So, me being at home and nosey, I noticed: They were affordable (she had gotten five quotes and they were the best one) They were fast (the tree was down within an hour and cleaned up with the stump gone before noon) They were well prepared (they had competent people on well-maintained machinery that operated very efficiently) They were experienced (Scott, the owner, was on site with his team and had decades of experience) So, I was impressed and went over to ask them to quote me for the 4 large (80') unhealthy pine trees that were near my house. (My kids nicknamed them "nightmare trees" with their holes and diseased limbs and vines) Now. Tree service is expensive, but based on what I had seen happening for the last couple hours, it was obvious that it would be the best thing I would spend money on this year, so I asked if they were busy in the afternoon. So one guy came over, looked over the area and the trees, and we agreed to a price, which they said they'd take a discount in cash. Cool. They ground up the stump in my back yard (they didn't have to, but it was very kind of them) They gave me the wood chips (two piles taller than our minivan) I asked if they could help with some of the branches I had piled up in the back yard (the chipper I was using was doing poorly with them) and they really went above and beyond there as well. They cleaned up/raked up everything from the work that they did in a very efficient manner. They were gone before 4pm. The kids at home thought it was a great show from inside the house. These people didn't even stop for lunch. I was really surprised. I haven't seen people operate with that level of professionalism in a while, and I strongly recommend their services to anyone who needs tree work.

Mitchell, the owner of Fowler Ground & Up, signed a contract with me to remove six trees from my…read moreproperty in Feb 2023. Due to weather circumstances, the final tree removal was postponed to the end of March. $2,000 was withheld from the total removal cost as a good faith to return. We had more bad weather and it was pushed out again to the first two weeks of April. That was understandable. However, he never showed up in April and he stopped responding to me. In addition to not removing the final tree, he also caused multiple damages to my property when removing the others that he promised to fix and never did. He also, in the contract, stated that he would come to clean up the tree logs and debris and never did that either. In the 10 months since this started, he has randomly reached out a few times, months apart, apologizing profusely and promising that he would come by "the next week to work on the situation and fix the damaged property," which includes both my and my neighbor fences, part of my roof, part of my porch steps, a torn up chain-link gate, and gate hardware for a swinging double gate (in addition to the last tree that needs to be removed). It has been 10 months of patience and none of his promised action steps have taken place. I received quotes from other contractors to complete the abandoned job and I took his company to Albany county small claims court in Nov 2023 to request the money needed (past the withheld 2k) to have the final tree removed and to cover the unresolved repairs. I won the case and there is an active judgment against his company for over $4,000 to cover those costs. Can't attach a pic of it on this website but it's posted on the google review. My neighbor is in the small claims process as well for the damages to their fence. If the small claims judgment is not paid by December 16, action will be taken against him and his company by the Albany county sheriffs dept. (or other enforcement entity) to enforce the court's judgment. I wanted to go with a smaller company because I believe in giving my money to small local businesses. However, sometimes you get burned. Unfortunately for me, this was one of those situations. Complete lack of finishing the job, lack of communication, and lack of accountability. Add that onto all the damage that was done to my property (and my neighbor's property). I can't recommend him or his company for completing your tree removal job or for repairing any damage that may be done to your property if you do hire him. I recommend looking into other companies in the area. There are others with comparable prices who will show up to complete the work properly. Good luck in your search. Hope this account of events is helpful to someone looking for tree removal services in the capital region.

Then the owner of "On a limb," didn't like my response, so the "holier than thou" person just drove off. Apparently his discussion about not wanting to damage my lawn by parking on the street, made during the estimate process, was meaningless. Since I was home, the least consideration he could have performed would have been to knock on my door and ask. I would avoid this tree service. Not only was he days late but he never contacted me to let me know he wasn't coming as promised the first time. I had to chase after him to get any info regarding a date. Obviously he doesn't write things down and depends on strictly memory, or he simply doesn't care.
