It has a great…read moregroup of local artists, entrepreneurs, and one of the hidden gems of Rochester, the local military museum. I stumbled across it during one of their 2 (I think) annual open houses (which I believe are on a First Friday with extra hours). The military museum is awesome, the guys who run it are awesome, and they have awesome stories. Every time I go in there I talk with them for a while and hear more and more stories of where all the materials in there came from. The different galleries and spaces are excellent too. So many talented people and a great place to go get gifts for any reason. Its not just art, there are so many different things that are made in there from clothes to crafts to...well...you name it. Definitely one of the places that more people in the city should check out.

She has been in the pottery business for many years and is even the president of the Independent Potters Association of Central NY! Her works feature beautiful shades of earthen tones, expertly glazed, and idiosyncratic artistic carvings. Like any artist, she rotates through different styles and creations seasonally. Her top sellers include air plant planters, mugs, earring holders, and small bowls. Check out the photos below! She accepts appointments to come visit due to social distancing but most things can be purchased on Etsy to be shipped to the door of friends and loved ones. Her works are high quality and she is always striving for excellence. My favorite has been her midnight collection but I just enjoy drinking out of the beautifully colored mugs. It's amazing what hidden gems are tucked away in Rochester. I would have never known about this side street gallery had it not been for the invite I received to an event there. It's a great venue for a cocktail party - there are two rooms and could comfortably fit at least 50 people. There's a projection screen too if need be. If not for a party, you're welcome to visit the gallery during open hours. There was some impressive work displayed when I visited. What a great opportunity for the RIT students to be able to feature their hard work to the local community in the Neighborhood of the Arts. Parking can be a challenge if you don't land a spot on the College Ave. Village Gate parking lot is the next best spot, but you'll have to walk a bit to get there.

They also have some apartments and a few other shops and stores I'm not as familiar with. Eclectic. East Main Clay has a nice assortment of ceramic items, including garden gnomes (& other items) that you can build a pole of. Funky tea pots, mugs, plates, and more. Hodaka Pottery on the 4th floor has lovely Japanese themed ceramics. The Hungerford Bldg had First Friday (of the month after 5) and Second Saturday days events where most of the studios and ships are open for business. Chime check them out, particularly as the holiday gift giving season iof here. Support local in the best sense of the word. The Community Design Center and Reconnect Rochester/Rochester Cycling Alliance address both noon profits dedicated to making Rochester and it's infrastructure better for ALL of her residents, regardless of their income.
