My personal interaction with stumps garage.
The Good. Ryan's dad is amazing and a very respected member of the community. Ryan himself is a genius when it comes to dyno and tuning. Ryan presents as extremely competent and responsible up front.
The Bad. 2 years ago I hired Ryan to do a performance rebuild on my LS1. Ryan promptly picked up my auto in an enclosed auto carrier, collected thousands from me, promptly pulled the motor and the vehicle sat for months and all I got were excuses. No problem but getting frustrated. Contacted ryan and we got a local tranny shop to also rebuild my tranny. Ryan then had my motor and tranny in his shop, he had the engine rebuilt and I wondered why it was just sitting for weeks more. The outside of the motor was beautifully painted but something felt very wrong with this situation. I had another shop bring a flat bed and we hauled everything off to the next shop and found that the rebuild ryan had done on the motor - found dirt inside of the motor, one part was found backwards, the engine would not crank or turn at all due to wrong parts installed and not sized right. The metal gaskets were to an older chevy 350 and were not made for a LS1 at all. I have pictures taken of all of this. Trying to get my money back from Ryan was very difficult to say the least and to date, I am still trying to get the rest.
My uncle had a timing chain changed out on his ford truck at stumps garage during this same time frame. My uncles truck's engine did not leak oil before, however, did so after stumps garage worked on it. My uncle did need to sell that truck soon after.
In the end, I ask you to question what the inside of your motor really looks like after getting work done at this shop despite what lip service you receive. The next rebuild and resto shop that had my car, engine and tranny did an amazing job and my LS1 is now the monster it was meant to be. read more
