I'm a huge "treatment addict" but oddly new to the facial scene, although I work hard at home to take care of my skin DIY style (LUSH masks, oh yeah!). This is because I always thought that if I was going to throw down a hundred bucks I was going to get a massage. You know, something that feels good. But now that I'm pushing 40, I'd thought I'd give it a go and told myself I'd get a facial every month for a year and see what happens. Dang, Dana Craft is amazing! I have only gotten three facials so far and my skin has noticeably improved. I don't even need a full year to figure this out. It's magical! And the treatment DOES feel good (okay, aside from the extractions, but it's brief and I'm vain enough to withstand). Dana is a really nice person, and incredibly skilled. I enjoy chatting with her during the appointments, and I feel very relaxed and happy when I leave. And when I get home I look in the mirror and think, "Holey hell, I look good!" I just had my third or fourth hot stone massage with Joan (my first at Soothe) and I'll keep coming back. She made me feel completely comfortable, checking on the temperature of the stones and the room and how I was feeling. She even checked to see if the music was okay (the nature CD is the best). She checked to see if there were areas I wanted to work. The work on my shoulders and upper back was amazing; I didn't want it to ever stop. She is very adept at working on the places where you need it most. At one of my massages, she really worked on my calves. She's fun and funny and very good at what she does. I can't say enough good things about the experience; it was, indeed, soothing. As an update, I've actually gone had a non-hot stone massage from Joan and it, too, was amazing. I highly recommend the longer massage; it's worth the extra dollars and I left there so relaxed that I didn't even mind going to the airport and flying back to Denver and I ALWAYS mind flying back to Denver. I tryed facials in the past and all of them were aggressive and my skin was red for days and no benefit that all. Dulce has great hands and all the products that she apply really work. i received a facial from Briann McCoy. Let me just say it was the best facial I have ever got IN MY LIFE! i like a combination of relaxation and thoroughness and this is EXACTLY what i got. She prepped my face with amazing products and then went to town with extractions (which i enjoy and specifically requested.) Afterwards she gave me a wonderful massage both face and upper body.... she definitely has the magic touch! Amazing place. Super small and intimate, i don't think they do more than 2 people at a time. And when they're in the middle of a session they lock to the front door so that nothing can interrupt the experience. Yes, it is an experience! It started off a little odd because it is in the middle of a neighborhood so I was like is this REALLY it? Plus it looks like it was probably in the location of a former residence because the room I was in seriously reminded me of a bedroom. Thaaat was probably the end of the oddness. Gayle was my masseuse and she was not only very good at giving a massage, she was very knowledgeable about the human body. London is one of the warmest, most capable, dynamic people I've ever met. I've had the opportunity to partake of her skincare, waxing and massages over the last two years, and recommend all wholeheartedly. I am so in my head about my body that it's been 20 years since my last massage but the huge knots in my lower back recently forced me to admit that I needed to get over myself and get help. After finding so many positive reviews for Soothe on Yelp, I felt confident enough to make an appointment for a 45 minute massage with Joan. From the moment I walked through the door, I felt completely at ease and relaxed. Joan was great. She asked all the right questions about what I expected, what I felt I could tolerate given my condition and made sure that the enviornment (temperature, music, lighting, etc.) worked for me. She expertly varied the pressure she used and was very adept at reading my responses. After the massage, she got on the web and figured out which muscle of mine was so knotted. Yay! Yelp, don't let me down. I went here today based on the yelp reviews I read, and it was just what the doctor ordered. I'm always apprehensive about seeing a new massage therapist, especially after finding the perfect woman back in Colorado and having gone through so many disastrous failures. There's nothing worse than a horrible massage. Anyway, I booked online last night (how's that for convenience?) with Gayle who was awesome. Her bedside manners are amazing, and she's very easy to talk to in a personal and professional way. More importantly, I had maybe five minutes to describe what I wanted, and she followed through exactly as though I'd spent the whole day describing what I needed. Another raving review about Dana. To keep it short she knows her stuff and has years of experience. She caters every facial to the client and I have seen drastic results with only two visits. I have had two facials with her and both have been outstanding. I stopped using birth control back in October and not too long after this my skin began to break out. I never had adult acne and was concerned. Initially I went to my doctor, but the treatment she suggested seemed a bit aggressive. I had a combination of small breakout and large pimples (some cystic). I decided to give facials a try and although my skin is not breakout free it has improved greatly. My first session involved healing my skin because the products I used prior to my appointment were too strong for me. I had large dry and red patches around my face and Dana completely solved the problem. She gave me the proper products that left my face nice and soft. The next visit focused on my breakouts and she went to town with the extractions. I hate extractions but I appreciate them. Dana spent quite some time making sure everything was clean. So the facial itself is great but the best part is the upper back/shoulder and arm/hand massage. Dana does such a fantastic job and you leave feeling refreshed. The spa is small and cozy. Very quiet and peaceful. This is a gem in the city and I am happy to have found it. **Parking is not bad but it is worth arrive about 15mins to find it. read more

Yelpers are such good judges of character! I was in dire need of a facial, what with a giant milestone birthday around the corner and the sudden realization that, no, I am not 24 anymore. Don't bother asking how old I am, it's a state of mind. Anyways, London took my last minute call, scheduled me in the next day for a petite Joie de Vivre facial---very aptly named as it was just a slice of heaven and relaxation. She also gave me a brow touch up which made me feel great and look sharp. I knew it was a homerun when my semi-deaf, semi-blind husband even noticed a positive difference. Here's the kicker - I was so lame that I didn't have my tip money available and London simply said it was no problem...just come on back next time. Hello?? has this ever happened to you? Usually, your day spa/hairstylist/wait-person will give you the evil eye until you depart and then throw in a curse on your love life for the month. Recently I decided to treat myself to a facial and came to yelp to look for a good recommendation. I shopped around a lot and am happy to say that London at Soothe was wonderful!! Originally she had no openings for about a month and as I kept checking back on the website, I found an appointment for the following week! I loved that as I checked in, I received a form to fill out with concerns, areas of my face I wanted her to focus on and scent preferences, so she could use that scent of facial creams. I loved the citrus scent! London was very attentive, answered all my questions along the way and was even able to rid me a milia on my forehead, which I'm trilled to have gone!! The extractions she did weren't painful and my face has totally cleared up! What I appreciated most was that London was very educated about everything she was doing and was completely personable. While it was a little pricey ($85), I will definitely go back and treat myself from time to time. Definitely check Soothe out. There's a reason why Soothe has 5 stars on yelp. I've been coming to Studio Soothe for a year now and I've only received waxing services, but Natalia does a consistently amazing job! She is professional, takes her time in areas that deserve extra attention (like my brows), but is speedy when it comes to the more sensitive areas (bikini). Also, she uses the best hard wax, Berodin. I've been waxing for 10+ years so trust me, this wax and this studio are the best! I'm offered hot tea or water every time I arrive for an appointment, the atmosphere is fresh and relaxing with potted plants and crystals all over the reception area, and the studio itself is sparkling clean. Bokhara rock!!! I booked a same day 60 minute massage a few days ago. I just ran a marathon and my muscles needed a lot of attention. First off, Soothe is within walking distance for me. The place itself is super clean and welcoming. They had me sold when I was offered a cup of tea. I'm a tea addict!! When filling out the questionnaire, I was able to obviously pick the pressure but also the temperature of the room and the scented oils I liked. Bokhara took the time to find out what issues I was having and to explain what she was going to do. The room was small but beautiful. Dimly lit with soothing scents and warm colors. The massage was wonderful. Bokhara is very petite but she's an expert. I had been having issues with my left side and she worked out all of the kinks. Afterwards, I felt more mobile and rejuvenated. I have received a few massages throughout the city and this place is the best. They have won my business!!! read more

I've only had a couple of massages at Soothe, mostly because it's expensive, but I won't go anywhere else. I had Briann for my first massage, and it was the most amazing massage I have ever had. It's obvious Briann is serious about her craft, and she has the skills and knowledge to really make a difference in the state of your physical body. I imagine the rest of the staff are just as good, but I'll never know unless Briann leaves. The bad reviews on yelp usually talk about the difficulty scheduling and getting in contact with the studio, and I understand that, but it's worth it. While they may not be overly accommodating during the booking process, when you arrive for your appointment, you are catered to completely. Soothe is totally worth the effort to book and the expense. A disappointing massage is a real bummer. You won't find that here. read more

Recently I went to Soothe for a facial. I saw an ad for a 10% discount during the month of March, so I decided to take advantage. Dana was great, and gentle on my skin. She was also easy to talk to; I've had some estheticians who were a little standoffish, or even worse, go on and on about their personal lives, but Dana was great. I think my skin is in much better shape in this climate so there wasn't a whole lot of "repair" going on, but my skin did look lovely when I left. One thing I really liked was that you're asked to fill out a profile of your skin, what products you use, etc. before your treatment. This really cuts down on the questions, and no one tried to sell me anything, which was a refreshing change. Note to new people: Don't arrive early, arrive at your scheduled appointment time. The studio may be locked until it's time for you to be there, and you might get stuck waiting outside for a bit! read more

I followed Dana from Dermalounge, she is extraordinary with her craft and underpriced in my opinion, the cost is nice and affordable but she is worth more. You'll see. I have thick, congested skin with large pores that is prone to breakouts -not the best gene I could've inherited. I have struggled with my skin since high school and Dana has taken my problem skin and brought it as close to picture perfect as my skin could get. She is wonder woman with extractions, nothing gets by her if you can take it. Dana is the girl next door with a competent touch, extensive knowledge in pairing products with skin types, even if they aren't sold at Soothe and takes extra time to pamper her clients. She won't leave the room, instead she will stay with you to massage you, talk with you, whatever you need most in that moment. I have been going to London for several years now for massage and skin care and I just have to say she rocks! She does excellent work and is always personable and fun to chat with. She's very attentive to my needs and tailors her care to whatever is going on with me at that particular moment. yes, she is that good. I have only had facials with two other people before, but London definitely gave me the most enjoyable facial. Best facial I've ever had. I've got really sensitive skin and there's usually a recovery period for me, but her treatment was the most carefully crafted and executed. It's rare to find someone so committed to the success of their business via each individual session... what the hell does that mean? Not to be cliche, but my experience was very "soothing." That's really the best word to describe it. Ellen took her time, addressed my main concerns (I'll spare you all the details - but happy to share with the ladies offline if needed) and gave me some great advice on home techniques to make the results last. Given it's a San Francisco spa, the prices are bearable and the overall ambiance (scents, music, parlor, etc.) was comfortable and well, sorry, soothing. I've started seeing Ellen every month. I inherited bad skin. There have been times I've been embarrassed to go out in daylight, but not now! I feel great after my facials with her & keep feeling great right up until the next appointment. She is very conscientious about making sure I am comfortable with everything & tells me when something will be tingly or cold. I like being informed. The neck & shoulder massage is always delightful, and I highly recommend the hot rocks! For those of you concerned about extractions, you have nothing to fear with Ellen. She is very thorough without being brutal - I don't leave red or bruised in the slightest but my pores are clean, clean clean! What initially drew me to her was that she is so discerning about her products. I know whatever she's putting on me is good stuff made with good ingredients, all or mostly vegan and it all smells great, too! She gave me samples & was not AT ALL pushy about her products. I ended up buying them and will continue to trust her judgement as far as products go. Ellen's also waxed my legs. You can trust that Ellen will do the best that can be done with your little follicles & not leave those annoying little fuzzy patches. I feel completely comfortable with Ellen & enjoy chatting it up with her. In fact I feel weird writing this section because it feels like I'm reviewing a friend for the whole internet to read. Anyway, I'm so glad London asked her to help us out on the west side of the Bay. And my Soothe blurb... I really like Soothe as a spa. The practitioners obviously enjoy what they do (& are damn good at it) & get along well - no crazy drama here - and I feel like I'm part of a community, not just a business. It's easy to get to by Muni. Soothe is small and that's great for those of us who like such personalized service & don't like a bunch of other clients sitting around with them. I'm always offered tea, water and something to nibble on. The studio, sheets, tables, & restroom look, feel and smell fresh & clean. I've been finicky but they've always been very accommodating. I've gone in and gotten a few massages from Janet, who is absolutely spectacular. Every time I walk out after a massage, I feel incredibly refreshed, relaxed, and inspired. I have multiple friends who have gotten facials from London, and they sing her praises. I mean they SING her praises. I think the thing that makes Soothe work so well is that they're incredibly down-to-earth and responsive towards their customers. Okay, now it's my turn. After all the fantastic yelp about London, I decided to give her a try. I booked my appointment about 2 months in advance hoping that I'll have a "regular" person to take care of my skincare department. I've met London and instantly was impressed by the friendliness and aura--she is down to earth and very helpful. The room was tiny but clean and comfortable. Just a few comments. Her facial: I think it was a bit rough and hard. A little bit aggressive in using her hands for some face massage action. It hurts when she was really pushing a tad too hard on the extractions. She was holding a tissue during the extractions, I felt like I have to find some space to breathe because the tissue was pressed down on my nose! An extra awareness around that would be great! Parking was free and easy! (at least on a Wednesday afternoon). London was very considerate in terms of payment options. I only have amex and she was flexible enough to take a check. Dana Craft is by far the best! Not only does Dana know her "craft" (I get facials and waxes from her), she is fun, pleasant, and very down-to-earth. I have been meaning to write this review for her for awhile now. Soothe has such a serene and relaxing feel to it and I just love that it is in my neighborhood. (Parking is usually not an issue, if you need to drive, but the #43 also goes right by it.) Dana uses all natural products and your skin comes out feeling amazing. I turned 41 this past year and nobody ever believes me that I will soon be 42, as my wrinkles are non-existent. My skin did not look this good in my 20's. This past year I had a MOHS surgery to remove a skin cancer tumor above my upper lip (those days sitting in the sun are over). My plastic surgeon said he was extremely impressed with the elasticity and wrinkle-less appearance of my skin...I attribute it to Dana's once-a-month facials and the products I use...Dana is so thorough and gives me tips to keep my skin soft and dewy. It was such a wonderful experience, she walked me through all my skin issues and was incredibly knowledgeable on the topic. I had 2 massages from Joan, and they were both amazing! She had the most nurturing touch. She was very warm and caring, and it showed through her massage. I really felt that she was attuned to what I needed. Her pressure was just right in all the tender areas. She knew how to work with the body and sensed all my tensions and blockages. I joined Yelp just so I could write a fantastic review for the folks at Soothe. I had my first massage with Mandie in July, and decided shortly thereafter to book regular monthly appts w/ her until at least the end of the year (I leave SF to get married and start a sabbatical at the end of '08). Why? Because I've had PLENTY of experience w/ massage therapists here (@ NHI, Kabuki, my gym, etc.), and Mandie is one of only two therapists to ever be able to really effectively address my upper-back issues. Not only is she friendly; not only did she provide a super-personalized-relaxing massage; she went above and beyond by taking the time to diagnose what might be the problem, and to dispense educated, professional advice which, since then, has helped my back feel 10 years younger! I completely trust her, and am recommending her and Soothe (the best little massage joint in the whole city, I'm convinced) to all my friends, co-workers, and Yelpers-- even though I'm afraid it'll make it a lot tougher to book appts (did I mention you can do this ON-LINE?!) after everyone learns what awesome treasures Soothe and its staff are. read more

I was referred to Janet Dehart by a friend and she is AMAZING!!! I have been going to her for a while now and I am never disappointed. I had a super stressful week and just needed to relax and release tension in my body. She has the magic touch. After her massages I feet at peace and like I can breathe again.
