecologist. She did however find a uti in my urine which is why she gets 1 star from me for this review. So the next night I went into a different hospital where they found an infection (abcess) and I had to have surgery to remove it. Thank you Dr. Wong for the amount of pain you put me through! read more

spent the whole day so ill i could barely stand. went the emergency when i was finally able to get up long enough to walk. they started seeing people who came in well after me after i spent over 2 hours waiting. if you need a dr. i suggest you go elsewhere if you can. very uncaring hospital. read more

I lost my baby in Sturgeon's maternity ward. It's not an experience I wish on anybody, but without your staff (namely Cassie), I'm not sure I would have gotten through it. They treated me with respect and kindness like I'd never felt before. I will never forget all of you nurses that made that experience just a little easier, and I will always greatly appreciate it. Not our first adventure at Sturgeon...but as has been our experience...they were on their game in a game that's not ever easy and almost never fair. This was our second visit in two weeks and both times our medical challenge was met in a professional and friendly manner and, based on our level of need, a timely manner too. NO phones in rooms??? You cannot get a phone in your rooms from the hospital whether you pay or not. I tried calling a friend who got admitted to the hospital and asked the person who picked up the phone to transfer my call to a room.. She said they do not have phones in the rooms. Why is it everyone expects everybody to have cell phones? I do not and several friends of mine do not have them. Cheap cheap cheap hospital. They try to cut expenses and work every way they can to the detriment of the patients. read more

My surgeon is awesome. However The anesthesiologist was the worst I've ever met in my life. I didn't like the staff except an older nurse who was around me before my operation. She was like an angel. read more

The nurse celina was absolutely wonderful. Such a sweet lady. The ladies who were there doing my intake are just rude, callous and should find new jobs. Brown hair shoulder length, she was so snappy. Older lady with grey hair and glasses, I am a human. One who is in pain. You should consider being a little nicer. I'm someone's daughter. The dr was great, the X-ray techs are fantastic. My rating is in spite of the intake and registration nurses. My first impression was awful. Thank goodness everyone else has compassion. read more

We were here 3 times over 5 weeks because my son had broken his arm. We had to go through the emergency triage department each time.. it would be a much more efficient use of their staff if they would schedule a separate cast clinic for the cast check than having to get his blood pressure and temperature checked out by triage when it serves no purpose. They are still renovating, but the new emergency area waiting room is nice, they have hands free doors in most areas which I appreciate so that the germs aren't as readily shared. We had the same x-ray tech twice and she recognized my son, so he thought that was nice she remembered him.The cast tech was really good and very efficient and nice as well. The Dr didn't recall my son at the cast check appointment and wondered why the cast had been done the way it was the 1st time.. but he had told her to do it like that. Other than the wait times, which I am sure could be shortened with a better system in place, and the expense to park, the actual patient care we received was good. read more

Last week my 83 year old mother who has Alzheimer's was taken to Emergency by ambulance. She was in a very confused, scared, and agitated state. The doctors and nurses who dealt with her over the next 24 hours were wonderful and our family greatly appreciates their professionalism and kindness during a very difficult situation. read more

The paramedics who picked me up assumed that i was a drug addict because I take high levels of opiates and anti-epileptic meds to control chronic and severe pain. I was having what seemed like grand mal seizures, some of which I was aware for and some of which is was not. The paramedics told me I was not having seizures because I was too alert right after and that it was a drug reaction. They left me for hours at the sturgeon hospital before I saw a doctor who did not perform any follow up tests. At this point I just wanted to go home and did not care because I had stopped seizing and was feeling better. However I still feel awful today and I had brain surgery only a few months ago so now I am quite worried. read more

The best hospital experience I've had was here for the birth of my son. The nurses and doctor (Dr Hayden) worked with me to make my birth experience as close to my desired birth plan as possible and were kind and respectful as well as extremely helpful. Much better than any Edmonton hospital. read more

My daughter is a young adult with several disabilities who does use this emergency quite often, and yes is sometimes not really sick enough to warrant a lot of tests, recently she has been sent up to the emergency by walk-in doctors because they were worried it could be something serious, most of the nurses and doctors know her but lately they have been down right rude, one nurse asking her if the doctors have figured out what is wrong with her, insisting she should go see her doctor more, when the nurse was told the dr was the one who sent her up, she still continued to be rude and uncaring, one doctor actually walked passed my daughter who was having a seizure and leaning up against a wall in the hallway saying they would get to her when they can. The care in this facility has declined rapidly in the past couple of years, they need a refresher course on all patients deserve respect regardless if they come once or a frequent user, they have signs all over the hospital expecting them to be treated with respect, maybe they should take a cue and apply it the other way too. read more

I want to start this thing on a positive note, and say that the staff last night in emergency where absolutely wonderful. They are the only thing keeping this thing from being a one star review. However, I was absolutely appalled with the facility. It was so filthy, I could not believe it. The lobby was littered with garbage and filth all over the chairs and floor. Then once we got into the emergency triage, the room we where placed in was so unsanitary I truly wanted to vomit. It was a large private room with its own bathroom (a bathroom that still contained containers of previous patients urine, even though it was a private bathroom. How long had they been sitting there?) urine on the toilet seat, no paper towels. The floor gave me the heebie jeebies, as it was very dirty with soil and blood. Yes, blood. None of us in that room where bleeding, and yet there was blood on the floor as well as up the side of the bed. I was totally disgusted. Piled on top of an extremely uncared for and run down building. Point; staff was wonderful last night, but it is my experience that that is not generally the case, and it was a filthy mess in a place that should have the highest standards of cleanliness. I will try to avoid this hospital whenever possible in the future. read more

I went into the hospital, to get an injury looked at, i had crashed my motorcycle at high speeds. I has seen a Nurse else where, and was told to get an x-ray. So i went to the St.Albert Hospital, i waited in line, then saw a nurse. She looked at my elbow, and agreed with what the previous nurse thought, that the bone was chipped and needed to be X-Rayd. The Doctor can to where i was sitting, touched my Elbow for about 10 Seconds, then told me to go home because i was fine, I explained to him that i was in pain, that there was a piece of something floating around in my arm, and that i was advised by two Nurses that i should get an X-Ray. He then told me that he was done talking to me and walked away. Have being left hanging with no real answers, i went back to the front dest to see if i could see anther Doctor, she then told me no, that there was nothing wrong, and that i needed to leave. I was then escorted out by police, and Security. All i was looking for was a proper look at the injury to see if i was able to work, lift, and carry on my normal work pace, and to see if there was anything i could take for it. read more
