I scheduled a headshot session because I needed a new photo for work and LinkedIn. My appointment with Nick was awesome overall! First, prior to the scheduled shoot he texted to confirm I had the correct directions which I thought was helpful. Once there I had time to touch up and he explained how the session would run. Wow I just had a really great experience for my ERAS/fellowship headshot Photoshoot with Nick. This guy is incredible, and you can tell he's been doing it for a long time. Through his experience with residency photographs, he poses you and gives you the tips on how to look your best. He took me through a series of shots, first without my glasses, then showed me the frames. Once I found a position/smile I liked, we took a few more without my glasses. Then we put my glasses on and took a few more. At the end I ended up with 62 frames, most of which were great for ERAS. He offered retouching for $25, and resizing for AAMC platforms, which I didn't even end up needing because the photos were high quality to begin with. I'm extremely happy with my results and will recommend that anyone looking for this type of professional headshot seek out Studio Redleaf and Nick, be it for Med school, residency, fellowship, or even a professional shot for a website or LinkedIn. 13/10 very satisfied. read more

I went there for a professional head shot and had a groupon. It came out to be about 92 bucks without retouching for about a half hour session with one outfit. Here's my ratings breakdown. Overall process: ease of booking an appointment, reminders, response time: 5 stars Session: 4 stars. Nick was friendly and gave clear direction and great to work with. He did take a phone call during my session which was not very professional but I'll cut him some slack for this one as a small business who's trying to juggle multiple things. Location: 3 start: It's really easy to find. But my Lyft driver dropped me off at the 1st floor of the building which was very confusing. If you go there just make sure to use the 18th st. entrance. After photo shoot: 3 stars. I have mixed feelings about this. He sent the images right away which is great. But it was basically all the photos that he took. There were a few ones where I was blinking etc. As a professional I would expect that you'd remove those so it's easier for the client to sift through. Understand it's a little extra time but it should be part of his process to sift through it and remove the ones that cannot be used. Retouching: 2 stars. I picked an image for re-touching. I needed it pretty quickly and he was very accommodating and I got it back pretty quickly. However I noticed that there was one spot he missed close to my hair line and upon close inspection it looks like 2 skin tones now. If I did that on photo shop that's totally fine. But from a professional I was expecting something better. Yes, I could've reached out to him again and asked him to fix it. But I was already late with my images (this had nothing to do with him, I was out of town for 3 weeks and had schedule issues). This was not part of the package and 25 dollars extra. So to me it was not worth it. Also the groupon really was not a good deal. His normal charge is basically the same based on the conversation I overheard on the phone between him and another client. I'm not an expert in photographers as this is the first time I worked with one. My experience was pleasant overall. But I did find a better value on groupon later with 3 outfits and retouching included for a little less than Nick's price. For me it doesn't make that much of a difference since I only needed one look for a head shot, but if you're looking for more variety then it probably is worth it to do more research. Update 8/28/17: I received a long email from Nick because he didn't like it that I only gave him 3 stars. I wasn't going to get into that and was too busy to respond anyway. But to my surprise I just noticed in my credit card statement that there was a refund of $25 for the re-touching. That was unexpected since I didn't even request a refund. My wife bought a package for me to have a few headshots taken. I normally wouldn't go for professionally done photos, but considering I couldn't post outdated unprofessional pics, I gave into my wife's suggestion to try this studio. I have to admit from the beginning Nick (owner/operator) was really personable and professional. I was impressed by the studio itself, because it did in fact look like a straight up professional, contemporary, studio and NOT some quasi-living room which was turned into a part-time business. Nick was hospitable and offered my wife and I complimentary water. It was San Pellegrino sparkling water, so you know he spent some decent coin to impress by not opting to buy that cheap Ice Mountain crap. : ) He's a got a great waiting area which is spacious, clean, and definitely not cluttered, so anyone just waiting around feels quite comfortable. The studio itself is an impressive setup of high end photography equipment. Although I am not a photographer by any means, I do have several friends who work for local marketing firms that own high end cameras and all the accessories that are used in the industry, so I have somewhat of an idea of what an amateur part-time photographer would be using as opposed to someone who does this as his main source of income. Nick definitely is using professional grade equipment and it's evident when you walk into the main studio. Nick demeanor is candid and he will explain every single aspect of what he is doing and more importantly WHY he's doing it. He is very fast and efficient, but you never feel rushed. You have the ability to interact with him and he's able to give detailed explanations as to why or why not a particular suggestion will work or not. Nick is an extraordinary photographer who provides unparalleled customer service. As someone who has never had a professional photo shoot, I expected the experience to be slightly daunting. This was not the case. He made the experience comfortable, effortless, and even enjoyable. Scheduling is incredibly easy with his well built website. The location is in South Loop and has free parking. Instructions are well laid out via email and he he was easily available via phone for other questions. On arrival he had a dressing room area to freshen up. He began by getting a sense of what I wanted and then he provided an overview of the shoot format. He started by taking a series of photos in multiple different poses and angles. He then reviewed them with me, had me select my favorite ones, and he gave his professional opinion on which ones looked best. We then focused on the best specific poses and angles. He was very patient throughout, helping to guide me in order to get the best photo. After completing he made sure I was happy with the photos and provided an opportunity to take more -- which was not needed. By the time I got home photos were already in my inbox. I was able to select my favorites and he then did a magazine quality touch up on those. I cannot recommend Studio RedLeaf enough! First and foremost, Nick was so careful with the pandemic. He really takes COVID-19 safety precautions seriously - he maintained 6 feet of distance, wore a mask the entire time, and sanitized his hands and my hands multiple times throughout the session.
