The Gallery is an exciting place that contains Bill's art library of books and tastefully displayed art of not only his works, but so many other talented artists. The paintings change frequently so every visit may be a different experience. Bill and his wife Linda are helping to put Caledonia on the map as an art destination. Their first community art show last fall helped to showcase the many talents of local artists. In April, the next community show will bring together area photographers. Awesome exhibits, a great gift shop (really, really great gift shot), great…read morelight (you could just go in and sit and relax for hours), and right in the middle of cute Clifton Springs! I have been to 3 or 4 exhibits here in the past year (photography, watercolor, ceramics), and have been wowed by every one. They showcase a great variety of mediums, and there are usually multiple exhibits on display at a time, upstairs and down. They also have an artist in residence, and on our latest visit, we were able to meet him and get a first-hand introduction to his present project, which was really fascinating. I love to visit the gallery as part of an afternoon outing. Usually we end up spending an hour or so in the gallery appreciating all the exhibits, then we go across the street to Warfield's for lunch or dinner. Warfield's has great food, a focus on local beer and wine, and a changing, seasonal menu. It's a great way to spend an afternoon. The current exhibit featured in the downstairs gallery is of alternative photography and is definitely a must-see. As a photographer who practices several alternative styles (wet plate collodion, kallitypes, palladium printing, cyanotypes, tin types, etc) I was blown away. The subject matter, size of the pieces, different styles from photo gravure to cyanotypes to tin types, all of it is amazing. And coming up on April 1st, one of the featured artists (tin type master and alternative photography innovator John Coffer!) will have a free workshop, which is by reservation - so go see the show and sign up!

We came here to see Peter Pincus' ceramics show. The way they had the place laid out was ideal for perusing and each piece was better than the next. They get a cool mix of artists in this space so it's worth a stop if you're in the area or on your way back to Rochester following a few winery stops. They also have space upstairs, which features smaller pieces - lots of drawings and paintings hanging on the walls. On the first floor they have a very small store with some random supplies, books, knick knacks and gifts made by local artists including some jewelry on display. Whether or not this is something they do, it's a cool space for an event. I think they plan to host classes in the future which would be a nice addition.

The rooftop has solar panels- there will be food and drink up there once the weather warms up. 2nd floor has a cycling/spin room that has bikes that generate electricity and show how much you are generating. There are 2 wind turbines right behind the building. The plan is to have the entire building operate on alternative / renewable energy sources. There is an atrium and skylight in the center of the building with a grow wall with plants. Local artists' work adorns the walls. Plenty more to say and see here- come check it out!

One of our group has a custom hand built vehicle from the 1970s (a project/development car that never came to be) and the local art master (lol, you know what I mean) did some work of it. Full disclosure, we didn't actually buy anything- but this place was great, and they deserve a good review, and some photos of the place. (Also, they weren't even on Yelp before we got there!)

This Amish-owned general store is a real convenience, out in the middle-of-nowhere-Orleans-county…read morearea. It is a general store in every sense of that concept--they generally have a little bit of everything. Absolutely no food or beverages, not even gum or a soda case. But you'll find a bit of everything else, including ... ** Lots of fabrics, notions, and sewing supplies; bolts of fabric are cut-to-size for whatever length you need ** Cards, stationary, and a small assortment of books (mostly religious) ** Decorative glassware and knick-knacks ** General kitchen items (cookware, utensils, canning supplies) ** Grill and picnic supplies ** A few small electrics, like fans and light strings ** Small clothing section with mostly knits, sweats, and Amish hats ** Candles and candle holders ** Many natural soaps, lotions, and supplements ** Cleaning supplies and household paper products ** Garden and outdoor supplies, and some tools ** Toys and games ** Office supplies ... but definitely not limited to just that, you'll surely find more. Prices are very fair. I needed a couple basic plastic mixing bowls, and grabbed them here for $1.10 a piece. I also got some fly catcher strips for 5/$1, and a fork/whisk hybrid called a Fiskie for about three bucks. I'm eyeing a nice Chinese Checkers metal tin set, that was about $11. Next time, it will be mine! Attached to this same building is Lake Breeze Bicycle, a small bicycle shop in the basement of the general store, with its own separate entrance out back. I'll write a review for that portion of the business separately, but as a sneak-peek, it's a handy, well-priced store too. During COVID times, all other customers were masked and doing our best to stay distanced in the small store. The Amish women I've seen working at the register and fabric cutting area have been masked, too. It appreciate, even way out here in the sticks, folks still doing their part to help end this pandemic. If you find yourself in this part of Orleans county, and either want to browse for nothing in particular, or look for something in particular, chances are you may find it here at J C Miller General Store. And it will likely be a good deal!
